What's in the Base Move
Each South Carolina move includes the following without extra charge. The crew takes apart furniture that needs it, like bed frames and dining tables, and reassembles it at your new home. Every piece is wrapped in moving pads. Everything gets a numbered tag that matches an inventory you sign at loading and check at delivery. The crew places furniture in the rooms you want. And you keep the same Condor consultant throughout.
Released value protection is included too. It is the minimum coverage required on interstate moves, and it pays 60 cents per pound per article. It's moving coverage, not insurance. Full value replacement is available through Baker International; Condor doesn't sell it in-house. Look at the coverage options before moving day.
Packing is separate. We don't box up your dishes, clothes, decorations, or garage and attic items unless you add packing to the move. A full pack does the whole house; a partial pack does only the rooms you choose.

Getting There: I-20 and I-10
From Dallas–Fort Worth, the truck stays on I-20 almost the whole way: through Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia into Columbia. Greenville and Spartanburg branch off on I-85 past Atlanta. Charleston is reached by I-26 from Columbia. From Houston, shipments to the coast often go east on I-10 to Mobile, north through Montgomery, then across Georgia toward I-95.

Because South Carolina is far beyond an 8-hour drive from Fort Worth or Houston, next-day service doesn't apply. Next-day delivery is available on dedicated trucks for destinations within about an 8-hour drive.
How Your South Carolina Price Is Set
We price long-distance moves by the cubic foot. Your survey tells us how much truck space your belongings will need, and that volume is multiplied by your rate. The haul to South Carolina is part of that rate rather than a separate charge.
Your binding estimate also lists the add-ons that apply to you: packing and materials, crates, stairs and elevators, storage in transit, your coverage choice and a guaranteed delivery date. A shuttle truck, where a full-size truck can't reach, is charged in addition to the estimate. If anything about the shipment changes after the survey, the foreman puts the revised price in writing before loading, and you approve it before the crew starts.

The Upstate: Greenville, Spartanburg and Clemson
The Upstate is the closest part of South Carolina to Texas by road. Greenville's growth has brought a lot of new subdivisions with HOAs, many of which limit when moving trucks can park and for how long. Ask your HOA for the rules early. Clemson University's move-in in August fills Clemson and Seneca with student traffic, and football Saturdays in the fall do the same.
The Midlands: Columbia, Fort Jackson and Shaw
Columbia is the state capital and home to the University of South Carolina, whose August move-in packs the apartments around campus and Five Points. Fort Jackson, on Columbia's east side, is the Army's largest basic combat training center. Shaw Air Force Base is about 35 miles east, near Sumter. Both need gate access arranged in advance for on-post deliveries.
The Coast: Charleston, Beaufort and the Grand Strand
Charleston. Streets on the historic peninsula are narrow, many are one-way, and parking for a large truck can be limited. Some homes there and on the barrier islands can only be reached with a smaller shuttle truck. Shuttle service is charged in addition to your estimate and starts at $450. King tides and heavy rain can also flood low streets downtown for a few hours. Joint Base Charleston covers the air base in North Charleston and the naval weapons station near Goose Creek.
Beaufort. Home to Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort and Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island.
Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand. High-rise condo buildings usually require a reserved service elevator and a certificate of insurance. Summer weekends bring heavy beach traffic on US-17 and US-501.

Raised Houses on the Coast
In flood zones around Charleston, Mount Pleasant, Beaufort, Bluffton and the islands, many homes are built up on pilings, with the living space a full story or more above the ground and a long exterior staircase to the front door. Everything we carry in goes up those steps, so they count as stairs on your estimate. Show us the stairs on your video survey, and tell us whether there's an elevator under the house (some have one). Garages and storage on the ground level under the house are often where boxes go first.
Hurricane Season
Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, and the peak is usually late August through early October. When a storm threatens the coast, the state can reverse the eastbound lanes of I-26 so all traffic flows out of Charleston toward Columbia. If an evacuation is ordered for your delivery area, your delivery waits until it's safe to go back in. Leave some flex in your dates if you're moving to the coast in the fall.
Jobs, Utilities and Setting Up
Many Texans moving to the Upstate are following manufacturing and engineering jobs. BMW's largest plant in the world is in Spartanburg County near Greer, and Michelin's North American headquarters is in Greenville. Along the coast, the Port of Charleston, Boeing's North Charleston plant and the military installations are major employers.
Electricity in the Upstate is largely Duke Energy territory; around Columbia and Charleston, much of it is Dominion Energy South Carolina, with Santee Cooper and local electric co-ops serving many other areas. Find out which one covers your new address and start service before delivery day.
If You're Coming From Houston
Houston families will find the Lowcountry familiar: heat, humidity, hurricane season and flood zones. A few habits carry over well. Check whether your new address is in a FEMA flood zone before you close. Keep important documents in a waterproof folder in your car. And leave your delivery date some flexibility from late August through early October.

Your Car and License in South Carolina
You have 45 days after moving to South Carolina to get an SC driver's license and to transfer your vehicle registration. One step surprises most Texans: you must pay the county property tax on your vehicle first, at your county treasurer's office, and bring the paid receipt to the SCDMV. What happens if a hurricane is headed for Charleston on my delivery date?
Safety comes first. If an evacuation order covers your area, we hold your shipment and deliver once it's safe. Storage in transit can bridge the gap: it's held at our Fort Worth or Houston location, free for the first 30 days and billed monthly after that.
Can a moving truck get to a house on the Charleston peninsula?
Sometimes, and sometimes not. Send us the address and photos of the street. If a full-size truck can't park safely, a shuttle may be needed. Shuttle service is charged in addition to your estimate and starts at $450.
