Movers in McKinney, TX: Local and Long-Distance Moving

McKinney Movers

McKinney became the seat of Collin County in 1848, and both the city and the county carry the name of Collin McKinney, a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence. For most of its history it was a farm town built around a courthouse square. Then it grew fast: 54,369 people lived here in 2000, and the 2020 census counted 195,308, making McKinney the third-largest city in Collin County after Plano and Frisco. If you are weighing moving companies in McKinney, TX, start with who shows up at your door. Condor Moving Systems is a woman-owned mover from Fort Worth that has sent its own employees and its own trucks to every job since 2003. Our movers in McKinney, TX take on moves from one McKinney street to another, from a Stonebridge Ranch house to a Craig Ranch townhome, and moves from McKinney to Austin, Houston or a different state.

Punctual, good and professional. Condor Moving System is my go-to moving guys now. Fairly priced for the level of professional moving service they provide to their customers. They were very good in communication to me and among themselves. I have had many bad experiences with multiple movers before it. Condor is the first ever company that I found nobody to complain about, which is maybe a pretty rare thing to say about relocators.

Movers did a great moving job even though it was a not smooth and it's a very long job. Best value for the money we spend. They stayed professional and were kind throughout the move process. They recognized my items and if I needed to change the things, they did it for me rapidly. Very friendly teamwork. Will surly use them again!

Local movers in McKinney, TX: what you pay and how the estimate works

Two movers with a truck cost $175 an hour on a local McKinney job. There is a four-hour minimum, which is the labor plus a trip charge for bringing the truck up from Fort Worth. McKinney is roughly 51 to 58 miles from our yard, so the trip charge here can be more than one hour, and your estimate spells it out. You get a binding estimate in writing before the move, listing the crew size, the truck and the total price. When the crew arrives, the foreman walks through the house with you before anything is carried out. If you have added furniture or rooms since the survey, the foreman writes a revised estimate, and you sign it first. The things that move a McKinney total most are long carries from a driveway on a cul-de-sac, a second-floor game room full of heavy pieces, and boxes that are still being packed when the truck pulls up.

Historic downtown McKinney and the square

The old Collin County Courthouse went up in 1876 and was remodeled in 1927. It now houses the McKinney Performing Arts Center, and the shops and restaurants around it make up the downtown square. The streets nearby hold some of the oldest houses in the county, along with Chestnut Square Heritage Village, where the Saturday farmers market sets up. Moves here need a little more planning than a move in a newer subdivision:

  • Festival dates. Downtown streets close for events such as Arts in Bloom in April, Texas Music Revolution in June and Oktoberfest in late September. Check the city calendar before you pick a date.
  • Curb space. Older blocks have narrow streets and mature trees. Tell us where a truck can stop, and the survey will note whether a longer walk to the door is needed.
  • Old houses. Tight stairs and original door frames can limit what fits. We measure the big pieces before move day, so nothing gets forced.

Stonebridge Ranch, Craig Ranch and west McKinney

West of US 75, most of McKinney was built in master-planned communities. Stonebridge Ranch is one of the largest, and like many of its neighbors it has a homeowners association that may set rules on parking and moving trucks. Ask your HOA or management company for those rules early, and send us any gate codes a few days before the move. Craig Ranch, near SH 121 in the southwest corner of the city, is home to TPC Craig Ranch, which hosts the PGA Tour's AT&T Byron Nelson each May. Traffic around the course is heavy that week, so we plan around it. Adriatica Village, with its Croatian-style buildings, and the newer neighborhoods along the Sam Rayburn Tollway mix townhomes, apartments and single-family houses.

School district lines matter here. About two-thirds of McKinney students are in McKinney ISD. The rest attend Frisco, Prosper, Allen, Lovejoy and other districts, so check the district for an address before you sign a lease or buy a house.

East McKinney and new construction

East of US 75 and north of US 380, new subdivisions keep opening, and many McKinney moves start or end at a home that was just finished. Builder closing dates move around, so a lot of new-construction moves need flexible timing. If your closing date slips, we can hold the load in our Fort Worth warehouse and deliver when you get the keys. On a new house, we walk the route from the driveway to each room with you first, so the crew knows where every piece goes before the first box comes off the truck.

Moving services in McKinney, TX: packing, crating and storage

Our moving services in McKinney start with careful loading and driving, and they include taking apart and putting back together bed frames, tables and other bolted furniture at no added cost. We don't take apart particleboard or flat-pack furniture. Packing is an add-on with its own price: you can have us pack the whole house, just the kitchen and glassware, or a few rooms you don't want to deal with. The options are listed on our packing and crating page. For a gap between closings, our moving and storage page shows how monthly storage at our Fort Worth warehouse works.

Corporate relocation in McKinney and office moves

The city's largest employers include Raytheon, Globe Life and Encore Wire, along with Collin County, McKinney ISD and two large hospitals, so job transfers in and out of McKinney happen all the time. For corporate relocation in McKinney, we bill employers and relocation management companies directly, so the employee doesn't have to pay first and wait to be paid back. We move offices on evenings and weekends for an extra charge, and we tell you that charge when you book. Our office movers and corporate relocation pages explain how we plan an office move or a group of employee moves. Before you hire any mover, read our guide to licensed and insured movers in McKinney. If you are still choosing a suburb, see our post on moving to Frisco, McKinney or Prosper.

Long-distance moving from McKinney to another state

We hold our own interstate authority, so a move from McKinney to another state stays with Condor from start to finish. The employees who load the truck at your McKinney house drive it to the new address and carry everything inside. No broker resells the job to another company. Here is what changes when you cross a state line:

  1. It's priced by volume. An interstate move is priced by the cubic feet of your shipment. It starts at $1,200 with a 200 cubic foot minimum, and the binding estimate comes from an inventory of every room.
  2. Texas moves stay hourly. Moves from McKinney to Austin, Houston or San Antonio are billed by the hour, with a binding estimate.
  3. Delivery is a window. A trailer may carry more than one household, so you get a range of delivery dates. If you can't move in yet, we can keep the shipment in storage in transit.
  4. Some routes have their own pages. McKinney moves often go to Texas to Virginia, Texas to New Jersey, Texas to Washington and Texas to Missouri. See every route on our long-distance movers page.

All of our interstate moves operate under USDOT 1126171 and MC-458180. You get the federal booklet Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move along with your estimate.

Getting from our Fort Worth yard to McKinney

Our trucks start at 4009 E Loop 820 S, Fort Worth, TX 76119. They take Loop 820 north and SH 121/183 east, then follow SH 121 and the Sam Rayburn Tollway northeast into McKinney. Without traffic, the drive takes about:

  • Craig Ranch: 51 miles, 65 minutes
  • Stonebridge Ranch: 55 miles, 70 minutes
  • Historic downtown square: 58 miles, 70 minutes

SH 121 and US 75 back up badly at rush hour, and so do the roads around Craig Ranch during Byron Nelson week. We set your crew's start time with that in mind.
