Worth being clear about one thing, though: when a household goods shipment is government-funded, the transportation service provider is assigned to you through the Department of Defense moving program rather than chosen by you. What you can choose directly is a personally procured move, a partial PPM, or any move you are arranging yourself — and that is where most of our military work sits. Your installation transportation office can confirm which applies before you book anything.

What a Military Move Costs
The cost of hiring movers in Texas depends primarily on home size, crew size, distance, access and whether you need packing or specialty services. Local moves are generally billed hourly, while long-distance moves are priced based on the details of the shipment and destination.
Local Moving Rates
How the 4-hour minimum works: every local move is billed at a 4-hour minimum — 3 hours of labor plus a 1-hour trip charge that covers driving to your origin and back from your destination. There is no separate fuel surcharge. A 3-mover crew at the 4-hour minimum comes to $796. Time beyond the minimum is billed at the same hourly rate. Your written estimate shows the applicable rate and expected charges before moving day.

What Makes a Military Move Different
Moving in Texas presents logistical challenges that aren't always obvious when requesting a quote. Building restrictions, truck access, traffic, weather and distance from the truck to your door can all affect moving time. Here's what we consider when planning a Texas move.
Base Access Takes Advance Notice
Every installation controls who comes through the gate. Crew identification, vehicle details, and in many cases an escort or visitor pass all have to be arranged before the date. Sorting this at the gate on moving morning costs hours, so the installation and sponsor details belong on the estimate request.
Weight Tickets for PPM Claims
A personally procured move is reimbursed on certified empty and loaded weight tickets from a public scale. No tickets, no claim. We weigh before loading and again after, and you receive both along with the inventory.
Report Dates Do Not Move
Orders set the date and the date sets everything else. On a long-distance PCS the delivery spread has to be planned around the report date rather than hoped at, which is why booking early matters more on military work than on almost anything else.
Short-Notice Changes
Orders change, dates slip, assignments get amended. We would rather rebuild a schedule than have you lose a slot, and storage in transit covers the gap when a new date cannot be reached directly.
On-Post Housing & Privatized Communities
On-post and privatized housing communities set their own move-in windows, require notice and sometimes restrict truck size on internal roads. Those rules come from the housing office rather than the installation, so send both sets of requirements.
Deployments & Unaccompanied Tours
Where only part of the household travels, the rest needs somewhere to go. Storage is inventoried and palletized so it can be released in stages or held until you return, rather than packed again from scratch.

Can Condor handle a government-funded PCS move?

What is a PPM and can you help with one?
A personally procured move, formerly called a DITY, is where you arrange your own move and claim reimbursement from the government rather than having a shipment assigned. Condor is a licensed carrier that can perform a PPM, and we provide the documentation the claim needs, including certified weight tickets. Reimbursement rules and rates are set by the military, so confirm the current terms with your transportation office.
Do you provide certified weight tickets?
Yes. Certified empty and loaded weight tickets from a public scale are what a PPM reimbursement claim is built on, and a claim without them generally will not be paid. We weigh before loading and again after, and you receive both tickets along with your inventory and paperwork.
Can you deliver onto a Texas military installation?
Yes. Deliveries onto Fort Cavazos, Joint Base San Antonio, Fort Bliss, Dyess, Sheppard, Goodfellow, Laughlin, NAS Corpus Christi and NAS Fort Worth JRB need gate access arranged ahead of time — crew identification, vehicle details and in some cases an escort or visitor pass. Give us the installation and your sponsor information when you request your estimate so access is cleared before moving day rather than at the gate.
My orders changed and my date moved. What happens?
Tell us as soon as you know. Short-notice changes are normal on this work and we would rather rebuild the schedule than have you lose a date entirely. Where the new date cannot be covered, storage in transit bridges the gap so your household is not sitting in a driveway while orders settle.
Can you store our household goods during a deployment or unaccompanied tour?
Yes. Condor offers short and long-term storage, which is common for unaccompanied tours, deployments and overseas assignments where only part of the household travels. Goods are inventoried and palletized so the same shipment is released when you need it.

Yes. Condor Moving Systems operates under USDOT 1126171, MC 458180 and TxDMV 006041428C. Condor is a direct mover rather than a broker, so your move is handled by our own crews and equipment rather than sold on to another company.
