Texas to Vermont Movers

Texas to Vermont Movers

Vermont is about as far from a Texas summer as you can get: green mountains, small towns and real winters. Fort Worth to Burlington is about 1,765 road miles, and Houston to Montpelier is about 1,900. Condor Moving Systems has moved Texans out of state since 2003, with our own trucks and our own crews from Fort Worth and Houston. We pick up anywhere in Texas and deliver to Burlington, Montpelier, Rutland, Brattleboro, Bennington, Stowe and the towns between them.

What Every Vermont Move Includes

  1. Furniture prep. The crew disassembles what has to come apart in your Texas house.
  2. Padding. Every piece of furniture is blanket-wrapped for the trip.
  3. Inventory. Each item gets a numbered tag, and you sign the inventory list before departure.
  4. Delivery and setup. Items go into the rooms you name, and anything we took apart gets reassembled.
  5. A consultant of your own, start to finish.
  6. Basic coverage. Released value protection pays 60 cents per pound per article; it is required by federal rules and is not insurance. Full value replacement is available through Baker International, not from Condor.

Packing is extra on every move. Pick a full pack, a partial pack for breakables, or pack it all yourself.

Delivery to Vermont

Your shipment to Vermont is scheduled for delivery within 1 to 21 business days of the first day you can accept it. Vermont is one of our New England states, which carry the longer window.

  • Load date: guaranteed by Condor.
  • Delivery date: inside the window, or on a single guaranteed day for an additional charge.
  • Gap between homes: covered by storage in transit, held at our Fort Worth or Houston location.
  • First few nights: pack a car bag with sheets, chargers, toiletries and paperwork.

Dedicated next-day delivery is limited to destinations within about 8 hours of driving, which rules it out for Vermont.

Mud Season and Back Roads

Vermont has a fifth season. In March and April, as the ground thaws, many of the state's gravel roads turn to deep mud, and towns post weight limits that keep heavy trucks off them. If your new home is on a dirt road, a full-size truck may not be allowed on it in spring. We may use a smaller shuttle truck for the last stretch, which is charged in addition to your estimate and starts at $450.

In winter, snow and ice on hills and back roads can make a steep driveway unsafe. Keep it plowed and sanded, and allow flexibility for storms. Summer and early fall are the easiest times to move to Vermont.

Punctual, good and professional. Condor Moving System is my go-to moving guys now. Fairly priced for the level of professional moving service they provide to their customers. They were very good in communication to me and among themselves. I have had many bad experiences with multiple movers before it. Condor is the first ever company that I found nobody to complain about, which is maybe a pretty rare thing to say about relocators.

Movers did a great moving job even though it was a not smooth and it's a very long job. Best value for the money we spend. They stayed professional and were kind throughout the move process. They recognized my items and if I needed to change the things, they did it for me rapidly. Very friendly teamwork. Will surly use them again!

What Your Vermont Move Costs

There's one base measure on a Condor interstate move: cubic feet. We work out how much room your shipment needs, and that volume at your route's rate is the transportation price, miles to Vermont included. Long-distance moves start at $1,200.

Shrink the shipment, shrink the bill:

  • Vermont farmhouses and older homes have small rooms and steep stairs; measure.
  • Leave heavy outdoor furniture that won't survive winter.
  • Pack books and clothing yourself; leave fragile rooms to the crew.

Possible added lines are limited to things like packing and materials, crating, long carries or stairs, a shuttle truck, storage in transit, coverage and a guaranteed delivery date.

Your price is binding

We only write binding estimates. When the household you're moving grows or shrinks after the survey, the foreman updates the estimate on paper before loading, and you approve the new figure first.

How you get quoted

Most people choose a Zoom video survey and walk a consultant through the house on a phone. A phone quote works if you can give us an accurate furniture list and box count; a binding phone quote without a survey requires a signed survey waiver. In-person surveys are offered only in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Burlington, Colleges and Employers

The University of Vermont in Burlington and Middlebury College hire faculty and staff from across the country, and UVM's late-August move-in makes Burlington's rental streets busy. Hospital and health care jobs also bring people to Burlington, Lebanon (just over the line in New Hampshire) and Rutland. We do PPM moves (service member arranges, government reimburses), retiree moves and government-arranged shipments. If your orders call for certified weight tickets, we provide them; that's the only kind of move we weigh.

Green Mountain Power supplies electricity to most of Vermont, while Burlington Electric Department serves the city of Burlington. Many rural homes use propane, heating oil or wood heat; ask the previous owner which companies deliver.

Small-Town Details

Vermont has a container deposit on beer and soda bottles and cans. Many towns don't have curbside trash pickup, so residents use a transfer station or hire a private hauler. Internet service varies widely in rural areas, so check before you commit to a remote-work start date.

Fall foliage season brings heavy visitor traffic in late September and early October, and ski season brings heavy traffic to Stowe, Killington and Stratton. Schedule a weekday delivery if you can.

Plan and Book Early

Give us at least two weeks' notice for a Vermont move; earlier is better in summer. Call during office hours, Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM CT. If your employer or a relocation company is paying, we bill them directly.

Choosing a Vermont Town

Chittenden County, around Burlington, is where most of Vermont's jobs are, and South Burlington, Williston, Essex and Shelburne have the most newer housing. Burlington itself has older homes, apartments near UVM and the Lake Champlain waterfront. Montpelier, the smallest state capital in the country, has older homes close to downtown, and nearby Barre and Waterbury are a short drive away.

Southern Vermont, around Brattleboro, Manchester and Bennington, is closer to Massachusetts and New York, and many residents commute or work remotely. Rutland, Woodstock and the Killington area draw people who want mountain living. The Northeast Kingdom is the most rural part of the state, with farmland, lakes and long winters. Housing in Vermont is limited and older than in much of the country, so many homes have small rooms, low ceilings and steep stairs that matter on moving day.

Vermont DMV Requirements

Vermont gives new residents 60 days to get a Vermont driver's license and to register their vehicles, or sooner if your Texas license or registration expires first. After registering, the vehicle must pass a Vermont inspection within 15 days. See the Vermont DMV new-resident page.

Vermont has a state income tax and a sales tax, plus a purchase-and-use tax when you register a vehicle, with credit for some tax paid elsewhere. Register to vote with your town clerk.

Your town clerk is the place to start for local questions, from voter registration to dog licenses and transfer station permits. Line up heating fuel before your first winter: many Vermont homes use propane or oil, and new customers sometimes wait for a first delivery in the cold months. Ask the previous owner or landlord which company services the furnace and how the driveway gets plowed.

Texas to Vermont FAQ

How long will my things take to reach Vermont?

The standard window is 1 to 21 business days from your first available delivery day. Vermont is in northern New England, which we schedule with the longer window. A guaranteed delivery date is available for an additional charge.

Can you store my things before delivery in Vermont?

Yes, with storage in transit, held at our Fort Worth or Houston location. Your shipment keeps its original inventory. The first 30 days are free; after that it's billed monthly.

Will I see a mileage charge for Vermont?

No separate mileage line. Pricing is per cubic foot with the distance built in. Long-distance moves start at $1,200.

Can you deliver on a dirt road during mud season?

Sometimes not with a full-size truck, because towns post weight limits. We plan a shuttle truck, billed in addition to your estimate.

How do I report damage?

Go to our file a claim page. You have 9 months after delivery, and our team will support you through the process.

Could my estimate change?

Only when what you're moving changes. The revision is written up by the foreman before loading, and you sign off on it first.

Is disassembly extra?

No. Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly come with every move.
