Connecticut Delivery Timing

Standard delivery to Connecticut takes 1 to 10 business days. The clock starts on the first date you tell us you're able to receive the shipment, not the day we load. Connecticut is on our 1 to 10 business-day schedule.

We guarantee the pickup date. If a closing, a lease or a first day at work means you need the truck on one specific day at your Connecticut address, ask for a guaranteed delivery date; it's an extra charge, and many people decide it's worth it. If the opposite problem comes up and your new place isn't ready, storage in transit keeps everything on its original inventory until you call for delivery.

Connecticut is well beyond the roughly 8-hour drive that our dedicated next-day service covers, so the standard window applies to every move on this route.

Part of Every Connecticut Move

  1. Disassembly of beds, tables, desks and other furniture that has to come apart to travel.
  2. Moving pads wrapped around each furniture piece.
  3. A numbered inventory, with a tag on every item and a list you sign before the truck leaves Texas.
  4. Placement of furniture and boxes in the rooms you pick at your Connecticut home.
  5. Reassembly of whatever the crew took apart.
  6. One consultant who handles your move from the first call to the last box.
  7. Released value protection, the basic level federal rules require, at 60 cents per pound per article. It's moving coverage rather than insurance. Full value replacement can be bought through Baker International; Condor doesn't sell it directly.

Packing isn't part of the base price. Boxing kitchens, closets, books and garage shelves is an add-on on every move. You can have us pack everything, pack only the fragile rooms, or do it all yourself.

Texas to Connecticut by Road

From Dallas-Fort Worth, Connecticut loads usually run I-30 and I-40 to Tennessee, then I-81 north through Virginia and Pennsylvania and I-84 east through New York into Danbury, Waterbury and Hartford. Fairfield County and New Haven deliveries come in on I-95 along the coast. Trucks don't use the Merritt Parkway or the other Connecticut and New York parkways, which ban commercial vehicles, so loads stay on I-95, I-84 and I-91. Houston departures follow I-10 east and I-59 and I-75 north to reach I-81.

Connecticut Lanes by Origin

Dallas to Hartford is about 1,660 miles, around 31 hours of driving. Houston is about 1,740 miles away. Austin runs about 1,855 miles and San Antonio about 1,935. Stamford and Greenwich are the closest Connecticut cities, about 1,615 miles from Fort Worth, while New London and the eastern shoreline are about 1,705. Waterbury and Danbury are on I-84, the main truck route through the state.

Parkways, Hills and Old Houses

Connecticut's Merritt Parkway is scenic, but commercial trucks are banned from it, along with the other parkways in the region. That's why a moving truck goes through I-95 or I-84 even when a car's GPS suggests otherwise. In Fairfield County, I-95 is often congested, and we plan the arrival to avoid the worst of it.

Greenwich, Darien, New Canaan and the Litchfield Hills have homes on long, winding private drives and narrow roads lined with stone walls. A full-size trailer may not be able to reach the house, and we'd use a smaller shuttle truck. Shuttle service is charged in addition to your estimate and starts at $450.

Punctual, good and professional. Condor Moving System is my go-to moving guys now. Fairly priced for the level of professional moving service they provide to their customers. They were very good in communication to me and among themselves. I have had many bad experiences with multiple movers before it. Condor is the first ever company that I found nobody to complain about, which is maybe a pretty rare thing to say about relocators.

Movers did a great moving job even though it was a not smooth and it's a very long job. Best value for the money we spend. They stayed professional and were kind throughout the move process. They recognized my items and if I needed to change the things, they did it for me rapidly. Very friendly teamwork. Will surly use them again!

Pricing a Connecticut Move

A Connecticut move is priced per cubic foot, meaning the space your belongings take up on our truck. Your rate for the route already includes the miles, so there's no extra line for distance. Long-distance moves start at $1,200.

Ways to bring the cubic feet down:

  • Older Connecticut colonials and capes have smaller rooms and narrow stairs; measure.
  • Sell bulky outdoor furniture you won't use in a New England winter.
  • Pack books and clothing yourself; leave fragile rooms to the crew.

Your estimate may also list packing, boxes, crates, stair or elevator carries, a shuttle, storage in transit, Baker coverage, or a guaranteed delivery date.

Why the estimate doesn't drift

Every estimate we write is binding. The only way it changes is if your shipment changes, and then the foreman puts the revision in writing before loading starts, and you sign off on it before anything is carried out.

Before the estimate

Your consultant needs to see or hear what's going. The easiest way is a Zoom walk-through. If you'd rather, give us a careful room-by-room list by phone and sign a survey waiver, and the quote can still be binding. In-person surveys happen in Dallas-Fort Worth only.

Military, Universities and Major Employers

Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton and the Coast Guard Academy in New London bring a steady stream of military families to southeastern Connecticut. For military households, Condor handles PPM moves, retirement moves and government-arranged shipments. Certified weight tickets come with military moves only.

Yale in New Haven and UConn in Storrs and Farmington hire faculty and medical staff from out of state, and Hartford's insurance companies and Stamford's financial firms relocate employees regularly. When an employer or relocation company covers the move, we bill them directly.

Utilities and Town Services

Eversource serves most of Connecticut, while United Illuminating serves New Haven, Bridgeport and nearby towns. Connecticut lets customers choose an electricity supplier. Many towns handle trash through private haulers, while others run transfer stations that need a permit sticker. Ask your town hall.

Preparing for a Connecticut Delivery

Condo and apartment buildings in Stamford, New Haven and Hartford usually need an elevator reservation, a loading dock time and a certificate of insurance. Send those requirements to your consultant a week ahead. In older neighborhoods, streets are narrow and parking is tight; check whether your town requires a permit to park a moving truck on the street.

New England winters bring snow and ice from December into March. Keep the driveway clear and move liquids and plants in your car. In fall, leaf season brings heavy visitor traffic to the northwest hills.

Choosing a Connecticut Town

Connecticut is a state of small towns, each with its own schools, taxes and services. In Fairfield County, Greenwich, Darien, New Canaan, Westport and Ridgefield draw New York commuters and corporate transfers, while Stamford and Norwalk have more apartments and condos. Trumbull, Shelton and Fairfield offer a middle ground.

Around New Haven, Hamden, Woodbridge, Guilford and Madison are popular with Yale faculty and hospital staff. The Hartford suburbs, including West Hartford, Glastonbury, Simsbury, Avon and Farmington, have strong schools and plenty of space. Southeastern Connecticut, around Groton, Mystic and Ledyard, is home to many Navy families, and the Quiet Corner in the northeast and the Litchfield Hills in the northwest are more rural, with older homes, stone walls and winding roads. Since property taxes and car taxes vary by town, compare mill rates as well as home prices before you choose.

Connecticut DMV: 90 Days

Connecticut gives new residents 90 days to transfer their license and register their vehicles. Vehicles four or more model years old generally need an emissions test, and registration is done by appointment at certain DMV offices. See the CT DMV license transfer page.

Connecticut has a state income tax and a sales tax, and towns charge a property tax on cars. Register to vote at the DMV or your town hall.

Before delivery, call your new town's assessor about the motor vehicle tax, since it's billed by the town where the car is garaged. Set up Eversource or United Illuminating service, internet and trash pickup a week before the truck arrives, and ask the town whether you need a dump or transfer station sticker. If you're renting, ask the landlord where the moving truck can park and whether the town requires a permit for it.

Connecticut Moving Questions

Why is delivery to Connecticut 1 to 10 business days?

Connecticut is on our standard Northeast schedule. Most shipments arrive well inside the window. If you need one exact day, add a guaranteed delivery date for an extra charge.

Do you charge by the mile?

No. We price by cubic foot, and the haul to Connecticut is already in that rate. Long-distance moves start at $1,200.

Is your estimate binding?

Yes. Condor writes binding estimates only. If your inventory changes, the foreman revises the estimate in writing before loading, for your approval.

Where is storage in transit kept?

In Texas, at our Fort Worth or Houston location. It's free for the first 30 days and billed monthly after that.

Why doesn't the truck use the Merritt Parkway?

Commercial vehicles are banned from it. Moving trucks use I-95 or I-84 instead, which we plan for.

What happens if something is damaged?

Our team helps you through the claim. Start on our file a claim page; you have 9 months from delivery to file.

Will you put my beds back together?

Yes. Basic disassembly in Texas and reassembly at delivery are part of every move.
