A Short Drive That Still Counts as Interstate
Crossing the Red River turns a three-hour drive into a federally regulated move. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) treats any household shipment from Texas into Oklahoma as interstate commerce, so the mover needs USDOT and MC authority, has to hand you the federal rights booklet, and has to follow federal claim deadlines. We operate under USDOT 1126171 and MC-458180.
The short distance changes the planning more than the paperwork. A Fort Worth family heading to Norman can have their furniture back together before the weekend. A Houston household going to Tulsa covers more than twice the ground and runs on the standard delivery window. We plan each one around its own route.

Routing is from OpenStreetMap (OSRM) between city centers, rounded. OSRM is a little more conservative than phone map apps, and a loaded truck is slower than a car.
Roads Across the Red River
Most of our Oklahoma trucks cross the Red River on I-35 north of Gainesville. The interstate climbs through the Arbuckle Mountains between Ardmore and Davis, one of the few real grades on the trip, then runs straight into Norman and Oklahoma City. Moves bound for Tulsa from Dallas usually skip I-35 and take US-75 north through Denison and Durant, then continue up US-69 and US-75 into Green Country. For Lawton, the H.E. Bailey Turnpike splits off I-44 southwest of Oklahoma City, or trucks come up from Wichita Falls on I-44 directly.
Every Oklahoma turnpike is cashless
The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority finished converting all 12 of its turnpikes to cashless tolling in November 2024. Cameras read your plate under the PlatePay system; drivers without a PIKEPASS or a compatible tag get an invoice in the mail at a higher rate than the tag price. If you'll drive your own car up the Turner, Kilpatrick or H.E. Bailey, an active TxTag works on Oklahoma turnpikes; keep only one tag in the car so you aren't billed twice.
How We Price an Oklahoma Move
Oklahoma moves are priced the way all our long-distance moves are: by the cubic feet your belongings take up on the truck. The cubic-foot rate for your route already includes the drive, so you won't see a separate distance charge. Long-distance moves start at $1,200.

- Packing, if you add it, and how much (full or partial)
- Crates for mirrors, art, marble tops or glass
- Pianos, safes and other pieces that take extra crew
- Long walks, stairs or elevators at either house
- A dedicated truck for next-day delivery, or a guaranteed delivery date
- Storage in transit while you wait on a closing or a lease
Binding, in writing, before loading
You get a binding estimate. That price is what you pay for the inventory we quoted. When the inventory grows (the storage unit you forgot, a second garage fridge), the foreman writes up the change and you sign it before anything is loaded.

- Zoom video survey. Our most popular option. You walk room to room with your phone while a consultant lists the items.
- Phone quote. Works well if you can give us an accurate item list and box count. For a binding phone quote with no video or in-person survey, you sign a written waiver of the survey.
- In-person survey. Available only in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Oklahoma Weather and Homes
Tornado season and storm shelters
Spring is peak tornado season in Oklahoma, with May usually the most active month. Moore, Norman and Oklahoma City have all taken direct hits in the past. When a tornado warning covers the route or either address, we stop and wait it out. Plan a little room on either side of your dates from April through June.
Many Oklahoma homes have an in-ground shelter in the garage floor or a safe room built into a closet. Tell us if yours does. Garage shelters with a sliding steel lid can make it hard to stage boxes or roll a dolly across the floor, and we'd rather know before load day.
Ice storms
Winter ice is a bigger risk in Oklahoma than snow. A glaze across I-35 or I-44 can shut the roads for a day. If you're moving between December and February, keep a backup date in mind.
Rural acreage
Outside the metros, a lot of Oklahoma addresses sit at the end of a gravel road, a cattle guard or a long private drive. Send a map pin or a photo with your quote request so we can check whether a full trailer fits. If it doesn't, a smaller shuttle truck finishes the trip. Shuttle service is charged in addition to your estimate and starts at $450.
Military Moves to Fort Sill, Tinker, Vance and Altus
Oklahoma has four major installations:
- Fort Sill, next to Lawton, home of the Army's Field Artillery
- Tinker Air Force Base, in Midwest City on the east side of Oklahoma City
- Vance Air Force Base, in Enid
- Altus Air Force Base, in southwest Oklahoma
All four are inside next-day range from DFW. Getting a crew onto base takes gate passes, so we need names, driver's licenses and truck details on file ahead of time. Weight tickets are only part of a move when it's a military move; if yours needs them, we can provide them. Our military work includes PPM moves (you set up the move and are reimbursed by the government), retiree moves and shipments arranged by the government.
OU, OSU and College-Town Moves
The University of Oklahoma in Norman and Oklahoma State University in Stillwater both move in during mid-August, and both towns turn over leases at the end of May and July. Apartment complexes near campus often limit move-in hours and reserve loading spots by the hour. If your move lands in one of those weeks, ask the complex for its rules and pass them to your consultant.
Football Saturdays in the fall also close streets around Owen Field in Norman and Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater. We avoid those days for deliveries near campus when we can.
Settling In: Oklahoma License and Tags
Service Oklahoma handles licenses and tags. Your out-of-state license can usually be transferred without a road test if it is current or expired less than six months. A vehicle you bring from Texas should be registered within 30 days of moving; after that, late penalties apply. In Oklahoma your plate stays with you rather than the car, so keep it if you later sell the vehicle.

Can my things arrive in Oklahoma the day after you load?
Yes, if your pickup is in Dallas–Fort Worth and your new home is in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Lawton, Norman, Stillwater, Enid or another city inside an 8-hour drive. We send a dedicated truck with only your shipment. From Houston, next-day delivery reaches Durant and Ardmore.
Is a 200-mile move really priced like a long-distance move?
Yes. Because it crosses a state line, we price it by cubic feet, not hourly. The rate for your route includes the drive. Long-distance moves start at $1,200.
What if my Oklahoma closing gets pushed back?
We can hold your inventoried shipment in storage in transit and deliver when the house is ready. Storage in transit is held in Texas, at our Fort Worth or Houston location. The first 30 days are free; after that, it's billed monthly.
Does the truck need a scale ticket?
No, not for a regular household move. Weight tickets only come up on military moves, and we provide them when a military move calls for them.
Will you move my storm shelter or safe room?
No. In-ground shelters and built-in safe rooms stay with the house. We'll work around them while loading and unloading.
Can you take my gun safe?
Yes. Tell us its size and where it sits in the house, and it goes on the estimate as a heavy item. Ammunition can't travel on the truck, so plan to move it yourself.
What protection do I have if something is damaged?
Released value protection is included on every move at no extra charge. It's the carrier's basic liability under federal rules, 60 cents per pound per article, and it's moving coverage, not insurance. Full value replacement, which covers repair, replacement or a cash settlement, is available through Baker International; Condor doesn't sell full value protection itself. You have nine months after delivery to file a written claim, and we'll help you through it.
Can I get a binding price over the phone?
Yes, if you can give us an accurate list of furniture and a box count. Most people find a short Zoom video survey easier.
