What it does not cover is packing. Putting dishes, clothes, décor and garage or attic items into boxes is always an add-on. You can have us do all of it (full pack), only some rooms (partial pack), or none.

The drive crosses Oklahoma, Kansas, a corner of Missouri and all of Iowa. It is roughly 985 miles from Fort Worth to Minneapolis and close to 1,180 from Houston. Rochester and Mankato are a little closer than the Twin Cities; Duluth and St. Cloud are farther.

Delivery Timing for Minnesota
Minnesota is one of the northern states where our standard delivery window is 1 to 21 business days, counted from the first day you can accept delivery. Build that range into your lease or closing dates.
Options that give you more control:
- Guaranteed pickup. We load on the day we book.
- Guaranteed delivery. Available for an additional charge if you need your things on a specific day.
- Storage in transit for gaps between move-out and move-in. Storage in transit is held in Texas, at our Fort Worth or Houston location. The first 30 days are free; after that, it's billed monthly.
Next-day delivery is only possible on dedicated trucks for destinations within about an 8-hour drive, so it doesn't apply to Minnesota.
Pricing a Minnesota Move
Every long-distance move at Condor is priced by the cubic foot. We measure the volume your furniture and boxes will fill on the truck, and multiply by your rate. That rate already includes the haul to Minnesota, so the trip isn't billed as a separate charge. Long-distance moves start at $1,200.
What else can appear on your estimate:
- Packing add-on (full or partial) and the boxes for it
- Wooden crates for glass, stone or art
- Extra carrying for stairs, elevators or long walks from the truck
- Storage in transit
- A smaller shuttle truck for a lake cabin or a narrow road up north (charged in addition to your estimate, from $450)
- Your coverage choice and a guaranteed delivery date, if you add them
Binding estimates. We put a binding estimate in writing. The number is settled before loading day. If items are added after the survey, the foreman revises the estimate in writing before anything is loaded, and you approve it first.
Survey options, in order of popularity: a Zoom video walk-through; a phone quote if you can give an accurate furniture list and box count (for a binding phone quote with no survey, you sign a written waiver of the survey); or an in-person visit, in the Dallas-Fort Worth area only.
Moving Into a Minnesota Winter
Minnesota winters are long, and moving in one is very doable with a little preparation.
Snow emergencies. When a big snow hits, Minneapolis and St. Paul declare snow emergencies with day-by-day parking rules so plows can clear the streets. In Minneapolis, Day 1 rules start at 9 p.m. on snow emergency routes, and Days 2 and 3 switch between the odd and even sides of other streets. A truck parked on the wrong side can block a plow and delay your delivery. If a snow emergency is declared for your delivery date, we'll work with you on timing and where the truck can stand.
Clear the path. Shovel the driveway and walk, and salt the steps. The crew carries heavy pieces over that path dozens of times.
Spring load limits. When the frost goes out of the ground each March, MnDOT posts seasonal load limits on many roads to protect them. In 2026 they started March 3 in the Twin Cities metro and southern zones and later farther north. Rural and township roads can stay restricted into May, which can affect how close a big truck gets to a lake place or farm.
Twin Cities Buildings and Neighborhoods
Downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul condo and apartment buildings usually require a reserved freight elevator, a set loading-dock time, and a certificate of insurance from the mover. Ask your building manager for the move-in rules as soon as you sign, and forward them to your consultant. In older neighborhoods like Linden Hills, Highland Park and Macalester-Groveland, homes have narrow stairways and tight basement access; show those on your video survey.
Rochester, Duluth and Outstate Minnesota
Rochester is home to Mayo Clinic, the city's largest employer, and new staff arrive from all over the country year-round. By road it's a little closer to Texas than the Twin Cities.
Duluth is at the north end of I-35 on Lake Superior, and the city climbs steeply up from the lake. Some streets are steep enough that a full-size truck can't park in front of the house. Send us photos.
Lake country around Brainerd and up north means gravel roads, tight driveways and seasonal load limits in spring.
Fall Calendar: State Fair and Move-In
The Minnesota State Fair runs for 12 days ending on Labor Day, at the fairgrounds in Falcon Heights between Minneapolis and St. Paul. Traffic around the fairgrounds and the nearby University of Minnesota St. Paul campus is heavy, and it overlaps with the U of M's late-August move-in. If you're headed to Dinkytown, Como or Falcon Heights in late August, pick dates on either side.
Cabins and Lake Homes
Minnesota calls itself the Land of 10,000 Lakes, and it actually has more than that. Lake homes and cabins in places like Brainerd, Alexandria and Detroit Lakes often sit at the end of narrow, wooded drives with tight turnarounds, and some roads to them are seasonal. If your move ends at a lake place, send us photos and a map pin. A smaller shuttle truck may be needed. Shuttle service is charged in addition to your estimate and starts at $450.
Utilities and Cold-Weather Setup
Xcel Energy provides electricity to most of the Twin Cities, and CenterPoint Energy supplies natural gas to much of the metro. Outside the cities, you may be on a municipal utility or a rural co-op. Get service started before the truck arrives; in winter, you want the furnace on before the crew begins opening doors.
What Texans Usually Need to Buy (and What to Leave)
A Texas household moving to Minnesota tends to arrive short on a few things and over-supplied on others:
- Winter gear. Real coats, boots and gloves. Pack them where you can reach them, or carry them in the car.
- A snow shovel and ice melt, if you're buying a house. You'll want them the first morning it snows, before stores sell out.
- Car items. An ice scraper and a winter emergency kit.
- What you can leave behind: some of the patio furniture, pool gear and yard equipment that gets year-round use in Texas sees four or five months of use in Minnesota. Selling it before the survey also lowers your cubic feet.
When electronics have spent a cold day in the truck, let them sit at room temperature for a few hours before you power them on, so any condensation can dry.

Your First 60 Days in Minnesota
