These are the questions we hear most about local moves in Texas and long-distance moves across the country. If yours isn’t here, call us at 877-460-6683 or ask for a free quote and a move consultant will answer it.
Booking and pricing
How do I get a moving quote?
Pick the option that works for you: a video survey over Zoom or a similar app (our most popular), a quote by phone, or an on-site survey if you live in the Dallas–Fort Worth area. If you choose a phone quote with no survey, you sign a written waiver of the survey. Start with our free quote form or call 877-460-6683.
Is my quote binding?
Yes. Every Condor estimate is binding: you pay the price we quote for the items and services listed on it. If you add items or services on moving day, the foreman writes up the change and you approve it in writing before we load.
How do you figure out the size of my move?
From your item list or from a video or on-site survey. We measure your items in cubic feet, which is how much room they take up on the truck.
Are there hidden charges?
No. Any extra charge is spelled out in the terms and conditions of your estimate before you book. The most common extras are packing, a guaranteed delivery date, and a shuttle truck (from $450) when a full-size truck can’t reach your home.
How can I pay?
For local moves we accept cash, money orders or cashier’s checks. For long-distance moves we also accept Visa or Mastercard at pickup; at delivery we accept only cash, money orders or cashier’s checks.
How far ahead should I book?
Book at least 2 weeks ahead, and earlier if you want to move on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
Are you a moving company or a broker?
We’re a moving company, not a broker. Condor has been moving families and businesses since 2003, and every move is done with our own trucks and our own crews.
How many movers will you send?
Most moves get a crew of three: a driver who is also the foreman, plus two helpers.
Can you send a certificate of insurance to my building?
Yes. Many apartment and office buildings ask for one. Send us a sample certificate from your building and we’ll provide ours.
Packing
Do you pack, or do I?
Either. Packing isn’t part of a standard estimate; it’s an add-on. We offer full packing or partial packing (only the rooms or items you choose) on local and long-distance moves, at $1.25 per cubic foot. See packing and crating for details.
Do you take apart and put back together my furniture?
Yes, basic disassembly and reassembly is part of every move. We don’t take apart or reassemble ready-to-assemble (particleboard) furniture.
How do you keep my things separate from other shipments?
Every item gets a numbered inventory sticker that is color-coded and lot-coded to your shipment, so your things stay together from pickup to delivery.
Long-distance and interstate moves
How are long-distance moves priced?
By the cubic foot, on a binding estimate. The price comes from how much room your items take on the truck. See long-distance moving.
How long will delivery take?
Delivery takes 1 to 10 business days, counted from the first day you can receive your shipment. Allow 1 to 21 business days for Northern California (the San Francisco Bay Area), Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, upstate New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Maine and Massachusetts. Southern California and the New York City area stay at 1 to 10 business days.
Can I pick my pickup date?
Yes. Condor offers guaranteed pickup dates.
Can I get a set delivery date?
Yes, a guaranteed delivery date is available for an extra charge. For moves within about an 8-hour drive, next-day delivery on a dedicated truck may also be possible; ask your move consultant.
Where do you move to and from?
We deliver from Texas to all 48 contiguous states, every part of each state. We also pick up in every state for moves back to Texas.
What if I can't take delivery right away?
We can hold your shipment in storage in transit at our Fort Worth or Houston location. The first 30 days are free; after that, storage is billed monthly. See moving and storage.
Do you handle military moves?
Yes. We handle PPM moves (you arrange the move and the government reimburses you), retiree moves and government-arranged shipments. When a military move needs certified weight tickets, we provide them. See military moves.
What paperwork do I get for an interstate move?
Federal rules give you two booklets before an interstate move: Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move and Ready to Move?. Both are on our Ready to Move page.
Local and in-state Texas moves
How are local and in-state Texas moves priced?
By the hour: $175 per hour on a binding estimate, with a 4-hour minimum that includes labor and a trip charge, which we figure case by case when we quote. The trip charge can be more for suburbs farther from our location. Every move that starts and ends in Texas is hourly, even between cities. See Texas local moving.
Is Condor licensed?
Yes. For moves within Texas we’re licensed by the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV 006041428C). For interstate moves we’re registered with the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT 1126171, MC-458180).
Can you move my office after hours?
Yes. We can move offices in the evening or on a weekend for an extra charge, which we tell you when you book.
Coverage and claims
What coverage comes with my move?
Every Condor move, local, in-state or interstate, includes released value coverage at 60 cents per pound per article at no extra cost. It’s our basic liability as your mover, not insurance. For example, a 50-pound TV is covered up to $30. See moving coverage.
Can I get full value coverage?
Yes, through Baker International, an independent company that specializes in moving insurance. Condor doesn’t sell full value coverage ourselves. You buy it directly from Baker, and Baker sets the price and the terms: get a Baker quote.
How do I file a claim?
Use our online claim form. Check your whole shipment first, because the form allows one submission per customer, so list every item in one claim. File within 9 months of delivery for an interstate move, or within 90 days for a move within Texas. If you bought coverage from Baker International, file with Baker first.
How long does a claim take?
Most claims take about 6 to 12 weeks.
What if I don't agree with how my claim was settled?
For an interstate move you can ask for neutral arbitration through our program. For a move within Texas, the TxDMV offers free mediation. Our arbitration process page explains both.
What we can't move
Can you move firearms?
Yes, if they’re unloaded. We can’t move ammunition, so keep it with you. Tell your move consultant about any firearms before moving day.
Can you move propane tanks?
No, never, even empty ones. Disconnect them from grills and heaters before moving day; your propane supplier or a tank exchange can take them.
Can you deliver a single piece of furniture?
No. We don’t do single-item furniture deliveries.
What else can't go on the truck?
Hazardous items such as gasoline, motor oil, paint thinner, aerosols and fireworks. Our non-allowables list has the full list and what to do with each item instead.
