Where Texans Land in Alabama
Huntsville and Madison. The "Rocket City" grew around Redstone Arsenal and NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center. Much of the housing in Madison, Harvest and Hampton Cove is newer construction, often with HOA move-in rules.
Birmingham and the Over the Mountain suburbs. Homewood, Mountain Brook, Vestavia Hills and Hoover sit on and around Red Mountain and Shades Mountain, so steep driveways and split-level homes are common.
Montgomery and the River Region. The state capital, Maxwell Air Force Base and the suburbs of Prattville and Pike Road.
Mobile and Baldwin County. Mobile, Daphne, Fairhope, Spanish Fort, Foley and Gulf Shores, from historic downtown houses to new coastal subdivisions.
College towns. Tuscaloosa (University of Alabama) and Auburn–Opelika (Auburn University).
The Drive to Alabama
From Dallas–Fort Worth, trucks take I-20 east through Shreveport, Monroe, Vicksburg and Jackson, then follow I-20/I-59 through Meridian into Alabama. Tuscaloosa comes first, then Birmingham. Huntsville deliveries leave Birmingham on I-65 north.
From Houston, I-10 runs along the Gulf through Baton Rouge and the Mississippi Coast to Mobile. Montgomery and the Wiregrass are reached from Mobile on I-65 north or US-231, depending on the destination.
Alabama is on Central Time, like nearly all of Texas, so there's no clock change on arrival.

Delivery Windows
Alabama deliveries arrive within 1 to 10 business days, counted from the first day you're able to receive the shipment. We guarantee the pickup date, and a guaranteed delivery date can be added for an additional charge.
Next-day delivery is limited to destinations within an 8-hour drive. Mobile is the closest Alabama city to Houston at about 8½ hours in our routing check, so even Mobile falls outside that limit. Every Alabama move runs on the standard window.
How the Price Works
All of our long-distance moves, Alabama included, are priced by cubic feet: the volume your household fills in the truck. The drive is already part of your route's cubic-foot rate, so there's no distance line on the estimate. Long-distance moves start at $1,200.

Binding estimates
Your written estimate is binding: the price stays the same for the inventory listed. If you add items before loading, the foreman revises the estimate in writing and you approve it before anything is loaded.
Ways to get a quote
Zoom video survey is the most popular. You hold the phone; a consultant walks through each room with you and builds the inventory. A phone quote works when you can give us an accurate item list and box count. For a binding phone quote with no video or in-person survey, you sign a written waiver of the survey. An in-person survey is available only in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Hills, Tunnels and Game Days
Birmingham's ridges
Over the Mountain neighborhoods are known for steep, curving streets and driveways that drop off sharply. Some can't take a full-size trailer. Send photos or a map pin with your quote request so we can plan. If a smaller truck has to shuttle your things from the street, shuttle service is charged in addition to your estimate and starts at $450.
Mobile's tunnels
Downtown Mobile has two tunnels under the Mobile River. The older Bankhead Tunnel has a 12-foot clearance and bans large trucks, so our trucks don't use it. Our deliveries to downtown Mobile and the Eastern Shore use I-10 through the George Wallace Tunnel and across the Bayway instead.
Football Saturdays
On fall home-game weekends, Tuscaloosa and Auburn fill up from Friday afternoon on. Roads near Bryant-Denny Stadium and Jordan-Hare Stadium close or crawl. We don't schedule campus-area deliveries on game days when we can avoid it. The Iron Bowl weekend in late November is the busiest of all.
Moving Into New Construction
A lot of our Alabama deliveries go to brand-new homes, especially in Madison County around Huntsville and in Baldwin County on the Eastern Shore and down toward Foley and Gulf Shores. New construction adds a few things to plan:
- Closing dates move. Builders often push the final walkthrough or certificate of occupancy back by days or weeks. If that happens after your Texas pickup, storage in transit holds your shipment until you have the keys.
- Unfinished streets. In a subdivision still being built, curbs, sidewalks and driveways may be fresh, and construction trucks may block the road. Tell us if the street is still active.
- HOA rules from day one. New HOAs often already have move-in rules on truck parking and hours. Ask the builder or management company for them.
- Protect new floors. Let the crew know about fresh hardwood or carpet so we can plan how furniture comes in.
Downtown Birmingham Lofts
Birmingham also has loft buildings downtown and in Lakeview that require reserved freight elevators. Send us the building's rules early so the delivery time matches the reservation.
Weather to Plan Around
Tornadoes. Alabama has two tornado seasons: a main one in spring, roughly March through May, and a second one in November and December. Storms here often come at night. When a warning covers the route or either address, we stop until it lifts.
Hurricanes. On the Gulf Coast, hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30. If a storm approaches Mobile or Baldwin County near your dates, we'll reschedule rather than send a truck into evacuation traffic.
Summer heat. July and August are hot and humid. Early starts help, and so does having power and air conditioning on at the new house.
Redstone Arsenal, Maxwell and Fort Rucker

Base access must be arranged ahead of time with crew names, IDs and truck details. Weight tickets are only used on military moves, and we can provide them when a military move needs them. Condor handles PPM moves, where the service member arranges the move and the government reimburses it, along with retiree moves and government-arranged shipments.
Campus Moves
The University of Alabama, Auburn, UAB in Birmingham and UAH in Huntsville all move students in during August. Complexes near campus usually require reserved move-in times. Book early if you're moving a student, and send the complex's rules to your consultant.
Alabama Paperwork After Your Move
- Driver's license: get an Alabama license within 30 days of becoming a resident. Your Texas license is valid until then.
- Vehicle: register within 30 days at the license-plate office in your county. Bring the car for a VIN inspection, plus your title or lienholder information, prior registration and proof of Alabama insurance.

How long does a move from Texas to Alabama take?
Delivery is within 1 to 10 business days from your first available day. A guaranteed delivery date can be added for an extra charge. No Alabama city is close enough for next-day delivery.
How do you price an Alabama move?
By cubic feet. Your route's cubic-foot rate includes the drive, and long-distance moves start at $1,200. You'll get a binding written estimate before we load.
Will I need to reset my clock in Alabama?
No. Alabama is on Central Time, the same as Dallas, Houston and the rest of central Texas, so your delivery appointment time means the same thing at both ends.

Maybe. Steep drives sometimes need a smaller shuttle truck, which is charged in addition to your estimate and starts at $450. Photos or a Zoom walk-through will tell us.
Can you hold my things until my Huntsville house closes?
Yes, in storage in transit, delivered later from the same tagged inventory. Storage in transit is held in Texas, at our Fort Worth or Houston location. The first 30 days are free; after that, it's billed monthly.
What if something is damaged?
Released value protection is included on every move at no extra charge. It's the carrier's basic liability under federal rules, 60 cents per pound per article, and it's moving coverage, not insurance. Full value replacement, which covers repair, replacement or a cash settlement, is available through Baker International; Condor doesn't sell full value protection itself. You can file a written claim for nine months after delivery, and we'll help.
