Piano Movers
A piano is the heaviest, most awkward and most valuable single item in most houses, and the one most often damaged by crews who treat it as furniture. Condor has moved pianos across Texas since 2003 — on piano boards with the right equipment, priced per instrument rather than by cubic foot.

Punctual, good and professional. Condor Moving System is my go-to moving guys now. Fairly priced for the level of professional moving service they provide to their customers. They were very good in communication to me and among themselves. I have had many bad experiences with multiple movers before it. Condor is the first ever company that I found nobody to complain about, which is maybe a pretty rare thing to say about relocators.Thomas C Davison
Movers did a great moving job even though it was a not smooth and it's a very long job. Best value for the money we spend. They stayed professional and were kind throughout the move process. They recognized my items and if I needed to change the things, they did it for me rapidly. Very friendly teamwork. Will surly use them again!Denis Tanney
These movers did a best job even though it was a tough and time taking job. Best value for the money it cost. Stayed professional and were helpful throughout the day of move. Honored my goods and if I required things changed they did it for me in little time. Very coordinated teamwork. Will definitely use them again for coming movers!Marks Josephine
Why a Piano Is Not Just Heavy Furniture
An upright runs 300 to 500 pounds and a grand can exceed 900, but weight is the easy part.
The difficulty is that the weight sits unevenly over a rigid frame, the case is finished in a surface that marks if you look at it wrong, and the legs on a grand are decorative rather than structural — lift it by them and they come off, usually taking a piece of the body with them. A grand is laid on its side on a padded piano board, the legs and lyre removed and wrapped separately, and the whole thing strapped before it moves an inch.

Why Customers Call Us for Pianos
Choosing a mover isn't just about finding someone with a truck. You're trusting a company with nearly everything inside your home.
Priced Per Instrument
A piano is quoted on its type, the access at both ends and the stairs involved, not by cubic foot. You get the number before the date.
Licensed for Texas & Interstate Moves
Condor operates under Texas and federal moving authority for local, intrastate and interstate relocations.
Local & Long-Distance Service
One company for moves across Texas, across Texas or across the country.
Packing & Storage Available
Add packing, specialty-item handling or storage when your move requires more than transportation.
A Texas Location
Condor has a Texas location with crews working the metro, rather than simply advertising moving services from another city.
Trucks & Crews Across Texas
Condor runs its own equipment and staffs crews throughout the state, so coverage isn't limited to a single metro or a single yard.
What a Piano Move Involves
Every piano move follows the same sequence, and what changes is how much of it is needed. A spinet up a driveway is a different job from a grand down two flights, and the estimate reflects that.
| Step | What happens | Applies to |
|---|---|---|
| Removal of legs | Legs, lyre and pedal assembly removed and wrapped separately | Grands |
| Piano board | Instrument laid on a padded board and strapped in place | Grands |
| Blanket wrapping | Full case wrapped in moving pads to protect the finish | All pianos |
| Keyboard protection | Lid closed and secured, keys covered | All pianos |
| Four-wheel dolly | Moved on a dedicated piano dolly, never dragged or walked | All pianos |
| Hardware bagging | Legs, bolts and small parts bagged and labelled to the instrument | Grands |
| Custom crating | Wooden crate built around the instrument for long-distance or storage | On request |
| Stair work | Additional crew and time where stairs or a tight turn are involved | As needed |
| Tuning afterwards | Recommended two to four weeks after the move, once the piano settles | All pianos |
Tuning is not included and is not something to book for the day after the move — a piano needs two to four weeks in its new room to settle before it holds a tune. Any tuner will tell you the same thing.

Pianos We Move
Moving in Texas presents logistical challenges that aren't always obvious when requesting a quote. Building restrictions, truck access, traffic, weather and distance from the truck to your door can all affect moving time. Here's what we consider when planning a Texas move.
Upright, Console & Spinet
The most common household piano, typically 300 to 500 pounds. Blanket-wrapped, keys protected, lid secured and moved on a four-wheel dolly. Two to three movers depending on access.
Baby Grand & Grand
Laid on its side on a padded piano board with the legs, lyre and pedal assembly removed, wrapped and bagged separately. Reassembled and levelled at the destination. Three to four movers, more where stairs are involved.
Player & Reproducing Pianos
The mechanism adds weight and is sensitive to handling and to humidity. Tell us it is a player piano when you book, because it changes both the crew and the way the instrument is wrapped.
Organs & Digital Pianos
Church organs, console organs and heavy digital instruments are handled as specialty items. Pedal boards and benches are wrapped separately and the bench hardware is bagged to the instrument.
Stairs, Turns & Tight Access
Each flight of stairs adds crew and time, and a staircase that turns or spirals can rule out some instruments entirely. We would rather know in advance than find out on the day, so photographs of the route help a great deal.
Storage & Climate
A piano should not sit in an unconditioned garage or storage unit. Humidity swings crack soundboards and loosen tuning pins. If the instrument is going into storage, tell us so it goes somewhere appropriate.

Piano Moving FAQ
How much does it cost to move a piano in Texas?
A piano is priced per instrument rather than by cubic foot, because the work is driven by the type, the access and the stairs rather than by the space it takes on a truck. An upright on one level is a very different job from a grand down two flights. Tell us the type, the stairs at both ends and the narrowest doorway on the route, and you get the number in writing before the date.
Do you move grand pianos?
Yes. A grand is laid on its side on a padded piano board with the legs, lyre and pedal assembly removed, wrapped and bagged separately, then strapped and moved as a single unit. It is reassembled and set level at the destination. Baby grands and full grands both travel this way.
Will my piano need tuning after the move?
Almost certainly, but not immediately. A piano needs two to four weeks in its new room to settle to the humidity and temperature before it will hold a tune. Tuning it the day after the move generally wastes the appointment. Tuning is not included in the move.
Can you get a piano up or down stairs?
Usually, but it depends on the staircase rather than the piano. Straight flights are manageable with additional crew. Staircases that turn, spiral or have a low ceiling at the turn can rule out larger instruments. Send photographs of the stairs and the route when you request your estimate so we can tell you honestly before the day.
Can a piano go into storage?
It can, but not into an unconditioned garage or standard storage unit. Humidity swings crack soundboards and loosen tuning pins, and the damage is slow and expensive. Tell us if the instrument is going into storage so it is placed somewhere appropriate.
Do you crate pianos for long-distance moves?
Custom wooden crating is available and is worth considering on a long haul or where the instrument is valuable. The crate is built to the piano’s dimensions, so we need measurements or photographs to quote it.
Is Condor Moving Systems licensed and insured?
Yes. Condor Moving Systems operates under USDOT 1126171, MC 458180 and TxDMV 006041428C, and is a direct mover rather than a broker.
