Texas to Rhode Island Movers
The smallest state is still one of our longer trips: about 1,760 road miles from Fort Worth to Providence and 1,810 from Houston. Condor Moving Systems has moved Texas families to other states since 2003, using our own trucks and our own crews from Fort Worth and Houston. We pick up anywhere in Texas and deliver to Providence, Warwick, Cranston, East Greenwich, Newport, Narragansett, Westerly and the rest of Rhode Island.

Rhode Island Delivery Window
The standard delivery window from Texas to Rhode Island is 1 to 21 business days, and it begins on the first day you're available to receive. Rhode Island is one of our New England states, which carry the longer window. Plenty of loads land early in the window; just don't build your plans around that.
What you can lock in: the pickup date, which we guarantee, and, if you add it for an extra charge, a guaranteed delivery date. What you can fall back on: storage in transit, so the truck doesn't have to wait on your closing. What you should carry with you: anything you'd need in the first week.
Because Rhode Island sits far past an 8-hour drive from Texas, next-day delivery on a dedicated truck isn't an option here.
Triple-Deckers and Tight Streets
Providence, Pawtucket and Central Falls are full of triple-deckers, three-family houses with a separate apartment on each floor and steep back stairs. Many streets on the East Side and in Federal Hill are narrow, with cars parked on both sides. A tractor-trailer may not fit on the block, and you may need a parking permit from the city. In those cases, we'll plan for a longer carry or a smaller shuttle truck. Shuttle service is charged in addition to your estimate and starts at $450.
Show the street, the front door and every stairway on your video survey so we can plan the right crew and equipment.
What Every Rhode Island Move Includes
The base price for a Texas to Rhode Island move covers the following:
- Taking apart furniture that needs it, then putting it back together in Rhode Island
- Blanket wrap on every piece of furniture
- Inventory stickers and a signed inventory sheet at origin
- Unloading into the rooms you choose
- A single moving consultant as your contact throughout
- Released value protection at 60 cents per pound per article, the federal minimum. This is moving coverage, not an insurance policy. For more, Baker International offers Full value replacement; we don't sell it ourselves.
Not in the base price: packing. Packing by our crew is always added separately, either full or partial, and you're welcome to pack your own boxes instead.
Texas to Rhode Island
From Dallas-Fort Worth, trucks headed for Rhode Island usually take I-30 and I-40 to Tennessee, I-81 north through Virginia and Pennsylvania, then I-84 across New York and Connecticut toward Hartford and on to Providence. Newport and Aquidneck Island are reached by bridge from Route 138 or Route 24. Trucks don't use the Merritt Parkway or the other Connecticut and New York parkways, which ban commercial vehicles, so loads stay on I-95, I-84 and I-91. Houston departures typically run east on I-10 and north on I-59 and I-75.

Trusted by Texas Families Since 2003
Punctual, good and professional. Condor Moving System is my go-to moving guys now. Fairly priced for the level of professional moving service they provide to their customers. They were very good in communication to me and among themselves. I have had many bad experiences with multiple movers before it. Condor is the first ever company that I found nobody to complain about, which is maybe a pretty rare thing to say about relocators.
Movers did a great moving job even though it was a not smooth and it's a very long job. Best value for the money we spend. They stayed professional and were kind throughout the move process. They recognized my items and if I needed to change the things, they did it for me rapidly. Very friendly teamwork. Will surly use them again!
These movers did a best job even though it was a tough and time taking job. Best value for the money it cost. Stayed professional and were helpful throughout the day of move. Honored my goods and if I required things changed they did it for me in little time. Very coordinated teamwork. Will definitely use them again for coming movers!
Newport and Naval Station Newport
Naval Station Newport, home to the Naval War College and other Navy commands, brings military families to Aquidneck Island year-round. Military moves we handle include PPMs, where you arrange the move and get reimbursed, retiree moves and government-arranged shipments, with certified weight tickets when the move requires them. Civilian moves are priced by cubic foot and aren't weighed.
Newport's historic neighborhoods have narrow streets, and summer brings heavy tourist traffic, especially in July and August and during sailing and music events. Plan an off-season or weekday delivery if you can.
Costs for a Rhode Island Move
A Rhode Island move is priced per cubic foot, meaning the space your belongings take up on our truck. Your rate for the route already includes the miles, so there's no extra line for distance. Long-distance moves start at $1,200.
Ways to bring the cubic feet down:
- Providence triple-deckers and older Newport homes have tight stairs; measure big pieces.
- Leave behind outdoor furniture you won't use in a New England winter.
- Pack the easy rooms yourself and leave fragile ones to the crew.
Your estimate may also list packing, boxes, crates, stair or elevator carries, a shuttle, storage in transit, Baker coverage, or a guaranteed delivery date.
Why the estimate doesn't drift
Every estimate we write is binding. The only way it changes is if your shipment changes, and then the foreman puts the revision in writing before loading starts, and you sign off on it before anything is carried out.
Before the estimate
Your consultant needs to see or hear what's going. The easiest way is a Zoom walk-through. If you'd rather, give us a careful room-by-room list by phone and sign a survey waiver, and the quote can still be binding. In-person surveys happen in Dallas-Fort Worth only.
Universities and Utilities
Brown University, Providence College, the Rhode Island School of Design and Johnson & Wales in Providence and the University of Rhode Island in Kingston all bring in faculty and staff. Late August and early September are the busiest weeks for rentals around College Hill and Kingston.
Rhode Island Energy supplies electricity and gas to most of the state. Many towns run transfer stations or curbside pickup; check with your city or town hall.
Preparing for a Rhode Island Delivery
Coastal homes in Narragansett, Westerly and Jamestown are often on narrow roads, and summer brings heavy beach traffic. In winter, nor'easters can bring heavy snow and wind; keep the driveway clear and allow some flexibility.
Apartment and condo buildings in downtown Providence usually require an elevator reservation, loading dock time and a certificate of insurance. Send them to your consultant a week before delivery.

Choosing Where to Live in Rhode Island
Providence's East Side, around Brown and RISD, has older homes and walkable streets, while Federal Hill, Elmhurst and Mount Pleasant have more triple-deckers and single-family houses. Barrington, East Greenwich and Lincoln are popular suburbs with strong schools, and Cranston and Warwick offer a mix of housing close to the airport and I-95.
On Aquidneck Island, Newport has historic homes on narrow streets, while Middletown and Portsmouth have more space and easier access for Navy families. South County, including Narragansett, South Kingstown and Westerly, has beach houses and year-round homes near URI. Jamestown, reached by bridge, is small and quiet. Wherever you're moving, Rhode Island's distances are short, but traffic on I-95 and the bridges can be heavy, especially in summer and at rush hour.

Rhode Island DMV: 30 Days
Rhode Island gives new residents 30 days to get a Rhode Island driver's license and to register and title their vehicles. You'll need Rhode Island insurance and a VIN check, and the vehicle must pass a state inspection within five days of registration. See the Rhode Island DMV new-resident page.
Rhode Island has a state income tax and a sales tax. Register to vote when you get your license.
Rhode Island cities and towns also charge a motor vehicle excise tax in some places, so ask your town hall about local car taxes. Set up Rhode Island Energy service, internet and trash pickup before the truck arrives, and if you're moving into a triple-decker, ask the owner how parking works on moving day.

Texas to Rhode Island FAQ
When will the truck get to Rhode Island?
Within 1 to 21 business days of the first day you can accept delivery. Rhode Island is in New England, which we schedule with the longer window. If timing is critical, a guaranteed delivery date can be added for an extra charge.
Is the distance to Rhode Island billed separately?
No. The per-cubic-foot rate already includes the trip. Long-distance moves start at $1,200.
Can you move us into a Providence triple-decker?
Yes. Show us the stairs on your survey. If the truck can't park close, we plan a longer carry or a shuttle truck.
Do you offer storage?
Storage in transit, at our Fort Worth or Houston location. The first 30 days cost nothing; after that, storage is billed monthly.
Do I need to take my furniture apart?
No. Basic disassembly and reassembly is included on every Condor move.
What if I add items after the survey?
The foreman writes up the change to your binding estimate before loading begins. Nothing is loaded until you approve it.
Is there a deadline for claims?
Yes: 9 months from delivery. Use our file a claim page, and our team will walk you through it.
