Texas to West Virginia Movers
West Virginia is closer to Texas than most of the East: about 1,030 road miles from Fort Worth to Huntington and 1,080 to Charleston. The roads there are a different story, with mountains, steep driveways and winding two-lanes. Condor Moving Systems has moved Texas households to other states since 2003, using our own trucks and our own crews. We pick up anywhere in Texas and deliver to Charleston, Huntington, Morgantown, Parkersburg, Wheeling, Beckley and the Eastern Panhandle.

- Gap between homes: covered by storage in transit, held at our Fort Worth or Houston location.

The Road From Texas
Charleston and Huntington loads usually leave Dallas-Fort Worth on I-30 to Little Rock and I-40 to Nashville, then head northeast through Kentucky and pick up I-64 into the Kanawha Valley. The Eastern Panhandle around Martinsburg is reached on I-81. Morgantown and Wheeling are often reached through Ohio and I-70 or I-79. Beckley sits on the West Virginia Turnpike, the toll road between Charleston and Princeton. Houston departures follow I-10 and I-12 east before turning north.

West Virginia Lanes From Texas
Dallas to Charleston is about 1,050 miles; Huntington is about 1,000. Houston is about 1,165 miles from Charleston. Austin and San Antonio run about 1,245 and 1,320. Morgantown, about 1,235 miles from Fort Worth, is usually reached on I-79 north from Charleston. Included in Every West Virginia Move
- Furniture prep. The crew disassembles what has to come apart in your Texas house.
- Padding. Every piece of furniture is blanket-wrapped for the trip.
- Inventory. Each item gets a numbered tag, and you sign the inventory list before departure.
- Delivery and setup. Items go into the rooms you name, and anything we took apart gets reassembled.
- A consultant of your own, start to finish.
- Basic coverage. Released value protection pays 60 cents per pound per article; it is required by federal rules and is not insurance. Full value replacement is available through Baker International, not from Condor.
Packing is extra on every move. Pick a full pack, a partial pack for breakables, or pack it all yourself.
Hills, Hollows and Shuttle Trucks
West Virginia is the most mountainous state east of the Rockies, and plenty of homes sit up steep driveways, along narrow hollows or on roads too tight for a full-length trailer. In those cases, we transfer the shipment to a smaller truck and make several trips. Shuttle service is charged in addition to your estimate and starts at $450. Show the road and driveway on your video survey so we know in advance.
Winter adds to the challenge: snow and ice on mountain roads can make a steep drive unsafe. If you're moving between December and March, keep the drive clear and allow some flexibility.
Trusted by Texas Families Since 2003
Punctual, good and professional. Condor Moving System is my go-to moving guys now. Fairly priced for the level of professional moving service they provide to their customers. They were very good in communication to me and among themselves. I have had many bad experiences with multiple movers before it. Condor is the first ever company that I found nobody to complain about, which is maybe a pretty rare thing to say about relocators.
Movers did a great moving job even though it was a not smooth and it's a very long job. Best value for the money we spend. They stayed professional and were kind throughout the move process. They recognized my items and if I needed to change the things, they did it for me rapidly. Very friendly teamwork. Will surly use them again!
These movers did a best job even though it was a tough and time taking job. Best value for the money it cost. Stayed professional and were helpful throughout the day of move. Honored my goods and if I required things changed they did it for me in little time. Very coordinated teamwork. Will definitely use them again for coming movers!
West Virginia Move Pricing
Condor prices every long-distance move by the cubic foot. The survey measures how much truck space your household needs, and the per-cubic-foot rate already covers the haul from Texas to West Virginia; distance isn't billed separately. Long-distance moves start at $1,200.
Because size drives the total, these help most:
- West Virginia homes often have steep steps and split levels; measure large pieces against stairways.
- Sell heavy pieces that won't suit a hillside home.
- Pack the easy rooms yourself and leave breakables to the crew.
Other lines that can appear: packing and materials, crating, stairs or elevators, a shuttle truck, storage in transit, extra coverage and a guaranteed delivery date.
A binding number
The estimate you sign is binding. Add or drop items after the survey and the foreman writes up the change on moving day, before the crew loads, for you to approve first. There is no surprise total after delivery.
The survey
We quote from a video survey on Zoom, from a phone call with your list of furniture and boxes (you sign a written survey waiver to make a phone quote binding), or, inside the Dallas-Fort Worth area only, from an in-person visit.
Universities, Hospitals and Utilities
West Virginia University in Morgantown and Marshall University in Huntington hire faculty, staff and medical professionals from out of state; both have busy move-in weeks in August, and WVU home football Saturdays fill Morgantown. Hospital systems in Charleston and Morgantown also bring in staff year-round. We do PPM moves (service member arranges, government reimburses), retiree moves and government-arranged shipments. If your orders call for certified weight tickets, we provide them; that's the only kind of move we weigh.
Appalachian Power serves Charleston, Huntington and southern West Virginia; Mon Power serves Morgantown and much of the north; and Potomac Edison serves the Eastern Panhandle.
The Eastern Panhandle
Martinsburg, Charles Town and Shepherdstown are within commuting distance of Washington, D.C., and many residents ride MARC trains into the city. That area has grown quickly, with new subdivisions that may have HOA rules and streets not yet on maps. It also has easier access for a large truck from I-81 than much of the rest of the state.
Getting Ready for a West Virginia Delivery
Before delivery day, walk the route from the road to your door. Note any low branches, tight turns, narrow bridges, gravel or soft shoulders, and send photos to your consultant. If your new home is in a hollow outside town, confirm that a cell signal is available, or give the crew a landline or a neighbor's number. In towns like Charleston and Wheeling, older homes on hillsides often have long outdoor stairways; tell us how many steps there are.
Spring rains can flood creeks and low roads in parts of the state. Check road conditions before your delivery date.
Planning Your Move
Reach our office Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM CT. We ask for at least two weeks between booking and pickup on a West Virginia move. For relocations paid by an employer, we can bill the company or its relocation management firm directly.
Condor Moving Systems is Woman-Owned and operates under USDOT 1126171, MC-458180 and TxDMV 006041428C.
West Virginia Communities
Charleston, the state capital, has older neighborhoods on the hills above the Kanawha River and newer homes in suburbs like Cross Lanes and Hurricane, just west along I-64. Huntington, home to Marshall, has a historic downtown and established neighborhoods near Ritter Park. Morgantown has grown with WVU and its hospital system, and suburbs like Cheat Lake have newer homes on steep lots.
The Eastern Panhandle, around Martinsburg and Charles Town, is the fastest-growing part of the state, with commuters to Northern Virginia, Maryland and Washington. Beckley and the New River Gorge area attract people who want outdoor recreation, and Fayetteville has become a small tourism hub since New River Gorge became a national park in 2020. Wheeling and Parkersburg are smaller river cities with older housing. Wherever you land, plan for hills: few West Virginia homes sit on flat ground.

West Virginia asks new residents to title and register their vehicles within 30 days. If you title within that window, the state's 6% sales tax on the vehicle is waived. You'll need insurance from a company licensed in West Virginia. To transfer your license, you'll take a vision screening, complete a short alcohol awareness course and surrender your Texas license. See the West Virginia DMV moving page.
West Virginia has a state income tax. Register to vote when you get your license, and set up utilities before the truck arrives.

Texas to West Virginia FAQ
What is the delivery window to West Virginia?
1 to 10 business days, counted from the first day you can receive. West Virginia is on our standard schedule, more than an 8-hour drive from Texas. For one fixed day, ask about a guaranteed delivery date, which costs extra.
Can the price go up on moving day?
Only if your shipment changes, and only in writing. The foreman revises the binding estimate before loading, and you approve it first.
What if my new home isn't ready?
Use storage in transit. We hold the shipment at our Fort Worth or Houston location; the first 30 days are free, then it's billed monthly.
Can your truck get up a steep West Virginia driveway?
Often not with a full-size trailer. We plan a shuttle truck from your survey, and it's billed in addition to your estimate.
Is there a separate fee for the long drive?
No. Your cubic-foot rate to West Virginia covers the transportation. Long-distance moves start at $1,200.
Who takes apart the furniture?
Our crew does. Basic disassembly and reassembly is included.
What if an item arrives broken?
You have 9 months from delivery to file a claim, and we help you through it.
