Texas to Mississippi Movers
Every move from Texas to Mississippi crosses the Mississippi River somewhere, usually on the I-20 bridge at Vicksburg or by way of Memphis farther north. What happens after the river depends on which Mississippi you're moving to: the Gulf Coast, the Jackson metro, the Pine Belt or the college towns of north Mississippi. Four Regions, Four Kinds of Move
The Gulf Coast. Gulfport, Biloxi, Ocean Springs, Long Beach and Bay St. Louis. Many homes here were built or rebuilt after Hurricane Katrina to sit higher off the ground, so stairs up to the main floor are common. Keesler Air Force Base is in Biloxi.
The capital area. Jackson, Madison, Ridgeland, Brandon, Flowood and Clinton. Expect a mix of older Jackson neighborhoods with mature trees over the street and newer subdivisions in Madison and Rankin counties with HOA rules.
The Pine Belt. Hattiesburg and Petal, home to the University of Southern Mississippi, with Camp Shelby just south of town.
North Mississippi. Oxford (Ole Miss), Starkville (Mississippi State), Tupelo, Columbus, and the DeSoto County suburbs of Memphis such as Southaven, Olive Branch and Hernando.
Routes From Texas
From Dallas–Fort Worth, I-20 heads east through Shreveport and Monroe in Louisiana, crosses the river at Vicksburg, and reaches Jackson about 45 minutes later. Meridian is another 90 miles east on I-20.
From Houston, trucks take I-10 across south Louisiana to the Coast, or head up through Louisiana toward Natchez and Jackson.
North Mississippi is usually reached through Arkansas on I-30 and I-40 to Memphis, then south on I-55 or east on I-22.
One road we never use: the Natchez Trace Parkway. The National Park Service bans commercial vehicles, including moving trucks carrying household goods, on the entire parkway. If your new home sits just off the Trace near Ridgeland, Tupelo or Natchez, the truck comes in by a public road.
Delivery Timing
Mississippi delivery runs 1 to 10 business days from the first day you can receive your shipment. A guaranteed delivery date can be added for an additional charge.
Next-day delivery on a dedicated truck is available when the drive is within about 8 hours. In Mississippi that means Vicksburg from Dallas–Fort Worth and Natchez from Houston. Jackson, the Coast, Hattiesburg and north Mississippi are close to or past 8 hours from both of our locations, so they run on the standard window.

We price Mississippi moves by the cubic foot, based on the space your belongings fill on the truck. The rate for your route already includes the drive, so no distance line appears on your estimate. Long-distance moves start at $1,200.

Your estimate is binding. The written price covers the inventory on the estimate. Should the inventory grow, the foreman revises it in writing and you approve before loading.
Getting a quote: most customers book a Zoom video survey and walk us through the house on a phone. We can also quote by phone when you can give an accurate item list and box count. For a binding phone quote with no video or in-person survey, you sign a written waiver of the survey. An in-person survey is available only in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Weather on the Coast and Inland
Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30. If a storm is forecast for the Gulf Coast around your moving dates, we'll work with you on a new date rather than deliver into evacuation traffic or flooding.
Spring severe weather reaches well inland. Central and north Mississippi see tornado warnings from March through May, and again in late fall. We pause loading and unloading while a warning is active.
Summer heat and humidity are hard on people more than furniture. An early start in the day helps, and so does having the air conditioning running at the new house before the crew arrives.
Older Southern Homes, the Delta and the River Towns
Historic homes in Natchez, Vicksburg and Columbus
These river and prairie towns have some of the oldest houses in the state, many from before the Civil War, with tall ceilings, narrow staircases, pocket doors and tight turns at the landing. Antique armoires, sideboards and four-poster beds are common on these moves too. Pieces that are fragile or too tall for a staircase may need crating or extra hands. Show us the staircase and the biggest pieces on your Zoom survey so the plan fits the house.
The Mississippi Delta
From Greenville and Cleveland to Clarksdale, the Delta is flat farmland with long distances between towns. Farmhouses can sit well off the highway on gravel turn rows. During planting and harvest, slow farm equipment shares the two-lane highways. Send a map pin with your quote request so we can check the approach. If a full trailer can't reach the house, a smaller shuttle truck finishes the trip. Shuttle service is charged in addition to your estimate and starts at $450.
DeSoto County, south of Memphis
Southaven, Olive Branch, Hernando and Horn Lake are Mississippi addresses in the Memphis metro. They're priced and handled as Mississippi moves, but the truck usually comes in through Memphis. If your new home is close to the state line, double-check which state the address is in. It matters for the paperwork.
Keesler, Columbus, Meridian and Camp Shelby
Mississippi has a steady flow of military moves:

- Columbus Air Force Base, near Columbus in the Golden Triangle
- Naval Air Station Meridian, northeast of Meridian
- Camp Shelby, south of Hattiesburg, a National Guard training site
- Naval Construction Battalion Center, Gulfport, home of the Seabees on the Gulf Coast
Base access is arranged ahead of time with crew names, IDs and truck details. Weight tickets only apply to military moves, and we can provide them when your military move needs them. We handle PPM moves (you arrange the move and the government reimburses you), retiree moves and government-arranged shipments.
Ole Miss, Mississippi State and USM
Oxford and Starkville both see heavy apartment turnover in late July and early August, plus another round in May. Southern Miss in Hattiesburg follows a similar pattern. On fall football Saturdays, the Grove in Oxford and the roads around Davis Wade Stadium in Starkville are packed from morning on, so we don't schedule campus-area deliveries those days if we can avoid it.
New Resident Rules in Mississippi
- You have 60 days after moving to get a Mississippi driver's license.
- Register your vehicle and get a Mississippi tag within 30 days if it has current registration from Texas. Late registration carries penalties.
- Tags are handled by your county tax collector.

Common Questions About Moving to Mississippi
How long will delivery take?
Most Mississippi deliveries arrive within 1 to 10 business days of your first available day. Vicksburg (from DFW) and Natchez (from Houston) can be delivered next day on a dedicated truck. You can also pay extra for a guaranteed delivery date.
Is the price based on how far I'm going?
Not as a separate charge. We price by the cubic foot, and the rate for your route covers the drive. Long-distance moves start at $1,200.
Why can't you take the Natchez Trace?
Federal rules for the parkway prohibit commercial vehicles hauling household goods. We use I-20, I-55, I-22 and state highways instead.
My house on the Coast is up a full flight of stairs. Is that a problem?
No, but tell us when you book. Stairs change how many movers we send and how long the unload takes.
Is my shipment run over a truck scale?
No. Household moves are priced by cubic feet. If you're on a military move that needs weight tickets, we can provide them.
Can you store my belongings until I close on a house in Madison?
Yes. Storage in transit holds your tagged shipment until delivery. Storage in transit is held in Texas, at our Fort Worth or Houston location. The first 30 days are free; after that, it's billed monthly.
What coverage do I get?
Released value protection is included on every move at no extra charge. It's the carrier's basic liability under federal rules, 60 cents per pound per article, and it's moving coverage, not insurance. Full value replacement, which covers repair, replacement or a cash settlement, is available through Baker International; Condor doesn't sell full value protection itself. Written claims can be filed for nine months after delivery, and we help you through the process.
Do I have to be home for a survey?
You'll need to be home for the Zoom walk-through, but no one has to come over. A phone quote is another option if you can list your furniture and boxes accurately.
