Punctual, good and professional. Condor Moving System is my go-to moving guys now. Fairly priced for the level of professional moving service they provide to their customers. They were very good in communication to me and among themselves. I have had many bad experiences with multiple movers before it. Condor is the first ever company that I found nobody to complain about, which is maybe a pretty rare thing to say about relocators.Thomas C Davison
Movers did a great moving job even though it was a not smooth and it's a very long job. Best value for the money we spend. They stayed professional and were kind throughout the move process. They recognized my items and if I needed to change the things, they did it for me rapidly. Very friendly teamwork. Will surly use them again!Denis Tanney

How Far Is It From Texas to Iowa?
A Texas to Iowa move covers roughly 700 to 1,100 miles depending on which Texas city you leave and where in the state you land. Interstate moves are scheduled with a delivery spread rather than a single guaranteed date, because a trailer carries more than one household. Your estimate states the window for your specific route and dates.
| Route | Approx. driving distance | Main corridor |
|---|---|---|
| Dallas–Fort Worth → Des Moines | 730 miles | I-35 north |
| Dallas–Fort Worth → Cedar Rapids | 850 miles | I-35 to I-80 |
| Dallas–Fort Worth → Iowa City | 840 miles | I-35 to I-80 |
| Austin → Des Moines | 930 miles | I-35 north |
| Houston → Des Moines | 980 miles | US 75 / I-35 |
| San Antonio → Des Moines | 1,010 miles | I-35 north |
| Dallas–Fort Worth → Davenport | 880 miles | I-35 to I-80 |
| Houston → Cedar Rapids | 1,090 miles | US 75 to I-80 |
Distances are approximate driving miles and will vary with routing, weather and road conditions. Transit time is quoted per shipment.
How Much Does It Cost to Move From Texas to Iowa?
An interstate move is priced on the weight or volume of your shipment plus mileage — not by the hour. That is the key difference from a local move. A crew billed hourly has an incentive to work slowly; a shipment priced on weight and distance does not, which is why interstate moves are quoted this way.
What Determines Your Price
- Weight or volume of the shipment
- Distance between origin and destination
- Packing services, full or partial
- Packing materials and custom crating
- Specialty items such as pianos or safes
- Stairs, elevators and long carries at either end
- Shuttle service where a tractor-trailer cannot reach
- Storage in transit, if dates do not line up
- Valuation coverage you select
- Time of year and date flexibility
How to Keep the Cost Down
- Purge before the estimate, not after — you pay to move weight
- Book outside the May to August peak if you can
- Give a flexible delivery window rather than a fixed date
- Pack what you reasonably can yourself
- Take an accurate inventory so the estimate is not padded
- Sort out condo and HOA paperwork early to avoid a wasted trip
- Ask about consolidating with another shipment on the same lane
- Measure oversized furniture against the new doorways first
Interstate household moves are regulated by the FMCSA. Condor provides the federal Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move booklet with interstate estimates, and your written estimate shows the expected charges before loading day.
What to Expect Delivering in Iowa
Iowa deliveries are shaped by winter and by how much of the state is farm country. Deep cold, gravel roads, flooding and the university calendar all factor in. Here is what we plan for.
Winter Cold & Snow
From November through March, Iowa sees deep cold, heavy snow and ice, and I-35 and I-80 close in blizzard conditions at short notice. Steps and walkways need clearing before a crew can safely carry. Conditions are monitored ahead of your date and a shipment is held rather than run into a closure.
Farm & Acreage Access
A great deal of Iowa delivery is outside town limits, where the last stretch is gravel and there is no room to turn a trailer. Spring thaw turns some of those roads soft. Where a full-size truck cannot safely reach the house we shuttle in with a smaller vehicle.
River Flooding
The Mississippi, Missouri, Cedar and Des Moines rivers flood recurrently, closing low-lying roads and access routes with limited notice. Routing is set when the move is quoted and reviewed again before dispatch.
University Move Weeks
Iowa City and Ames compress an enormous amount of moving into the weeks around the Iowa and Iowa State calendars, and campus-area streets get very tight. Those dates book out first.
Older Housing & Basements
Much of the Iowa housing stock is older, with narrow staircases, tight landings and basements reached by exterior bulkhead doors. Larger furniture sometimes has to be disassembled, so tell us what is oversized when you request your estimate.
Des Moines & Downtown Buildings
Downtown Des Moines, the East Village and converted loft buildings in Cedar Rapids have freight elevators booked in fixed blocks and require a certificate of insurance naming the building. Send the requirements with your estimate request.

How an Interstate Move Works
- Step 1
Survey
An in-home or virtual walkthrough of every room, closet, garage and attic, so the estimate is built on your actual inventory.
- Step 2
Written Estimate
You receive the expected charges in writing, with packing, materials, access and any shuttle itemized rather than added later.
- Step 3
Schedule Locked
On approval we reserve the crew and equipment, confirm your delivery window and start on any condo or HOA paperwork.
- Step 4
Pack & Load
Everything is padded, inventoried and tagged. You get a copy of the inventory before the trailer leaves.
- Step 5
Delivery in Iowa
We check the shipment in against that same inventory, place furniture in the rooms you designate and reassemble what we took apart.

Texas to Iowa Moving FAQ
How much does it cost to move from Texas to Iowa?
An interstate move from Texas to Iowa is priced on the weight or volume of your shipment plus the mileage, not by the hour. The main variables are the size of your shipment, which Texas city you leave from, packing, and access at both ends including gravel farm approaches and older homes with narrow stairs. Condor provides a written estimate before your shipment is loaded.
How long does a move from Texas to Iowa take?
Dallas–Fort Worth to Des Moines is about 730 miles and Houston about 980. Cedar Rapids and Iowa City add roughly 110 miles. Interstate moves are scheduled with a delivery spread rather than a single guaranteed date, and winter can widen that window. Your estimate states the window for your route.
Can you move to Iowa in winter?
Yes, with planning. From November through March the state sees deep cold, heavy snow and ice that close I-35 and I-80 at short notice, and walkways need clearing before a crew can carry safely. Conditions are monitored ahead of your date and a shipment in transit is held rather than run into a closure.
Can you deliver to a farm or acreage in Iowa?
Yes. Much of Iowa delivery is outside town limits where the final approach is gravel with no room to turn a trailer, and spring thaw softens some of those roads. Access is reviewed when the move is quoted, and where a loaded truck cannot safely reach the house we shuttle in with a smaller vehicle.
Which Iowa cities does Condor deliver to?
Condor delivers throughout Iowa, including Des Moines, West Des Moines, Ankeny, Urbandale, Clive, Waukee, Johnston, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Coralville, Davenport, Bettendorf, Ames, Waterloo, Cedar Falls, Dubuque, Sioux City and Council Bluffs.
Is Condor Moving Systems licensed for interstate moves?
Yes. Condor Moving Systems operates under USDOT 1126171 and MC 458180 for interstate moves and TxDMV 006041428C within Texas. Interstate household moves are regulated by the FMCSA, and Condor provides the federal Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move booklet with interstate estimates.
What if my Iowa home is not ready when my shipment arrives?
Condor offers storage in transit for gaps between move-out and move-in. Your goods stay inventoried so the same shipment is redelivered without a second full pack. Tell your moving consultant if your closing or lease date is uncertain so the schedule is built with that in mind.
