Texas to Massachusetts Movers

Texas to Massachusetts Movers

Boston is about 1,790 road miles from Fort Worth and 1,840 from Houston, and moves there usually follow a job at a hospital, university or tech firm. Condor Moving Systems has moved Texas households to other states since 2003, with our own trucks and our own crews from Fort Worth and Houston. We pick up anywhere in Texas and deliver to Boston and its suburbs, Cambridge, Worcester, Springfield, the Berkshires and Cape Cod.

Massachusetts Delivery Timing

The standard delivery window from Texas to Massachusetts is 1 to 21 business days, and it begins on the first day you're available to receive. Massachusetts is one of our New England states, which carry the longer window. Plenty of loads land early in the window; just don't build your plans around that.

What you can lock in: the pickup date, which we guarantee, and, if you add it for an extra charge, a guaranteed delivery date. What you can fall back on: storage in transit, so the truck doesn't have to wait on your closing. What you should carry with you: anything you'd need in the first week.

Because Massachusetts sits far past an 8-hour drive from Texas, next-day delivery on a dedicated truck isn't an option here.

Texas to Massachusetts

Most loads from Dallas-Fort Worth run I-30 and I-40 to Tennessee, I-81 north through Virginia and Pennsylvania, then I-84 through New York and Connecticut to the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) and into Worcester and Boston. Western Massachusetts is reached on I-90 or I-91. Cape Cod deliveries cross the Cape Cod Canal on the Bourne or Sagamore bridges. Trucks don't use the Merritt Parkway or the other Connecticut and New York parkways, which ban commercial vehicles, so loads stay on I-95, I-84 and I-91. Houston departures run east on I-10 and north on I-59 and I-75.

Massachusetts Lanes by Origin

Dallas to Boston is about 1,760 miles, around 33 hours of driving. Houston is about 1,840 miles. Austin runs about 1,955 miles, and San Antonio about 2,035, the longest of our Massachusetts lanes. Springfield and the Berkshires are the closest, at about 1,720 miles from Fort Worth. Worcester is about 1,755 miles, and Hyannis on Cape Cod about 1,835. Lowell and the Merrimack Valley are reached on I-495.

September 1 in Boston

In Boston, Cambridge and Somerville, most leases end on August 31 and begin on September 1. Thousands of people move at once, streets fill with trucks and furniture on the curb, and parking is close to impossible. If your move lands near September 1, book early, and if you can, choose a delivery date a week or two before or after.

Any time of year, Boston requires a street occupancy permit to reserve curb space for a moving truck, and the city posts temporary no-parking signs. Ask your landlord or condo association whether they handle it. We'll work with the permit window you have.

Every Massachusetts Move Includes

The base price for a Texas to Massachusetts move covers the following:

  • Taking apart furniture that needs it, then putting it back together in Massachusetts
  • Blanket wrap on every piece of furniture
  • Inventory stickers and a signed inventory sheet at origin
  • Unloading into the rooms you choose
  • A single moving consultant as your contact throughout
  • Released value protection at 60 cents per pound per article, the federal minimum. This is moving coverage, not an insurance policy. For more, Baker International offers Full value replacement; we don't sell it ourselves.

Not in the base price: packing. Packing by our crew is always added separately, either full or partial, and you're welcome to pack your own boxes instead.

Punctual, good and professional. Condor Moving System is my go-to moving guys now. Fairly priced for the level of professional moving service they provide to their customers. They were very good in communication to me and among themselves. I have had many bad experiences with multiple movers before it. Condor is the first ever company that I found nobody to complain about, which is maybe a pretty rare thing to say about relocators.

Movers did a great moving job even though it was a not smooth and it's a very long job. Best value for the money we spend. They stayed professional and were kind throughout the move process. They recognized my items and if I needed to change the things, they did it for me rapidly. Very friendly teamwork. Will surly use them again!

Storrow Drive, Narrow Streets and Shuttles

Storrow Drive and Memorial Drive along the Charles River have low overpasses and ban trucks, and every year some rental truck drivers find out the hard way. Our drivers know the restrictions and plan around them.

Beacon Hill, the North End, the South End and parts of Cambridge and Somerville have streets too narrow for a full-size trailer. In those cases, we may transfer the shipment to a smaller shuttle truck. Shuttle service is charged in addition to your estimate and starts at $450.

Pricing a Move to Massachusetts

Long-distance pricing at Condor is per cubic foot. The survey tells us the volume, the per-cubic-foot rate already has the drive to Massachusetts built in, and the two together give you the transportation cost. Long-distance moves start at $1,200.

The volume is what you control:

  • Boston and Cambridge apartments are small; measure everything before the survey.
  • Sell large furniture that won't fit a triple-decker stairway.
  • Pack books and clothing yourself, and leave fragile items to the crew.

Separate lines, if they apply, cover packing and materials, crates, stairs or elevators, a shuttle, storage in transit, added coverage and a guaranteed delivery date.

Binding estimates only

Condor writes binding estimates, so your price is set before the move. If your inventory changes after the survey, the foreman revises the estimate in writing before loading, and nothing goes on the truck until you've approved it.

Three ways to get your estimate

A Zoom survey is the usual choice: you show each room on video. We can also price the move over the phone from a detailed list of furniture and boxes, and in that case you sign a waiver of the survey so the estimate can be binding. Customers in Dallas-Fort Worth can ask for an in-person survey; that option isn't offered elsewhere.

Military, Universities and Hospitals

Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford and Joint Base Cape Cod bring military families to Massachusetts. Condor handles PPM moves, where the service member arranges the move and is reimbursed by the government, plus retiree moves and government-arranged shipments. Certified weight tickets are available on military moves; we don't weigh trucks on any other kind of move.

Harvard, MIT, Boston University, Northeastern, Tufts, UMass and dozens of other schools hire faculty and staff from out of state, as do the hospitals in Boston's Longwood Medical Area. When an employer or relocation company is paying, we bill them directly.

Utilities and Practical Details

Eversource and National Grid supply electricity and gas to most of Massachusetts, and some towns have their own municipal electric companies. Many buildings in Boston have strict elevator reservations, moving hours and certificate-of-insurance requirements. Send those to your consultant a week before delivery.

Winter brings snow and nor'easters, and some towns ban street parking during snow emergencies. Keep the driveway clear and move liquids and plants in your car between December and March.

Booking With Condor

Condor Moving Systems is a Woman-Owned moving company. Our office is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM CT, and we hold interstate authority under USDOT 1126171 and MC-458180, with TxDMV 006041428C for moves inside Texas.

  • Book at least two weeks ahead. A long run to Massachusetts needs a truck and crew set aside, and more notice gives you more dates to pick from.
  • Moving for work? We bill employers and relocation management companies directly, so your company can pay us without you fronting the cost.

Where People Settle in Massachusetts

Many families moving for work in Boston and Cambridge look at Newton, Brookline, Lexington, Wellesley, Needham, Arlington and Belmont, where homes are older and lots are small but schools are strong. Somerville, Medford and Watertown have more multi-family homes and rentals. North of Boston, Andover, Reading and Winchester are popular, and to the south, Hingham, Milton and the South Shore towns offer more space.

Worcester and the towns around it, like Shrewsbury and Westborough, have lower home prices and easy access to the Mass Pike. The Pioneer Valley, around Northampton and Amherst, is built around its colleges, while the Berkshires have older homes, small towns and real winters. On Cape Cod, many homes are summer places, and year-round residents choose towns like Falmouth, Sandwich and Barnstable. Many Massachusetts towns have their own rules for moving trucks, so check with the town before delivery.

Massachusetts RMV Steps

Massachusetts expects new residents to get a Massachusetts driver's license once they become residents, and to register their vehicles right away; there's no grace period for registration. You'll need Massachusetts insurance before registering, and the vehicle must pass inspection within seven days. See the Mass.gov guide to transferring your registration and title.

Massachusetts has a state income tax and a sales tax, and cities and towns charge an annual excise tax on vehicles. Register to vote when you get your license.

Massachusetts Move FAQ

Why is delivery to Massachusetts 1 to 21 business days?

Massachusetts is in New England, which we schedule with the longer window. Most shipments arrive well inside the window. If you need one exact day, add a guaranteed delivery date for an extra charge.

Do you charge by the mile?

No. We price by cubic foot, and the haul to Massachusetts is already in that rate. Long-distance moves start at $1,200.

Is your estimate binding?

Yes. Condor writes binding estimates only. If your inventory changes, the foreman revises the estimate in writing before loading, for your approval.

Where is storage in transit kept?

In Texas, at our Fort Worth or Houston location. It's free for the first 30 days and billed monthly after that.

Should I avoid moving into Boston on September 1?

If you can. It's the busiest moving day of the year, with crowded streets and no parking. A week before or after is easier.

What happens if something is damaged?

Our team helps you through the claim. Start on our file a claim page; you have 9 months from delivery to file.

Will you put my beds back together?

Yes. Basic disassembly in Texas and reassembly at delivery are part of every move.
