Texas to Wyoming Movers

Texas to Wyoming Movers

Cheyenne is closer to Texas than most people guess: about 850 road miles from Fort Worth, a long day and a half of driving. Jackson, on the far side of the state, is more than 1,250. Condor Moving Systems has been moving Texas households to other states since 2003, using our own trucks and our own crews from Fort Worth and Houston. We load anywhere in Texas and deliver to Cheyenne, Laramie, Casper, Gillette, Sheridan, Rock Springs and Jackson Hole.

Wyoming Delivery Timing

Standard delivery to Wyoming takes 1 to 21 business days. The clock starts on the first date you tell us you're able to receive the shipment, not the day we load. Wyoming falls in our northern group, so it takes the longer window even though Cheyenne is closer than many people think.

We guarantee the pickup date. If a closing, a lease or a first day at work means you need the truck on one specific day at your Wyoming address, ask for a guaranteed delivery date; it's an extra charge, and many people decide it's worth it. If the opposite problem comes up and your new place isn't ready, storage in transit keeps everything on its original inventory until you call for delivery.

Wyoming is well beyond the roughly 8-hour drive that our dedicated next-day service covers, so the standard window applies to every move on this route.

What Every Wyoming Move Includes

  1. Disassembly of beds, tables, desks and other furniture that has to come apart to travel.
  2. Moving pads wrapped around each furniture piece.
  3. A numbered inventory, with a tag on every item and a list you sign before the truck leaves Texas.
  4. Placement of furniture and boxes in the rooms you pick at your Wyoming home.
  5. Reassembly of whatever the crew took apart.
  6. One consultant who handles your move from the first call to the last box.
  7. Released value protection, the basic level federal rules require, at 60 cents per pound per article. It's moving coverage rather than insurance. Full value replacement can be bought through Baker International; Condor doesn't sell it directly.

Packing isn't part of the base price. Boxing kitchens, closets, books and garage shelves is an add-on on every move. You can have us pack everything, pack only the fragile rooms, or do it all yourself.

Wind, I-80 and Winter Closures

Wyoming wind is famous for a reason. Interstate 80 between Laramie and Rawlins, especially around Elk Mountain and Arlington, is closed to high-profile vehicles several times every winter when gusts get too strong, and full closures for snow happen too. A tractor-trailer may have to wait out a closure, which is part of why we quote Wyoming with the longer delivery window.

When you plan a winter delivery, allow some flexibility, keep the driveway clear, and expect the crew to call if the road reports change. In summer, I-80 and I-25 are open and busy with freight and tourist traffic to Yellowstone and Grand Teton.

Punctual, good and professional. Condor Moving System is my go-to moving guys now. Fairly priced for the level of professional moving service they provide to their customers. They were very good in communication to me and among themselves. I have had many bad experiences with multiple movers before it. Condor is the first ever company that I found nobody to complain about, which is maybe a pretty rare thing to say about relocators.

Movers did a great moving job even though it was a not smooth and it's a very long job. Best value for the money we spend. They stayed professional and were kind throughout the move process. They recognized my items and if I needed to change the things, they did it for me rapidly. Very friendly teamwork. Will surly use them again!

Typical Lanes by Origin

Dallas to Cheyenne runs about 875 miles, or 16 hours of driving. From Houston, Cheyenne is about 1,115 miles and Jackson about 1,525. Austin and San Antonio are close to 1,020 to 1,030 miles from Cheyenne; those trucks often head northwest through Lubbock and Amarillo before joining US-287. Casper is about 175 miles past Cheyenne on I-25, Sheridan and Gillette are farther north toward Montana, and Rock Springs is about 255 miles west of Laramie on I-80.

What You Pay for a Wyoming Move

There's one base measure on a Condor interstate move: cubic feet. We work out how much room your shipment needs, and that volume at your route's rate is the transportation price, miles to Wyoming included. Long-distance moves start at $1,200.

Shrink the shipment, shrink the bill:

  • Wyoming homes often have big basements and garages, but you'll pay to fill them; leave behind what you won't use.
  • Leave Texas pool and patio gear for the next owner.
  • Pack soft goods and books yourself, and add crew packing only for breakables.

Possible added lines are limited to things like packing and materials, crating, long carries or stairs, a shuttle truck, storage in transit, coverage and a guaranteed delivery date.

Your price is binding

We only write binding estimates. When the household you're moving grows or shrinks after the survey, the foreman updates the estimate on paper before loading, and you approve the new figure first.

How you get quoted

Most people choose a Zoom video survey and walk a consultant through the house on a phone. A phone quote works if you can give us an accurate furniture list and box count; a binding phone quote without a survey requires a signed survey waiver. In-person surveys are offered only in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Taxes, Utilities and Small Differences

Wyoming has no state income tax, which is familiar territory for Texans. It does have a state sales tax, with local add-ons in many counties.

Rocky Mountain Power provides electricity across much of the state, while Black Hills Energy serves Cheyenne and several other towns. Rural properties may use propane, a well and septic. Confirm providers with your agent or landlord before the truck arrives.

Wyoming's elevation is high. Cheyenne and Laramie sit above 6,000 and 7,000 feet, so new arrivals often feel it the first few days. Drink water on moving day.

Jackson Hole and Mountain Homes

Jackson is one of the most difficult deliveries in the state. Roads in sit between mountain ranges, winter storms can close Teton Pass on the Idaho side, and many homes are on narrow private roads or in HOA communities with truck rules. We may need a smaller shuttle truck for the final leg. Shuttle service is charged in addition to your estimate and starts at $450. Give us HOA move rules and gate codes ahead of time.

F.E. Warren and the University of Wyoming

F.E. Warren Air Force Base, on the west side of Cheyenne, is the state's main military installation. Military moves we handle include PPMs, where you arrange the move and get reimbursed, retiree moves and government-arranged shipments, with certified weight tickets when the move requires them. Civilian moves are priced by cubic foot and aren't weighed.

The University of Wyoming in Laramie hires faculty and staff from out of state each year, and late August is the busiest time for rentals there.

Booking Details

Give us at least two weeks' notice for a Wyoming move; earlier is better in summer. Call during office hours, Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM CT. If your employer or a relocation company is paying, we bill them directly.

Preparing for Delivery in Wyoming

Most Cheyenne and Casper neighborhoods are easy for a full-size truck, with wide streets and driveways. Rural homes around Laramie, Sheridan and Gillette often sit on gravel roads, and a few have cattle guards or gates the crew needs to know about. Send photos of the approach and any gates with your survey, and leave codes and keys with someone who'll be on site.

Spring storms in Wyoming can drop heavy, wet snow as late as May, and fall storms can arrive in September. If your delivery falls in either season, keep a shovel ready and a contact number handy. In Jackson, many homes are part of HOAs with delivery hours and parking rules; the crew needs those in writing before arrival. In mining and energy towns such as Gillette and Rock Springs, rentals turn over with job changes, so book as soon as you know your start date.

Becoming a Wyoming Resident

Wyoming's rules split the two jobs. You have up to one year to switch to a Wyoming driver's license, but vehicles should be registered once you become a resident, and right away if you take a job in the state. Titles go through the county clerk and registration through the county treasurer in your new county. The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) website and your county treasurer's office list what to bring.

Wyoming has no state vehicle inspection for most cars, but an out-of-state title generally needs a VIN inspection, often done by the county sheriff or a designated inspector. Registration fees are set partly by the county and the vehicle's value, so call ahead for an estimate. Many county offices close earlier than Texans expect, so arrive early in the day. Update your voter registration with your county clerk once your Wyoming address is in place.

For utilities, Rocky Mountain Power and Black Hills Energy both take start-service requests online; many rural homes need a propane company, and some rely on a well and septic system.

Questions About Moving to Wyoming

What is the delivery window to Wyoming?

1 to 21 business days, counted from the first day you can receive. Wyoming is in the northern group of states on our schedule, and its towns are spread far apart. For one fixed day, ask about a guaranteed delivery date, which costs extra.

Can the price go up on moving day?

Only if your shipment changes, and only in writing. The foreman revises the binding estimate before loading, and you approve it first.

What if my new home isn't ready?

Use storage in transit. We hold the shipment at our Fort Worth or Houston location; the first 30 days are free, then it's billed monthly.

Is there a separate fee for the long drive?

No. Your cubic-foot rate to Wyoming covers the transportation. Long-distance moves start at $1,200.

Who takes apart the furniture?

Our crew does. Basic disassembly and reassembly is included.

Will wind closures delay my delivery?

They can. I-80 closes to trucks during high winds and storms. Any delay stays inside the delivery window, and our dispatch keeps you posted.

What if an item arrives broken?

You have 9 months from delivery to file a claim, and we help you through it.
