Texas to Delaware Movers
Delaware is small, but the moves we make there from Texas are not. Fort Worth to Wilmington is about 1,470 road miles, and the beach towns of Lewes and Rehoboth are a little farther. Condor Moving Systems has moved families from Texas to other states since 2003, using our own trucks and crews based in Fort Worth and Houston. We pick up anywhere in Texas and deliver throughout Delaware's three counties, from Wilmington and Newark to Dover and the Sussex County coast.

Delaware Delivery Window
Plan on 1 to 10 business days for standard delivery from Texas to Delaware, counted from the first day you can take delivery. Delaware is on our 1 to 10 business-day schedule. Most shipments get there well inside that range, but set up your housing so the late end of the window wouldn't leave you stuck.
Ways to work with the window:
- Your pickup day is fixed. Condor guarantees the date we load in Texas.
- Need one exact delivery day? A guaranteed delivery date is available for an additional charge.
- Keys not ready yet? Storage in transit holds your inventoried shipment until you are.
- Drive the essentials yourself. Bedding, medicine, documents and a week of clothes belong in the car.
Next-day delivery only applies on dedicated trucks to places within about an 8-hour drive, so it isn't offered to Delaware.
Texas to Delaware
Most loads from Dallas-Fort Worth run I-30 and I-40 to Tennessee, then I-81 north through Virginia to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, before heading southeast toward Wilmington. Kent and Sussex County deliveries continue south on Delaware Route 1. Houston departures usually take I-10 and I-12 to I-59 and I-75, joining I-81 in Tennessee.

Delaware Mileage by Origin
Dallas to Wilmington is about 1,435 miles, roughly 26 hours behind the wheel. Houston runs about 1,515 miles. Austin is about 1,630 miles away and San Antonio about 1,710. Dover is about 50 miles south of Wilmington on Delaware Route 1, and the beach towns of Lewes and Rehoboth are another 45 or so. Sussex County deliveries sometimes come down through Maryland on US-13 instead, depending on traffic and bridge conditions.
No Sales Tax and Other Delaware Basics
Delaware has no sales tax, which is one reason Texans and plenty of neighbors from nearby states shop there. If you need furniture after you arrive, you won't pay sales tax on it. Delaware does have a state income tax.
Delmarva Power serves most of northern Delaware, while the Delaware Electric Cooperative covers much of the rural south. Some towns, including Dover and Newark, run their own municipal electric utilities. Check your address before you call.
What Every Delaware Move Includes
The base price for a Texas to Delaware move covers the following:
- Taking apart furniture that needs it, then putting it back together in Delaware
- Blanket wrap on every piece of furniture
- Inventory stickers and a signed inventory sheet at origin
- Unloading into the rooms you choose
- A single moving consultant as your contact throughout
- Released value protection at 60 cents per pound per article, the federal minimum. This is moving coverage, not an insurance policy. For more, Baker International offers Full value replacement; we don't sell it ourselves.
Not in the base price: packing. Packing by our crew is always added separately, either full or partial, and you're welcome to pack your own boxes instead.
Trusted by Texas Families Since 2003
Punctual, good and professional. Condor Moving System is my go-to moving guys now. Fairly priced for the level of professional moving service they provide to their customers. They were very good in communication to me and among themselves. I have had many bad experiences with multiple movers before it. Condor is the first ever company that I found nobody to complain about, which is maybe a pretty rare thing to say about relocators.
Movers did a great moving job even though it was a not smooth and it's a very long job. Best value for the money we spend. They stayed professional and were kind throughout the move process. They recognized my items and if I needed to change the things, they did it for me rapidly. Very friendly teamwork. Will surly use them again!
These movers did a best job even though it was a tough and time taking job. Best value for the money it cost. Stayed professional and were helpful throughout the day of move. Honored my goods and if I required things changed they did it for me in little time. Very coordinated teamwork. Will definitely use them again for coming movers!
The Beach Towns and Summer Traffic
Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, Bethany Beach and the communities along Route 1 in Sussex County fill up from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and Route 1 traffic can back up for miles on summer Saturdays. Many Texans move to the area's 55-and-over communities, which often have HOA rules on truck size and move hours. Send those rules early. If your street is narrow or the community bans tractor-trailers, we'll plan a smaller shuttle truck. Shuttle service is charged in addition to your estimate and starts at $450.
What a Delaware Move Costs
Condor prices every long-distance move by the cubic foot. The survey measures how much truck space your household needs, and the per-cubic-foot rate already covers the haul from Texas to Delaware; distance isn't billed separately. Long-distance moves start at $1,200.
Because size drives the total, these help most:
- Beach houses and condos in Sussex County are often smaller than a Texas house; measure.
- Leave large outdoor furniture if your new place is a condo.
- Pack the easy rooms yourself and leave breakables to the crew.
Other lines that can appear: packing and materials, crating, stairs or elevators, a shuttle truck, storage in transit, extra coverage and a guaranteed delivery date.
A binding number
The estimate you sign is binding. Add or drop items after the survey and the foreman writes up the change on moving day, before the crew loads, for you to approve first. There is no surprise total after delivery.
The survey
We quote from a video survey on Zoom, from a phone call with your list of furniture and boxes (you sign a written survey waiver to make a phone quote binding), or, inside the Dallas-Fort Worth area only, from an in-person visit.
Dover AFB and the University of Delaware
Dover Air Force Base is the state's main military installation. Condor handles PPM moves, where the service member arranges the move and is reimbursed by the government, plus retiree moves and government-arranged shipments. Certified weight tickets are available on military moves; we don't weigh trucks on any other kind of move.
The University of Delaware in Newark brings in faculty, staff and graduate students each year; late-August move-in makes Newark's streets busy. Delaware State University in Dover hires from out of state as well. Many Wilmington moves are corporate relocations for banking, chemical and pharmaceutical employers; when an employer or relocation company pays, we bill them directly.
Preparing for Your Delaware Delivery
Wilmington's older neighborhoods, such as Trolley Square and the Highlands, have rowhomes and twins on narrow streets with tight parking. North Wilmington and Hockessin have larger homes with long driveways. New construction in Middletown and the Route 1 corridor often has HOA rules. In every case, send photos and rules to your consultant before delivery day.
Most loads cross into Delaware on I-95 or the Delaware Memorial Bridge from New Jersey. Both get congested at rush hour, so the crew will plan its arrival time. Coastal storms in late summer and fall can affect timing in Sussex County.

Delaware Communities
In New Castle County, North Wilmington, Hockessin, Greenville and Pike Creek have established neighborhoods with larger lots, and Newark is a college town built around the University of Delaware. Middletown has grown quickly with new subdivisions between Wilmington and Dover, many with HOA rules for trucks.
Kent County, around Dover, Smyrna and Camden, has lower home prices and many military families connected to Dover Air Force Base. In Sussex County, Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, Milton and Millsboro have become a destination for retirees and remote workers, with many 55-and-over communities and new construction on former farmland. Coastal Sussex gets busy in summer, and Route 1 traffic can add an hour to a delivery. Western Sussex, around Seaford and Laurel, is more rural, with farm roads and longer distances between services. Wherever you're moving, send us the community's rules before delivery.
