Texas to Idaho Movers

Texas to Idaho Movers

Thousands of Texans have traded heat for the Treasure Valley in recent years, and the drive is a real one: about 1,565 road miles from Fort Worth to Boise and more than 1,800 from Houston. Condor Moving Systems has moved Texas households to other states since 2003. Our own crews load your home anywhere in Texas, and our own trucks carry it to Boise, Meridian and Nampa, to eastern Idaho around Idaho Falls and Pocatello, to the Magic Valley, and up to Coeur d'Alene in the panhandle.

When Your Shipment Reaches Idaho

Plan on 1 to 21 business days for standard delivery from Texas to Idaho, counted from the first day you can take delivery. Idaho is grouped with the northern mountain states, which get our longer window. Most shipments get there well inside that range, but set up your housing so the late end of the window wouldn't leave you stuck.

Ways to work with the window:

  • Your pickup day is fixed. Condor guarantees the date we load in Texas.
  • Need one exact delivery day? A guaranteed delivery date is available for an additional charge.
  • Keys not ready yet? Storage in transit holds your inventoried shipment until you are.
  • Drive the essentials yourself. Bedding, medicine, documents and a week of clothes belong in the car.

Next-day delivery only applies on dedicated trucks to places within about an 8-hour drive, so it isn't offered to Idaho.

Part of Every Idaho Move

  1. Furniture prep. The crew disassembles what has to come apart in your Texas house.
  2. Padding. Every piece of furniture is blanket-wrapped for the trip.
  3. Inventory. Each item gets a numbered tag, and you sign the inventory list before departure.
  4. Delivery and setup. Items go into the rooms you name, and anything we took apart gets reassembled.
  5. A consultant of your own, start to finish.
  6. Basic coverage. Released value protection pays 60 cents per pound per article; it is required by federal rules and is not insurance. Full value replacement is available through Baker International, not from Condor.

Packing is extra on every move. Pick a full pack, a partial pack for breakables, or pack it all yourself.

Texas to Idaho by Road

Most loads to southern Idaho leave Dallas-Fort Worth on US-287 toward Amarillo, run north through Colorado on I-25, turn west on I-80 across Wyoming and pick up I-84 near the Utah line for the final stretch into the Treasure Valley. Eastern Idaho moves leave I-80 in Wyoming and come in from the south toward Pocatello and Idaho Falls. Coeur d'Alene adds roughly another 250 miles north of Boise, much of it on two-lane US-95 through the mountains, so it's one of the longest deliveries we make.

From Houston, Austin and San Antonio

From Houston, Boise is about 1,830 road miles, and Coeur d'Alene is past 2,070. Austin and San Antonio loads, roughly 1,625 to 1,640 miles to Boise, usually head up I-35 or across to US-287 instead of taking the slower two-lane roads through the Panhandle. Pocatello and Idaho Falls are the closest Idaho cities to Texas, at about 1,330 to 1,345 miles from Fort Worth, because they sit just off the I-15 corridor from Utah. Twin Falls is in between, at about 1,445.

Three Regions, Two Time Zones

Southwest Idaho, the Boise–Meridian–Nampa area, is where most Texas moves end up. It's high desert at around 2,700 feet, hot and dry in summer, cold in winter, with less snow in town than many people expect.

Eastern Idaho, along I-15 from Pocatello through Idaho Falls to Rexburg, is higher and colder, and winter wind on the Snake River Plain is no joke.

North Idaho, from Coeur d'Alene and Post Falls up to Sandpoint, is on Pacific Time, while the rest of the state uses Mountain Time. When you schedule a panhandle delivery, confirm which clock the crew is working on.

Punctual, good and professional. Condor Moving System is my go-to moving guys now. Fairly priced for the level of professional moving service they provide to their customers. They were very good in communication to me and among themselves. I have had many bad experiences with multiple movers before it. Condor is the first ever company that I found nobody to complain about, which is maybe a pretty rare thing to say about relocators.

Movers did a great moving job even though it was a not smooth and it's a very long job. Best value for the money we spend. They stayed professional and were kind throughout the move process. They recognized my items and if I needed to change the things, they did it for me rapidly. Very friendly teamwork. Will surly use them again!

Pricing an Idaho Move

A Idaho move is priced per cubic foot, meaning the space your belongings take up on our truck. Your rate for the route already includes the miles, so there's no extra line for distance. Long-distance moves start at $1,200.

Ways to bring the cubic feet down:

  • Take a hard look at patio sets, extra fridges and garage shelving before the survey; on a 1,500-mile run they cost real money to haul.
  • Many newer homes in Meridian and Eagle have three-car garages, but older Boise neighborhoods like the North End have small rooms. Measure first.
  • Pack books, linens and closets yourself and leave the fragile rooms to the crew.

Your estimate may also list packing, boxes, crates, stair or elevator carries, a shuttle, storage in transit, Baker coverage, or a guaranteed delivery date.

Why the estimate doesn't drift

Every estimate we write is binding. The only way it changes is if your shipment changes, and then the foreman puts the revision in writing before loading starts, and you sign off on it before anything is carried out.

Before the estimate

Your consultant needs to see or hear what's going. The easiest way is a Zoom walk-through. If you'd rather, give us a careful room-by-room list by phone and sign a survey waiver, and the quote can still be binding. In-person surveys happen in Dallas-Fort Worth only.

Hillsides, Long Driveways and Shuttles

Foothill homes above Boise, lake properties around Coeur d'Alene and Sandpoint, and mountain houses near McCall often sit on steep or narrow drives where a full-length trailer can't turn around. In those cases we transfer the load to a smaller truck for the last stretch. Show the street and driveway on your video survey so we can plan it in advance. Shuttle service is charged in addition to your estimate and starts at $450.

Planning and Paperwork

Give us at least two weeks' notice for a Idaho move; earlier is better in summer. Call during office hours, Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM CT. If your employer or a relocation company is paying, we bill them directly.

Universities, Air Base and Utilities

Boise State, the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho State in Pocatello and BYU–Idaho in Rexburg all hire and enroll from out of state. BYU–Idaho's semester starts bring heavy rental turnover to Rexburg.

Mountain Home Air Force Base, about 50 miles southeast of Boise, is the state's largest military installation. We do PPM moves (service member arranges, government reimburses), retiree moves and government-arranged shipments. If your orders call for certified weight tickets, we provide them; that's the only kind of move we weigh.

For power, Idaho Power covers most of southern Idaho, Avista serves much of the north, and Rocky Mountain Power serves parts of eastern Idaho. Intermountain Gas supplies natural gas in many southern Idaho towns.

Moving to Boise From Texas: What Surprises People

Boise is spread out, but many neighborhoods have quirks. The North End and East End have older homes on small lots with narrow alleys, while Meridian, Kuna and Star are full of new subdivisions with HOA rules about where a truck can park and for how long. Ask for those rules early. Many Treasure Valley homes also have irrigation water shared through a ditch or pressurized system; your title company or HOA can tell you how it's billed.

Winters are colder than anything most Texans are used to, though Boise usually gets modest snow. Inversions can trap smoke or fog in the valley for days. Eastern Idaho is a different story, with harder winters and more wind; a delivery to Idaho Falls or Rexburg between December and February deserves extra flexibility. In every region, a cleared driveway and a confirmed parking spot make the crew's day faster.

Idaho DMV: 30 Days

Idaho gives new residents 30 days to switch to an Idaho driver's license and to title and register their vehicles. Driver's licenses are handled at county sheriff's offices or online for eligible transfers, and vehicle titles and plates through the county assessor's motor vehicle office. Plates can take several weeks to arrive by mail. See the Idaho Transportation Department's new-to-Idaho guide.

When you title an out-of-state vehicle in Idaho, the county office will usually want a VIN inspection, which can be done at many sheriff's offices or dealerships. Parts of the Treasure Valley have required emissions testing for some vehicles, so check the current rule for your county before you register. Idaho has a state income tax and a sales tax, so it's a change from Texas on one side of the ledger. Register to vote with your new address once you have an Idaho license.

Texas to Idaho FAQ

Why is delivery to Idaho 1 to 21 business days?

Idaho is one of the northern mountain states, where deliveries from Texas take longer than to the states closer in. Most shipments arrive well inside the window. If you need one exact day, add a guaranteed delivery date for an extra charge.

Do you charge by the mile?

No. We price by cubic foot, and the haul to Idaho is already in that rate. Long-distance moves start at $1,200.

Is your estimate binding?

Yes. Condor writes binding estimates only. If your inventory changes, the foreman revises the estimate in writing before loading, for your approval.

Is north Idaho really on a different time zone?

Yes. The panhandle, including Coeur d'Alene and Sandpoint, uses Pacific Time. Southern Idaho, including Boise, uses Mountain Time. We confirm delivery times in your local clock.

Where is storage in transit kept?

In Texas, at our Fort Worth or Houston location. It's free for the first 30 days and billed monthly after that.

What happens if something is damaged?

Our team helps you through the claim. Start on our file a claim page; you have 9 months from delivery to file.

Will you put my beds back together?

Yes. Basic disassembly in Texas and reassembly at delivery are part of every move.
