Garland Movers
Garland grew out of two rival railroad settlements, Embree and Duck Creek. In 1887 a new post office between them was named for U.S. Attorney General Augustus Hill Garland, and the combined town incorporated in 1891. It is now the third-largest city in Dallas County, with small pieces reaching into Collin and Rockwall counties, and the 2020 census counted 246,018 residents. Punctual, good and professional. Condor Moving System is my go-to moving guys now. Fairly priced for the level of professional moving service they provide to their customers. They were very good in communication to me and among themselves. I have had many bad experiences with multiple movers before it. Condor is the first ever company that I found nobody to complain about, which is maybe a pretty rare thing to say about relocators.
Movers did a great moving job even though it was a not smooth and it's a very long job. Best value for the money we spend. They stayed professional and were kind throughout the move process. They recognized my items and if I needed to change the things, they did it for me rapidly. Very friendly teamwork. Will surly use them again!
These movers did a best job even though it was a tough and time taking job. Best value for the money it cost. Stayed professional and were helpful throughout the day of move. Honored my goods and if I required things changed they did it for me in little time. Very coordinated teamwork. Will definitely use them again for coming movers!
Local movers in Garland, TX: the rate, the minimum and the estimate
For a local Garland move, two movers and a truck cost $175 an hour. All local jobs have a four-hour minimum, made up of labor and a trip charge for driving the truck in from Fort Worth. Garland is roughly 46 to 55 miles from our yard, so the trip charge here can be more than one hour, and your estimate spells it out. Before the move you get a binding estimate in writing showing the crew, the truck and the price. On move day the foreman checks the inventory with you room by room. If something was added after the survey, it goes on an updated estimate that you approve before loading starts. In Garland, totals tend to rise with third-floor walk-up apartments, garages packed to the ceiling, and long walks from the only spot a truck can park.
Firewheel and north Garland
North Garland, around the President George Bush Turnpike, is the newest part of the city. Firewheel Town Center, an open-air shopping center designed like a main street, opened there in 2005. The Firewheel area has newer subdivisions, townhomes and large apartment communities. Firewheel Golf Park is close by. Two things help a move here go faster:
- Reserve parking with the leasing office. At a big apartment community, ask for a spot next to your building and send us the gate or call-box instructions.
- Plan around the shopping traffic. Roads around the town center get crowded on holiday shopping days, so a morning start is usually smoother.
Lake Ray Hubbard and east Garland
On its east side, Garland runs to the shore of Lake Ray Hubbard, a reservoir of about 22,745 acres that the City of Dallas owns and manages. The lakeside neighborhoods have bigger lots, longer driveways and some homes on slopes down to the water. Furniture on patios, docks or a back deck usually means a longer carry, and the survey will tell us how much time to allow. I-30 runs along the south end of the lake, so getting to and from the east side is often quicker that way than through the middle of town.
Downtown Garland and the older neighborhoods
Downtown Garland centers on its historic square, the Granville Arts Center and the Downtown Garland DART station on the Blue Line. Newer apartments, such as Fifth Street Crossing, sit within walking distance of the trains. Older neighborhoods such as Club Hill and Eastern Hills have one-story houses on established streets with mature trees. On those streets, let us know if a car is usually parked at the curb or if a low tree hangs over the drive.
Two local notes for new residents. Garland Power and Light is the city's own electric utility, so you set up power with the city rather than choosing a retail provider. And Garland ISD has no attendance zones, so families apply to the schools they want. Parts of the city are in Richardson ISD and Mesquite ISD instead.
Moving services in Garland, TX: packing, crating and storage
We take apart and put back together bed frames, dining tables and other bolted furniture as part of the move, at no extra charge. Particleboard and flat-pack pieces stay assembled. Packing is an optional add-on with a separate price. You can have us pack everything, only the fragile items, or just the kitchen. Our packing and crating page describes each option, including crating for fragile pieces. If you need time between leases, our moving and storage page explains monthly storage at our Fort Worth warehouse.
Corporate relocation in Garland and office moves
Garland's biggest employers are Garland ISD and the City of Garland, and the city has a long manufacturing history: Kraft has run a plant here since after World War II, and Resistol has made hats in Garland since 1938. Wingstop also got its start here in 1994. If your company is paying for a move to or from Garland, we bill employers and relocation management companies directly, so no one has to pay out of pocket and file for reimbursement. We move offices on evenings and weekends for an extra charge, and we tell you that charge when you book. Our office movers page covers commercial moves, and our corporate relocation page explains how we handle employee transfers.
Moving out of state from Garland
Condor has its own interstate authority. That means the crew that loads your Garland home is the same crew that drives the truck and delivers to your new home. We don't hand the job to a broker or another mover. A move across state lines is priced and scheduled differently from a local move. It is priced by cubic feet, not hours, from $1,200 with a 200 cubic foot minimum, and your binding estimate is based on a room-by-room inventory. Because one trailer can carry several households, your estimate gives a delivery window instead of a single date. If you aren't ready for delivery, we can hold your shipment in storage in transit.
Moves within Texas, such as Garland to Houston, San Antonio or Austin, are still billed by the hour with a binding estimate. I-30 runs east from the Metroplex to Texarkana and Little Rock, so many Garland moves head east. We have route pages for Texas to Arkansas, Texas to Louisiana, Texas to Mississippi and Texas to Alabama. Our long-distance movers page lists every state.
Every interstate move runs under USDOT 1126171 and MC-458180. The federal booklet Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move comes with your estimate.
How our trucks get from Fort Worth to Garland
Each truck leaves 4009 E Loop 820 S, Fort Worth, TX 76119. For east and south Garland we usually go east on I-30 through Arlington and Dallas. For downtown and north Garland we take SH 183 and I-635, the LBJ Freeway, and use the Bush Turnpike to reach Firewheel. Typical times with no traffic:
- Lake Ray Hubbard shoreline (east Garland): about 46 miles, 60 minutes
- Downtown Garland: about 49 miles, 60 minutes
- Firewheel Town Center: about 55 miles, 65 minutes
LBJ and I-30 both back up through Dallas during rush hour, so we pick the route and start time that fit your address.

Garland movers FAQ
What do movers cost in Garland, TX?
Local moves cost $175 an hour for two movers and a truck, with a four-hour minimum that includes labor and the trip charge. Garland is farther from our yard than most of Fort Worth, so the trip charge can be more than one hour. Out-of-state moves are priced by cubic feet, starting at $1,200. You get a binding estimate for both.
Can you move me out of a third-floor apartment near Firewheel?
Yes. Tell us the floor, whether there is an elevator and where the truck can park. We plan the crew size and time around those details, and they show up in your estimate.
Do you move offices in Garland on evenings or weekends?
Yes. Office moves can be scheduled on evenings and weekends for an extra charge, and we tell you the amount when you book.
Can you handle a lake house on Lake Ray Hubbard?
Yes. We check the driveway, any slopes and patio or dock furniture during the survey, so the estimate includes the extra carrying time.
Will you bill my employer for a job transfer?
Yes. We bill employers and relocation management companies directly. Let us know who is paying when you request your estimate.
How do I get an estimate?
Most Garland customers do a short Zoom walkthrough. We can also quote by phone from an item list, or send a surveyor to your home.
When should I book movers in Garland?
Book at least two weeks ahead for local and long-distance moves. Summer and the last days of the month fill first, so book earlier for those dates.
