Texas to Utah Movers

Texas to Utah Movers

Utah has pulled in a steady stream of Texans, especially to the tech corridor between Salt Lake City and Provo. Fort Worth to Salt Lake City is about 1,265 road miles, and St. George in the southwest corner is a little closer at about 1,150. Condor Moving Systems has handled moves from Texas to other states since 2003, with our own trucks and our own crews working from Fort Worth and Houston. We load anywhere in Texas and deliver along the Wasatch Front, in Cache Valley and Utah County, and across southern Utah.

Utah Delivery: 1 to 10 Business Days

Standard delivery to Utah takes 1 to 10 business days. The clock starts on the first date you tell us you're able to receive the shipment, not the day we load. Utah takes our 1 to 10 business-day window, the same as most of the West.

We guarantee the pickup date. If a closing, a lease or a first day at work means you need the truck on one specific day at your Utah address, ask for a guaranteed delivery date; it's an extra charge, and many people decide it's worth it. If the opposite problem comes up and your new place isn't ready, storage in transit keeps everything on its original inventory until you call for delivery.

Utah is well beyond the roughly 8-hour drive that our dedicated next-day service covers, so the standard window applies to every move on this route.

Two Ways Into Utah

Most Salt Lake and Ogden loads head northwest from Dallas-Fort Worth on US-287 to Amarillo, run up I-25 through Colorado, then follow I-80 west across southern Wyoming and down Parleys Canyon into the Salt Lake Valley. St. George, Cedar City and Moab are often reached the southern way instead, west on I-40 and up through northern Arizona or the Four Corners. Houston shipments either join the northern route through Dallas or run west through Lubbock toward the Four Corners.

Mileage by Texas City

From Dallas, Salt Lake City is about 1,295 miles and Provo about 1,200. Houston is farther, at roughly 1,445 miles to Salt Lake. Austin and San Antonio are only a little farther than Dallas, about 1,290 to 1,300 miles to Salt Lake, because trucks from Central Texas can head northwest through San Angelo or Lubbock toward the Four Corners and US-191 into Moab and Provo. Moab is the closest Utah town on our list, under 1,000 miles from Fort Worth.

Standard With Every Utah Move

The base price for a Texas to Utah move covers the following:

  • Taking apart furniture that needs it, then putting it back together in Utah
  • Blanket wrap on every piece of furniture
  • Inventory stickers and a signed inventory sheet at origin
  • Unloading into the rooms you choose
  • A single moving consultant as your contact throughout
  • Released value protection at 60 cents per pound per article, the federal minimum. This is moving coverage, not an insurance policy. For more, Baker International offers Full value replacement; we don't sell it ourselves.

Not in the base price: packing. Packing by our crew is always added separately, either full or partial, and you're welcome to pack your own boxes instead.

Wasatch Front Logistics

Most moves to Utah end somewhere along the Wasatch Front, the strip of cities from Ogden through Salt Lake City and Lehi to Provo and Spanish Fork. I-15 is busy most of the day, and the crew plans its arrival around commute traffic. Many newer subdivisions in Lehi, Herriman, Eagle Mountain and Saratoga Springs have HOA rules on truck parking and move times; send them to your consultant.

Utah homes very often have basements, and split-level layouts are common in older neighborhoods. Show the stairs on your Zoom survey so the crew brings the right equipment. Hillside homes in the Avenues, Draper and the canyons sometimes need a shuttle; shuttle service is charged in addition to your estimate and starts at $450.

Punctual, good and professional. Condor Moving System is my go-to moving guys now. Fairly priced for the level of professional moving service they provide to their customers. They were very good in communication to me and among themselves. I have had many bad experiences with multiple movers before it. Condor is the first ever company that I found nobody to complain about, which is maybe a pretty rare thing to say about relocators.

Movers did a great moving job even though it was a not smooth and it's a very long job. Best value for the money we spend. They stayed professional and were kind throughout the move process. They recognized my items and if I needed to change the things, they did it for me rapidly. Very friendly teamwork. Will surly use them again!

Cost of Moving to Utah

Long-distance pricing at Condor is per cubic foot. The survey tells us the volume, the per-cubic-foot rate already has the drive to Utah built in, and the two together give you the transportation cost. Long-distance moves start at $1,200.

The volume is what you control:

  • Utah homes often have finished basements; measure for the furniture you plan to put down there before you decide what to bring.
  • Sell or donate bulky items you could replace locally.
  • Pack non-breakables yourself and add crew packing for the kitchen and art.

Separate lines, if they apply, cover packing and materials, crates, stairs or elevators, a shuttle, storage in transit, added coverage and a guaranteed delivery date.

Binding estimates only

Condor writes binding estimates, so your price is set before the move. If your inventory changes after the survey, the foreman revises the estimate in writing before loading, and nothing goes on the truck until you've approved it.

Three ways to get your estimate

A Zoom survey is the usual choice: you show each room on video. We can also price the move over the phone from a detailed list of furniture and boxes, and in that case you sign a waiver of the survey so the estimate can be binding. Customers in Dallas-Fort Worth can ask for an in-person survey; that option isn't offered elsewhere.

Southern Utah

St. George and Washington County have grown fast, with many retirees and remote workers from Texas. Summers are hot and dry, more like West Texas than Salt Lake. Moab and Kanab are far from interstates and lightly served, so plan dates well in advance. Southern Utah stays on Mountain Time, but neighboring Arizona doesn't observe daylight saving time, so in summer St. George is an hour ahead of Arizona towns just south of it.

Hill AFB, Universities and Utilities

Hill Air Force Base near Layton and Ogden is the state's largest single employer. Condor handles PPM moves, where the service member arranges the move and is reimbursed by the government, plus retiree moves and government-arranged shipments. Certified weight tickets are available on military moves; we don't weigh trucks on any other kind of move.

The University of Utah, BYU in Provo, Utah State in Logan and Utah Tech in St. George each bring in faculty and staff every year; BYU and Utah State move-in weeks fill rental streets in late August.

Rocky Mountain Power supplies electricity across most of the state, and Enbridge Gas (formerly Dominion Energy) supplies natural gas. Set up both before delivery.

Things Texans Learn After Moving to Utah

Salt Lake City addresses use a grid based on Temple Square, so an address like 1300 East 2100 South tells you where you are on the map; it's easy once you get used to it. Winter inversions can trap haze in the valleys for days, and the canyons get serious snow. Delivery to Park City or the ski areas east of Salt Lake goes up Parleys Canyon on I-80, which can slow in storms.

Many Utah homes have unfinished or partly finished basements used for storage, which helps if you're bringing more than fits upstairs. Newer suburbs in the south valley and Utah County have tight HOA rules, and some new streets don't yet show up in navigation apps; send your crew a pin. In St. George, summer heat runs well past 100 degrees, so early-morning deliveries make the day easier on everyone and on your furniture.

Registering in Utah

Once you're a Utah resident, you're expected to get a Utah driver's license, and you have 60 days to register your vehicles. Depending on the county and the car's age, an emissions test may be required before registration. The Utah DMV registration page explains the steps.

Utah driver's licenses are handled by Driver License Division offices, which are separate from the DMV offices that register vehicles; many offices take appointments. Utah has a state income tax and a sales tax, so Texans see both on the first year's paperwork. Salt Lake, Davis, Utah, Weber and Cache counties require emissions testing for many vehicles. Once your license shows your Utah address, update your voter registration through the state election site.

Texas to Utah FAQ

How long will my things take to reach Utah?

The standard window is 1 to 10 business days from your first available delivery day. Utah is on our standard schedule for the West, well beyond an 8-hour drive from Texas. A guaranteed delivery date is available for an additional charge.

Can you store my things before delivery in Utah?

Yes, with storage in transit, held at our Fort Worth or Houston location. Your shipment keeps its original inventory. The first 30 days are free; after that it's billed monthly.

Will I see a mileage charge for Utah?

No separate mileage line. Pricing is per cubic foot with the distance built in. Long-distance moves start at $1,200.

How do I report damage?

Go to our file a claim page. You have 9 months after delivery, and our team will support you through the process.

Could my estimate change?

Only when what you're moving changes. The revision is written up by the foreman before loading, and you sign off on it first.

Is disassembly extra?

No. Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly come with every move.

Is there a shuttle charge for canyon or hillside homes?

Only if a full-size truck can't reach the house. We plan it from your survey, and it's billed in addition to your estimate.
