Texas to Oregon Movers

Texas to Oregon Movers

Few moves out of Texas cover more ground than this one. Fort Worth to Portland is close to 2,000 road miles, and Houston to Eugene runs past 2,250. Condor Moving Systems has been moving families between Texas and other states since 2003, with our own trucks and our own crews working from locations in Fort Worth and Houston. We load anywhere in Texas and deliver to the Portland metro, the Willamette Valley, Central Oregon around Bend, and Southern Oregon from Medford to Ashland.

Delivery Window: 1–21 Business Days

Plan on 1 to 21 business days for standard delivery from Texas to Oregon, counted from the first day you can take delivery. Oregon is one of the farthest deliveries we make from Texas, which is why it carries the longer window. Most shipments get there well inside that range, but set up your housing so the late end of the window wouldn't leave you stuck.

Ways to work with the window:

  • Your pickup day is fixed. Condor guarantees the date we load in Texas.
  • Need one exact delivery day? A guaranteed delivery date is available for an additional charge.
  • Keys not ready yet? Storage in transit holds your inventoried shipment until you are.
  • Drive the essentials yourself. Bedding, medicine, documents and a week of clothes belong in the car.

Next-day delivery only applies on dedicated trucks to places within about an 8-hour drive, so it isn't offered to Oregon.

West of the Cascades or East of Them

Oregon is really two places. West of the Cascades, in Portland, Salem, Corvallis and Eugene, winters are mild, gray and wet, with steady rain from about October into May. East of the mountains, Bend, Redmond and Sisters sit in high desert at roughly 3,600 feet, with dry summers, cold nights and real snow in winter.

That split matters on moving day. In the valley, plan for rain: we wrap and pad everything regardless, but a covered porch or garage to stage boxes helps. In Central Oregon, a winter delivery can mean ice on the driveway and chains on the passes. Tell us early if your new home is up a gravel road outside Bend or in the hills above Ashland, where a full-size trailer may not fit. Shuttle service is charged in addition to your estimate and starts at $450.

What Every Oregon Move Includes

  1. Furniture prep. The crew disassembles what has to come apart in your Texas house.
  2. Padding. Every piece of furniture is blanket-wrapped for the trip.
  3. Inventory. Each item gets a numbered tag, and you sign the inventory list before departure.
  4. Delivery and setup. Items go into the rooms you name, and anything we took apart gets reassembled.
  5. A consultant of your own, start to finish.
  6. Basic coverage. Released value protection pays 60 cents per pound per article; it is required by federal rules and is not insurance. Full value replacement is available through Baker International, not from Condor.

Packing is extra on every move. Pick a full pack, a partial pack for breakables, or pack it all yourself.

Punctual, good and professional. Condor Moving System is my go-to moving guys now. Fairly priced for the level of professional moving service they provide to their customers. They were very good in communication to me and among themselves. I have had many bad experiences with multiple movers before it. Condor is the first ever company that I found nobody to complain about, which is maybe a pretty rare thing to say about relocators.

Movers did a great moving job even though it was a not smooth and it's a very long job. Best value for the money we spend. They stayed professional and were kind throughout the move process. They recognized my items and if I needed to change the things, they did it for me rapidly. Very friendly teamwork. Will surly use them again!

Getting From Texas to the Pacific Northwest

From Dallas-Fort Worth, a typical load to Portland heads northwest on US-287 through Wichita Falls and Amarillo, climbs into Colorado, picks up I-25 north past Denver, then crosses southern Wyoming on I-80 before joining I-84 for the long run through Idaho and down the Columbia River Gorge. Medford and Ashland are usually reached from the south instead, through California on I-5. From Houston, the truck first works up I-45 to Dallas and then follows the same corridor.

Lanes From Each Texas Metro

Austin and San Antonio loads, about 2,050 to 2,065 miles to Portland, usually go north on I-35 to meet US-287 near Fort Worth rather than crossing West Texas. Houston is the longest origin at roughly 2,255 miles to Portland and 2,275 to Eugene, close to 40 hours behind the wheel before rest breaks. Dallas runs about 2,020 miles. For Bend and Central Oregon, many trucks leave I-84 near Biggs and drop south on US-97, which saves time over going through Portland. Medford deliveries are often paired with our California route and come up I-5 from the south.

Mountain Passes and Chain Rules

I-84 crosses the Blue Mountains between La Grande and Pendleton, including the steep descent locals call Cabbage Hill. From late fall through spring, Oregon can require trucks to carry or install chains on that stretch and on Cascade crossings such as US-20 over Santiam Pass and US-97 toward Bend. Our drivers watch ODOT's TripCheck conditions and will not push through a closure. If a storm holds a truck for a day, it stays inside your delivery window; it's one more reason to keep a little slack in your plans for a winter move.

How a Texas to Oregon Move Is Priced

There's one base measure on a Condor interstate move: cubic feet. We work out how much room your shipment needs, and that volume at your route's rate is the transportation price, miles to Oregon included. Long-distance moves start at $1,200.

Shrink the shipment, shrink the bill:

  • Measure the big pieces against your Oregon floor plan. Older Portland bungalows and Craftsman homes have smaller rooms and tighter stairs than most Texas builds.
  • Leave behind outdoor furniture built for a Texas patio if your new yard will be wet half the year.
  • Ask about a partial pack for glassware, art and the kitchen, and box the rest yourself.

Possible added lines are limited to things like packing and materials, crating, long carries or stairs, a shuttle truck, storage in transit, coverage and a guaranteed delivery date.

Your price is binding

We only write binding estimates. When the household you're moving grows or shrinks after the survey, the foreman updates the estimate on paper before loading, and you approve the new figure first.

How you get quoted

Most people choose a Zoom video survey and walk a consultant through the house on a phone. A phone quote works if you can give us an accurate furniture list and box count; a binding phone quote without a survey requires a signed survey waiver. In-person surveys are offered only in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Oregon Habits Texans Notice

No sales tax. Oregon doesn't charge one, so big furniture or appliance purchases may make more sense after you arrive than before you leave.

Bottle deposits. Most cans and bottles carry a 10-cent deposit you get back at a store or redemption center.

Utilities. Portland General Electric serves Portland and much of the northern Willamette Valley; Pacific Power covers other parts of the state, including much of Central and Southern Oregon. NW Natural supplies gas in the Portland area. Set up service before the truck arrives.

Students, Faculty and Military Families

The University of Oregon in Eugene and Oregon State in Corvallis both pull in faculty, staff and graduate students each summer; late September move-in fills both towns with rental traffic. Portland State and OHSU hires move into the city year-round.

Oregon's main Air Force installation is Kingsley Field in Klamath Falls, home to an Air National Guard fighter wing. Condor handles PPM moves, where the service member arranges the move and is reimbursed by the government, plus retiree moves and government-arranged shipments. Certified weight tickets are available on military moves; we don't weigh trucks on any other kind of move.

A Practical Oregon Moving-Day Checklist

Portland neighborhoods such as Northwest, Sellwood and Alberta have narrow streets lined with parked cars, and a tractor-trailer can't always park in front of the house. If your street is tight, ask the city about reserving curb space, or plan for the crew to carry farther than usual. In apartment buildings, reserve the freight elevator and loading area for your delivery day and send us the building's certificate-of-insurance request in advance.

Rain doesn't stop a delivery, but it changes the flow: crews lay runners at the door, and you'll want towels near the entry. If you're moving into a home with a long gravel drive outside Bend or Sisters, tell us whether it's been graded recently. And if your move lands near the start of fall term in Eugene or Corvallis, expect more rental trucks than usual on residential streets.

Your First 30 Days as an Oregonian

Oregon gives new residents 30 days to get an Oregon driver's license and to title and register their vehicles. Out-of-state vehicles usually need a VIN inspection at DMV, and if you live in the Portland metro or the Medford–Ashland area, the car will also need a DEQ emissions test before it can be registered. The Oregon DMV new-resident page lists the documents to bring.

Oregon also asks new residents to update voter registration, which you can do when you get your license, and to file an Oregon income tax return for the part of the year you lived there; Oregon taxes wages even though it has no sales tax. Schedule PGE or Pacific Power, gas, internet and trash pickup before delivery day, and if you're renting, ask the property manager about recycling rules, since Portland-area haulers sort glass separately.

Oregon Move Questions

What is the delivery window to Oregon?

1 to 21 business days, counted from the first day you can receive. Oregon is close to 2,000 road miles from Dallas-Fort Worth, one of our longest routes, and the far-northern and Pacific states get the longer window. For one fixed day, ask about a guaranteed delivery date, which costs extra.

Can the price go up on moving day?

Only if your shipment changes, and only in writing. The foreman revises the binding estimate before loading, and you approve it first.

What if my new home isn't ready?

Use storage in transit. We hold the shipment at our Fort Worth or Houston location; the first 30 days are free, then it's billed monthly.

Is there a separate fee for the long drive?

No. Your cubic-foot rate to Oregon covers the transportation. Long-distance moves start at $1,200.

Do you deliver to Bend in the winter?

Yes. Central Oregon gets snow and the passes can require chains, so we plan routing around conditions. Clear the driveway before the crew arrives, and allow for the full delivery window.

Who takes apart the furniture?

Our crew does. Basic disassembly and reassembly is included.

What if an item arrives broken?

You have 9 months from delivery to file a claim, and we help you through it.
