Texas to Maine Movers

Texas to Maine Movers

Maine is the farthest point on the East Coast from Texas, and it's one of our longest routes: about 1,895 road miles from Fort Worth to Portland and more than 2,200 from Houston to Presque Isle in Aroostook County. Condor Moving Systems has moved Texans to other states since 2003, with our own trucks and our own crews from Fort Worth and Houston. We load anywhere in Texas and deliver to Portland, Brunswick, Lewiston, Augusta, Bangor, Bar Harbor and the rest of the state.

How Long Delivery to Maine Takes

Standard delivery to Maine takes 1 to 21 business days. The clock starts on the first date you tell us you're able to receive the shipment, not the day we load. Maine is our longest East Coast delivery, so it carries the longer window.

We guarantee the pickup date. If a closing, a lease or a first day at work means you need the truck on one specific day at your Maine address, ask for a guaranteed delivery date; it's an extra charge, and many people decide it's worth it. If the opposite problem comes up and your new place isn't ready, storage in transit keeps everything on its original inventory until you call for delivery.

Maine is well beyond the roughly 8-hour drive that our dedicated next-day service covers, so the standard window applies to every move on this route.

Included in Every Maine Move

Every Condor move to Maine comes with these, at no added line on the estimate:

  1. Basic disassembly and reassembly of furniture
  2. Furniture pads on every piece
  3. Tagging and a written inventory you sign in Texas
  4. Unloading and placement room by room
  5. A dedicated consultant
  6. Released value protection: 60 cents per pound per article, the minimum federal rules call for. It's moving coverage and not insurance. If you want more, Full value replacement is offered through Baker International; Condor doesn't sell it in-house.

One thing that is never in the base price: packing. Full or partial packing is an add-on, or you can box everything yourself.

Texas to Maine

Maine loads from Dallas-Fort Worth usually run I-30 and I-40 to Tennessee, I-81 north through Virginia and Pennsylvania, I-84 through New York and Connecticut, and then I-90 and I-495 through Massachusetts to I-95 and the Maine Turnpike. Portland, Brunswick, Lewiston and Augusta sit along the turnpike and I-295; Bangor is farther up I-95, and Bar Harbor and Presque Isle are hours beyond that on US highways. Trucks don't use the Merritt Parkway or the other Connecticut and New York parkways, which ban commercial vehicles, so loads stay on I-95, I-84 and I-91. Houston departures run east on I-10 and north on I-59 and I-75.

Maine Lanes by Texas City

Dallas to Portland, Maine, is about 1,860 miles, around 35 hours of driving. Houston is about 1,940 miles from Portland and 2,070 from Bangor. Austin runs about 2,055 miles, and San Antonio about 2,135 to Portland and 2,265 to Bangor, the longest lane on this page. Bar Harbor is about 2,050 miles from Fort Worth, and Presque Isle, in Aroostook County near the Canadian border, about 2,175.

Coast, Islands and Long Drives

Maine's coast is beautiful and hard on big trucks. Peninsula towns like Boothbay Harbor, Camden and Bar Harbor sit at the end of long, narrow roads, and many homes are on private gravel drives. Island homes are reached by ferry, which a moving truck generally can't board; ask us early how we'd handle an island delivery. When a full-size truck can't reach the house, we use a smaller shuttle truck. Shuttle service is charged in addition to your estimate and starts at $450.

Summer traffic on US-1 along the coast is heavy from July through Labor Day. A weekday delivery helps.

Punctual, good and professional. Condor Moving System is my go-to moving guys now. Fairly priced for the level of professional moving service they provide to their customers. They were very good in communication to me and among themselves. I have had many bad experiences with multiple movers before it. Condor is the first ever company that I found nobody to complain about, which is maybe a pretty rare thing to say about relocators.

Movers did a great moving job even though it was a not smooth and it's a very long job. Best value for the money we spend. They stayed professional and were kind throughout the move process. They recognized my items and if I needed to change the things, they did it for me rapidly. Very friendly teamwork. Will surly use them again!

Pricing a Move to Maine

Condor prices every long-distance move by the cubic foot. The survey measures how much truck space your household needs, and the per-cubic-foot rate already covers the haul from Texas to Maine; distance isn't billed separately. Long-distance moves start at $1,200.

Because size drives the total, these help most:

  • Older Maine capes and farmhouses have small rooms and steep stairs; measure.
  • Leave outdoor furniture you won't use for half the year.
  • Pack books and clothing yourself and leave fragile rooms to the crew.

Other lines that can appear: packing and materials, crating, stairs or elevators, a shuttle truck, storage in transit, extra coverage and a guaranteed delivery date.

A binding number

The estimate you sign is binding. Add or drop items after the survey and the foreman writes up the change on moving day, before the crew loads, for you to approve first. There is no surprise total after delivery.

The survey

We quote from a video survey on Zoom, from a phone call with your list of furniture and boxes (you sign a written survey waiver to make a phone quote binding), or, inside the Dallas-Fort Worth area only, from an in-person visit.

Winter, Mud Season and Rural Roads

Maine winters are long, with snow from December into March, and nor'easters can close roads for a day. Keep the driveway plowed, and move anything that can freeze in your car. In spring, many towns post weight limits on local roads during mud season, and a full-size truck may not be allowed until they're lifted.

Much of rural Maine has no curbside trash pickup, and many homes use a well, a septic system and propane, heating oil or wood heat. Ask the previous owner which companies deliver.

Military, Colleges and Utilities

Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery and Bath Iron Works in Bath bring military and defense families to southern and midcoast Maine. Military moves we handle include PPMs, where you arrange the move and get reimbursed, retiree moves and government-arranged shipments, with certified weight tickets when the move requires them. Civilian moves are priced by cubic foot and aren't weighed.

The University of Maine in Orono, Bowdoin in Brunswick, Bates in Lewiston and Colby in Waterville hire faculty and staff every year.

Central Maine Power serves southern and central Maine, and Versant Power serves the Bangor area and northern Maine. Maine also has a bottle deposit on most beverage containers.

Portland and Southern Maine

Portland's peninsula neighborhoods, like the West End and Munjoy Hill, have narrow streets, older multi-family homes and steep stairs. Parking is tight, and some blocks can't take a tractor-trailer. Cape Elizabeth, Falmouth, Scarborough and Yarmouth have larger homes with easier access. Send photos and any building rules to your consultant.

Old Orchard Beach, Ogunquit and the Kennebunks fill up in summer, so plan an off-season or weekday delivery if you can.

Booking a Maine Move

Condor Moving Systems is a Woman-Owned moving company. Our office is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM CT, and we hold interstate authority under USDOT 1126171 and MC-458180, with TxDMV 006041428C for moves inside Texas.

  • Book at least two weeks ahead. A long run to Maine needs a truck and crew set aside, and more notice gives you more dates to pick from.
  • Moving for work? We bill employers and relocation management companies directly, so your company can pay us without you fronting the cost.

Choosing Where to Live in Maine

Greater Portland is where most of Maine's jobs are, and South Portland, Cape Elizabeth, Falmouth, Cumberland, Yarmouth and Scarborough are popular with families. Portland itself has older homes on the peninsula, apartments and condos, and newer neighborhoods off the peninsula. Southern Maine, from Kittery to the Kennebunks, draws Portsmouth Naval Shipyard workers and commuters to New Hampshire and Boston.

Brunswick, home to Bowdoin, and Bath, home to Bath Iron Works, anchor the midcoast, while Camden and Rockland attract retirees. Lewiston-Auburn and Augusta have lower home prices. Bangor is the hub for central and northern Maine, and Bar Harbor and the Down East coast are scenic but remote. Aroostook County, at the top of the state, is the most rural, with long winters and long drives between towns. Many Maine homes are older capes and farmhouses, often with steep stairs and small rooms.
