Texas to Montana Movers
Montana is big enough that the city you're moving to changes the trip a lot. Fort Worth to Billings is about 1,300 road miles; Fort Worth to Kalispell, near Glacier, is closer to 1,750. Condor Moving Systems has moved Texans out of state since 2003 with our own trucks and crews, based in Fort Worth and Houston. We pick up anywhere in Texas and deliver across Montana, from Billings and Bozeman to Missoula, Helena, Great Falls, Butte and the Flathead Valley.

Plan Around a 1–21 Business-Day Window
Plan on 1 to 21 business days for standard delivery from Texas to Montana, counted from the first day you can take delivery. Montana is one of the far-northern states on our schedule. Most shipments get there well inside that range, but set up your housing so the late end of the window wouldn't leave you stuck.
Ways to work with the window:
- Your pickup day is fixed. Condor guarantees the date we load in Texas.
- Need one exact delivery day? A guaranteed delivery date is available for an additional charge.
- Keys not ready yet? Storage in transit holds your inventoried shipment until you are.
- Drive the essentials yourself. Bedding, medicine, documents and a week of clothes belong in the car.
Next-day delivery only applies on dedicated trucks to places within about an 8-hour drive, so it isn't offered to Montana.
Seasons Set the Schedule
Summer is the busy season for Montana moves, and for good reason: from November into April, snow and ice can close passes on I-90 and slow everything down, and some smaller roads in the mountains are rough until the thaw. If your job start date is flexible, late spring or early fall gives you clearer roads and more choice of dates.
Winter moves still happen. We plan the route around weather, and your crew will want the driveway cleared and a spot to park the truck. Rural properties on gravel or long private drives may need a smaller shuttle truck for the last mile. Shuttle service is charged in addition to your estimate and starts at $450.
Included on Every Montana Move
Every Condor move to Montana comes with these, at no added line on the estimate:
- Basic disassembly and reassembly of furniture
- Furniture pads on every piece
- Tagging and a written inventory you sign in Texas
- Unloading and placement room by room
- A dedicated consultant
- Released value protection: 60 cents per pound per article, the minimum federal rules call for. It's moving coverage and not insurance. If you want more, Full value replacement is offered through Baker International; Condor doesn't sell it in-house.
One thing that is never in the base price: packing. Full or partial packing is an add-on, or you can box everything yourself.
North to Big Sky Country
A Billings load from Dallas-Fort Worth usually runs US-287 to Amarillo and on into Colorado, then I-25 north through Denver, Cheyenne and Casper before US-87 and I-90 carry it into Billings. Bozeman, Butte and Missoula are farther west along I-90, over Bozeman Pass and Homestake Pass. Great Falls and Helena are reached on I-15 north of Butte. Houston moves add the run up I-45 to Dallas first.

Typical Montana Lanes
Dallas to Billings is about 1,325 road miles; Houston to Billings is about 1,565, and Houston to Kalispell is past 2,000. Bozeman adds about 145 miles past Billings on I-90; Missoula adds another 200 over Homestake Pass and through Butte. Great Falls and Helena are reached by turning north on I-15 at Butte, or on US-87 from Billings through Lewistown in good weather.
Trusted by Texas Families Since 2003
Punctual, good and professional. Condor Moving System is my go-to moving guys now. Fairly priced for the level of professional moving service they provide to their customers. They were very good in communication to me and among themselves. I have had many bad experiences with multiple movers before it. Condor is the first ever company that I found nobody to complain about, which is maybe a pretty rare thing to say about relocators.
Movers did a great moving job even though it was a not smooth and it's a very long job. Best value for the money we spend. They stayed professional and were kind throughout the move process. They recognized my items and if I needed to change the things, they did it for me rapidly. Very friendly teamwork. Will surly use them again!
These movers did a best job even though it was a tough and time taking job. Best value for the money it cost. Stayed professional and were helpful throughout the day of move. Honored my goods and if I required things changed they did it for me in little time. Very coordinated teamwork. Will definitely use them again for coming movers!
Montana Move Pricing
Long-distance pricing at Condor is per cubic foot. The survey tells us the volume, the per-cubic-foot rate already has the drive to Montana built in, and the two together give you the transportation cost. Long-distance moves start at $1,200.
The volume is what you control:
- Montana homes often have big mudrooms and garages; that doesn't mean every Texas garage item needs to come.
- Sell heavy pieces that won't suit a mountain cabin or a smaller Missoula house.
- Do your own packing for closets and books, and let the crew pack the kitchen.
Separate lines, if they apply, cover packing and materials, crates, stairs or elevators, a shuttle, storage in transit, added coverage and a guaranteed delivery date.
Binding estimates only
Condor writes binding estimates, so your price is set before the move. If your inventory changes after the survey, the foreman revises the estimate in writing before loading, and nothing goes on the truck until you've approved it.
Three ways to get your estimate
A Zoom survey is the usual choice: you show each room on video. We can also price the move over the phone from a detailed list of furniture and boxes, and in that case you sign a waiver of the survey so the estimate can be binding. Customers in Dallas-Fort Worth can ask for an in-person survey; that option isn't offered elsewhere.
No Sales Tax, Different Utilities
Montana has no general sales tax, which surprises many Texans; it's one reason some people wait to buy furniture until after the move.
NorthWestern Energy supplies electricity and gas to much of western and central Montana, including Bozeman, Butte, Helena, Missoula and Great Falls. Montana-Dakota Utilities serves many towns in the east, and Billings has a mix of providers depending on the address. Check your exact street before you call.
Many rural Montana homes use well water and septic systems, and some use propane. Ask your agent or seller which companies service the house.
College Towns and Malmstrom
Montana State in Bozeman and the University of Montana in Missoula each draw faculty and staff from across the country, and late-August move-in fills both towns. Bozeman in particular has grown quickly, and rental buildings there often have tight parking for a large truck; let us know about access early.
Malmstrom Air Force Base sits on the east side of Great Falls. For military households, Condor handles PPM moves, retirement moves and government-arranged shipments. Certified weight tickets come with military moves only.
Book Early for Summer
Give us at least two weeks' notice for a Montana move; earlier is better in summer. Call during office hours, Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM CT. If your employer or a relocation company is paying, we bill them directly.
Condor is a Woman-Owned business, licensed as USDOT 1126171, MC-458180 and TxDMV 006041428C.
Getting a House Ready for a Montana Delivery
A lot of Montana moves end at homes outside town limits, on county roads or private drives. Before delivery day, check whether the road is posted with seasonal weight limits; in spring, some counties restrict heavy trucks while the ground thaws. Walk the route from the road to the door, note any low branches, tight turns or soft ground, and send photos to your consultant.
In town, Bozeman and Missoula have growing apartment and condo stock with limited loading zones, and downtown streets can be busy in tourist season. Billings and Great Falls are generally easier for a large truck. Wherever you're headed, plan for elevation: Bozeman sits near 4,800 feet and Butte above 5,500. The crew will pace the carry on a long day, and you'll want water, snacks and a clear path to the main rooms.

Licenses and Plates in Montana
Montana gives new residents 60 days to get a Montana driver's license and to register their vehicles. Registration is handled at the county treasurer's office in your new county, and Montana doesn't require a vehicle safety or emissions inspection. The Montana Motor Vehicle Division lists the documents you'll need.
Montana titles and plates are handled through the county where you live, and many counties let you book an appointment online. Because Montana doesn't have a sales tax, registration fees can feel higher than Texans expect, and they vary with the vehicle's age. Montana does have a state income tax, so keep records of your move date for your first return. Once the license is in hand, update your voter registration with the county election office.
For utilities, NorthWestern Energy and Montana-Dakota Utilities both have start-service forms online. In rural areas, ask the previous owners which company delivers propane and when the tank was last filled; winter deliveries book up fast. Internet options outside the larger towns can be limited, so check service at the new address before you commit to a remote-work start date.

Texas to Montana FAQ
When will the truck get to Montana?
Within 1 to 21 business days of the first day you can accept delivery. Montana is a far-northern state with long distances between cities, so it takes the longer window. If timing is critical, a guaranteed delivery date can be added for an extra charge.
Is the distance to Montana billed separately?
No. The per-cubic-foot rate already includes the trip. Long-distance moves start at $1,200.
Can you reach homes outside town, like near Big Sky or Whitefish?
Yes. Show us the road and driveway on your video survey. If a full-size trailer can't get in, we plan a shuttle truck, which is billed in addition to the estimate.
Do you offer storage?
Storage in transit, at our Fort Worth or Houston location. The first 30 days cost nothing; after that, storage is billed monthly.
Do I need to take my furniture apart?
No. Basic disassembly and reassembly is included on every Condor move.
What if I add items after the survey?
The foreman writes up the change to your binding estimate before loading begins. Nothing is loaded until you approve it.
Is there a deadline for claims?
Yes: 9 months from delivery. Use our file a claim page, and our team will walk you through it.
