Grandfather Clock Movers
A grandfather clock looks sturdy and is not. The movement, the pendulum and the weights all have to come out and be secured before the case is touched, and clocks moved without that step are the ones that arrive silent. Condor has moved them across Texas since 2003.

Punctual, good and professional. Condor Moving System is my go-to moving guys now. Fairly priced for the level of professional moving service they provide to their customers. They were very good in communication to me and among themselves. I have had many bad experiences with multiple movers before it. Condor is the first ever company that I found nobody to complain about, which is maybe a pretty rare thing to say about relocators.Thomas C Davison
Movers did a great moving job even though it was a not smooth and it's a very long job. Best value for the money we spend. They stayed professional and were kind throughout the move process. They recognized my items and if I needed to change the things, they did it for me rapidly. Very friendly teamwork. Will surly use them again!Denis Tanney
These movers did a best job even though it was a tough and time taking job. Best value for the money it cost. Stayed professional and were helpful throughout the day of move. Honored my goods and if I required things changed they did it for me in little time. Very coordinated teamwork. Will definitely use them again for coming movers!Marks Josephine
The Damage Happens Inside the Case
A grandfather clock is a precision movement inside a tall wooden box, and the box is the part people worry about.
In practice the case usually survives. What does not is the movement — weights swinging on their cables, chains tangling in the works, a pendulum left hanging and knocking against the inside of the case for two hundred miles. Everything loose comes out and is wrapped and labelled before the clock is tilted even slightly, and the inside of the case is padded so nothing moves in transit.

Why Customers Call Us for Clocks
Choosing a mover isn't just about finding someone with a truck. You're trusting a company with nearly everything inside your home.
Prepared Before It Is Tilted
The clock is not moved at all until the weights, pendulum and chains are out and secured. That order is what keeps the movement intact.
Licensed for Texas & Interstate Moves
Condor operates under Texas and federal moving authority for local, intrastate and interstate relocations.
Local & Long-Distance Service
One company for moves across Texas, across Texas or across the country.
Packing & Storage Available
Add packing, specialty-item handling or storage when your move requires more than transportation.
A Texas Location
Condor has a Texas location with crews working the metro, rather than simply advertising moving services from another city.
Trucks & Crews Across Texas
Condor runs its own equipment and staffs crews throughout the state, so coverage isn't limited to a single metro or a single yard.
How a Grandfather Clock Is Prepared
A clock is prepared in a fixed order, and skipping a step is what causes the damage. All of this happens before the case leaves the wall.
| Step | What happens | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Remove the weights | Each weight taken off and wrapped individually, labelled left, centre and right | Weights swinging on cables destroy a movement |
| Secure the pendulum | Pendulum detached and wrapped separately | A hanging pendulum knocks against the case for the whole trip |
| Secure chains or cables | Chains tied off or cables secured so they cannot unwind | Tangled chains in the works mean a clocksmith, not a repair |
| Pad the interior | Blankets placed inside the case around the movement | Stops the movement flexing against the case |
| Protect the glass | Door and glass panels secured, bubble wrap over the face | Glass and bezels are the most commonly cracked parts |
| Wrap the case | Full case wrapped in moving pads over the bubble wrap | Protects a finish that marks easily |
| Transport upright | The clock travels standing and strapped, not laid down | Laying a clock down shifts the movement |
| Set in place | Placed in the room you designate and unwrapped | Setup and regulation are a clocksmith’s job |
| Original packaging | Used where you still have it, particularly for the weights | Nothing fits a clock better than what it came in |
Setting the clock running again — hanging the weights and pendulum, levelling the case and regulating the beat — is clocksmith work rather than moving work. Many owners do it themselves from the manual; if yours is valuable or temperamental, book someone for after the delivery.

Clocks and Timepieces We Move
Moving in Texas presents logistical challenges that aren't always obvious when requesting a quote. Building restrictions, truck access, traffic, weather and distance from the truck to your door can all affect moving time. Here's what we consider when planning a Texas move.
Grandfather & Longcase Clocks
Full-height cases, usually chain or cable driven with three weights. Everything loose comes out before the case is touched, and the clock travels upright and strapped rather than laid down.
Grandmother & Granddaughter Clocks
Shorter cases but the same movement and the same preparation. Being lighter makes them easier to carry and no easier to move safely.
Wall & Vienna Regulators
Wall-mounted movements with weights and a pendulum, usually older and more fragile than a floor clock. The mounting hardware is bagged and labelled with the clock.
Antique & Inherited Clocks
Older movements are more brittle and the cases are often veneered or inlaid. Tell us the age and anything you already know is delicate, and consider crating for a long-distance move.
Mantel & Carriage Clocks
Small enough to pack rather than move as furniture, but they still need the pendulum secured. These are packed into cartons with the movement blocked.
After the Delivery
Rehanging the weights and pendulum, levelling the case and regulating the beat is clocksmith work. Many owners do it from the manual; if the clock is valuable, book someone for afterwards.

Grandfather Clock Moving FAQ
How do you move a grandfather clock?
In a fixed order, and all of it before the case is tilted. Weights come off and are wrapped and labelled left, centre and right. The pendulum is detached and wrapped separately. Chains or cables are secured so they cannot tangle in the movement. The interior is padded with blankets, the glass protected, and the case wrapped in moving pads. The clock then travels upright and strapped rather than laid down.
Will the clock still work after the move?
It should, provided it was prepared properly. What stops a clock working is a movement damaged in transit by swinging weights or a tangled chain, and that is what the preparation prevents. Setting it running again — hanging the weights and pendulum, levelling the case and regulating the beat — is clocksmith work rather than moving work.
Do I need a clocksmith?
Not always. Many owners rehang the weights and pendulum themselves from the manual and set the beat by ear. If the clock is valuable, antique or has given trouble before, book a clocksmith for after the delivery rather than before.
Should I keep the original packaging?
Yes, particularly for the weights. Nothing protects them better than what they came in, and it saves wrapping three heavy brass cylinders in blankets. If you still have the original boxes or foam, have them out and ready on the day.
Can a grandfather clock be laid down for transport?
It should not be. Laying a clock down shifts the movement inside the case and puts weight on parts that are not designed to carry it. The clock travels upright and strapped. That is also why the route out matters — a low doorway or a turn in a stairwell is a genuine problem rather than an inconvenience.
Do you crate clocks for long-distance moves?
Custom wooden crating is available and is worth considering for an antique clock or a long haul. The crate is built to the case dimensions, so we need measurements or photographs to quote it.
Is Condor Moving Systems licensed and insured?
Yes. Condor Moving Systems operates under USDOT 1126171, MC 458180 and TxDMV 006041428C, and is a direct mover rather than a broker.
