Indiana Lanes by Origin

Dallas to Indianapolis is about 900 miles, close to 16 hours of driving. From Houston, it's about 1,015 miles, with trucks usually heading north to Texarkana and then on I-30 to Little Rock. Austin loads run about 1,095 miles and San Antonio about 1,170, both by way of I-35 and Dallas. Evansville is the closest Indiana city on our list, about 770 miles from Fort Worth by way of I-69 and western Kentucky. Fort Wayne and South Bend, both near 1,050 to 1,060, are reached on I-69 north and I-65 or the Indiana Toll Road.

Time Zones and Race Season

Most of Indiana uses Eastern Time, one hour ahead of Texas. But the counties in the northwest corner near Chicago (including Gary and Valparaiso) and in the southwest corner around Evansville use Central Time. When you schedule delivery, we confirm which clock the crew is using.

In May, Indianapolis gets busy around the Indianapolis 500 at the Speedway, with heavy traffic on the west side the week of the race and on race day itself. If you're moving to Speedway, Brownsburg or nearby areas in late May, plan around race day.

Included With Every Indiana Move

The base price for a Texas to Indiana move covers the following:

  • Taking apart furniture that needs it, then putting it back together in Indiana
  • Blanket wrap on every piece of furniture
  • Inventory stickers and a signed inventory sheet at origin
  • Unloading into the rooms you choose
  • A single moving consultant as your contact throughout
  • Released value protection at 60 cents per pound per article, the federal minimum. This is moving coverage, not an insurance policy. For more, Baker International offers Full value replacement; we don't sell it ourselves.

Not in the base price: packing. Packing by our crew is always added separately, either full or partial, and you're welcome to pack your own boxes instead.

Punctual, good and professional. Condor Moving System is my go-to moving guys now. Fairly priced for the level of professional moving service they provide to their customers. They were very good in communication to me and among themselves. I have had many bad experiences with multiple movers before it. Condor is the first ever company that I found nobody to complain about, which is maybe a pretty rare thing to say about relocators.

Movers did a great moving job even though it was a not smooth and it's a very long job. Best value for the money we spend. They stayed professional and were kind throughout the move process. They recognized my items and if I needed to change the things, they did it for me rapidly. Very friendly teamwork. Will surly use them again!

What Drives the Cost

A Indiana move is priced per cubic foot, meaning the space your belongings take up on our truck. Your rate for the route already includes the miles, so there's no extra line for distance. Long-distance moves start at $1,200.

Ways to bring the cubic feet down:

  • Measure for the new place: many Indianapolis neighborhoods have older homes with smaller rooms than suburban Texas houses.
  • Leave heavy outdoor equipment if your new lot is smaller.
  • Pack the easy rooms yourself and leave the kitchen and art to the crew.

Your estimate may also list packing, boxes, crates, stair or elevator carries, a shuttle, storage in transit, Baker coverage, or a guaranteed delivery date.

Why the estimate doesn't drift

Every estimate we write is binding. The only way it changes is if your shipment changes, and then the foreman puts the revision in writing before loading starts, and you sign off on it before anything is carried out.

Before the estimate

Your consultant needs to see or hear what's going. The easiest way is a Zoom walk-through. If you'd rather, give us a careful room-by-room list by phone and sign a survey waiver, and the quote can still be binding. In-person surveys happen in Dallas-Fort Worth only.

College Towns

Indiana University in Bloomington, Purdue in West Lafayette and Notre Dame near South Bend are among the biggest employers in their towns. Each one has a move-in week in mid-to-late August when residential streets fill with trucks and parking is hard to find. Apartment complexes near campus often have strict move-in schedules. If you're joining the faculty or staff, tell us your start date early so we can plan around it.

Military Families and Utilities

Indiana has several military installations, including Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane in the south, Camp Atterbury south of Indianapolis, and Grissom Air Reserve Base near Peru. Condor handles PPM moves, where the service member arranges the move and is reimbursed by the government, plus retiree moves and government-arranged shipments. Certified weight tickets are available on military moves; we don't weigh trucks on any other kind of move.

AES Indiana serves Indianapolis, Duke Energy covers much of central and southern Indiana, NIPSCO serves the north, and CenterPoint serves Evansville. Citizens Energy supplies gas and water in Indianapolis. Check your address before calling.

Preparing for Delivery in Indiana

Carmel, Fishers, Westfield and Noblesville have many newer neighborhoods with HOA rules on trucks and parking; send those to your consultant. Carmel is known for its roundabouts, which a tractor-trailer can handle but which affect where the driver can stop. Downtown Indianapolis apartments usually require a reserved elevator and loading dock and a certificate of insurance.

Indiana winters can bring snow and ice, especially in the north near Lake Michigan, where lake-effect snow is common. Keep the driveway clear, and move anything that can freeze in your car if your move falls between December and February.

Book and Bill Your Move

Condor Moving Systems is a Woman-Owned moving company. Our office is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM CT, and we hold interstate authority under USDOT 1126171 and MC-458180, with TxDMV 006041428C for moves inside Texas.

  • Book at least two weeks ahead. A long run to Indiana needs a truck and crew set aside, and more notice gives you more dates to pick from.
  • Moving for work? We bill employers and relocation management companies directly, so your company can pay us without you fronting the cost.

Where Texans Settle in Indiana

The Indianapolis suburbs in Hamilton County, including Carmel, Fishers, Westfield and Noblesville, are among the most popular destinations for families relocating for work. Zionsville and Brownsburg to the northwest and Greenwood and Franklin to the south are also common choices. Inside the city, neighborhoods like Broad Ripple, Irvington, Fountain Square and Meridian-Kessler have older homes and more character, along with narrower streets and tighter parking.

Fort Wayne is Indiana's second-largest city and is known for reasonable home prices. Bloomington, West Lafayette and South Bend are built around their universities, with both student rentals and established neighborhoods. Evansville is the hub of the southwest, close to Kentucky and Illinois. In northwest Indiana, Valparaiso, Crown Point and Munster are commuter towns for Chicago, which puts them on Central Time, so check the clock when you set your delivery appointment.

Your Indiana BMV Checklist

Indiana gives new residents 60 days to get an Indiana driver's license and to title and register their vehicles at the BMV. Registration includes an annual excise tax based on the vehicle's value and age, and Lake and Porter counties require emissions testing for many vehicles. See the Indiana BMV new-resident page.

Indiana has a flat state income tax plus county income taxes, so Texans see a new line on their paychecks. Register to vote after you update your license, and set up utilities and internet before delivery.

Texas to Indiana FAQ

What is the delivery window to Indiana?

1 to 10 business days, counted from the first day you can receive. Indiana is on our standard Midwest schedule, more than an 8-hour drive from Texas. For one fixed day, ask about a guaranteed delivery date, which costs extra.

Can the price go up on moving day?

Only if your shipment changes, and only in writing. The foreman revises the binding estimate before loading, and you approve it first.

What if my new home isn't ready?

Use storage in transit. We hold the shipment at our Fort Worth or Houston location; the first 30 days are free, then it's billed monthly.

Is there a separate fee for the long drive?

No. Your cubic-foot rate to Indiana covers the transportation. Long-distance moves start at $1,200.

Who takes apart the furniture?

Our crew does. Basic disassembly and reassembly is included.

Which time zone will my delivery be in?

Most of Indiana uses Eastern Time. The northwest corner near Chicago and the southwest corner around Evansville use Central Time. We confirm in your local time.

What if an item arrives broken?

You have 9 months from delivery to file a claim, and we help you through it.
