Texas to New Jersey Movers

Texas to New Jersey Movers

New Jersey packs a lot into a small state: Hudson River high-rises with a view of Manhattan, older towns with narrow streets, horse country, Shore houses and suburbs that look to Philadelphia. Condor Moving Systems has moved Texans since 2003 from our Fort Worth and Houston locations, and we do it with Condor trucks driven by Condor crews. For New Jersey, that means a binding estimate priced by the cubic foot, a guaranteed pickup date and delivery within 1–10 business days.

Punctual, good and professional. Condor Moving System is my go-to moving guys now. Fairly priced for the level of professional moving service they provide to their customers. They were very good in communication to me and among themselves. I have had many bad experiences with multiple movers before it. Condor is the first ever company that I found nobody to complain about, which is maybe a pretty rare thing to say about relocators.

Movers did a great moving job even though it was a not smooth and it's a very long job. Best value for the money we spend. They stayed professional and were kind throughout the move process. They recognized my items and if I needed to change the things, they did it for me rapidly. Very friendly teamwork. Will surly use them again!

These movers did a best job even though it was a tough and time taking job. Best value for the money it cost. Stayed professional and were helpful throughout the day of move. Honored my goods and if I required things changed they did it for me in little time. Very coordinated teamwork. Will definitely use them again for coming movers!

Where in New Jersey Are You Going?

The Hudson waterfront

Jersey City, Hoboken, Weehawken and Edgewater are mostly apartments and condos, many in towers with doormen, loading docks and freight elevators. Buildings usually ask for a certificate of insurance and a reserved elevator time. Parking is the other challenge, covered below.

North Jersey suburbs

Bergen, Essex, Morris, Passaic and Union counties include towns such as Montclair, Ridgewood, Maplewood, Morristown and Summit. Expect older homes with steep driveways, front steps and tree-lined streets where a large truck has to be positioned carefully.

Central Jersey

Princeton, New Brunswick, the Route 1 corridor and Somerset County towns like Bridgewater and Basking Ridge mix newer subdivisions with older town centers. Many newer developments have HOAs with moving-hour rules.

The Shore

Monmouth and Ocean counties, from Red Bank and Asbury Park down to Toms River and Long Beach Island, get crowded from Memorial Day to Labor Day. A summer move into a Shore town needs early planning for parking and traffic.

South Jersey

Cherry Hill, Haddonfield, Moorestown and Voorhees sit across the Delaware River from Philadelphia. Atlantic City and Cape May County are further south on the Atlantic City Expressway and the Garden State Parkway.

Delivery Timing

New Jersey deliveries are scheduled within 1–10 business days, counted from the first day you can receive the shipment.

  • Your pickup date is guaranteed.
  • A guaranteed delivery date is available for an additional charge.
  • Next-day delivery is offered only on a dedicated truck for destinations within about an 8-hour drive. New Jersey is more than a day's drive from Texas, so it isn't available on this route.

Road Rules That Shape a New Jersey Delivery

No big trucks on the northern Garden State Parkway

Trucks are prohibited on the Garden State Parkway north of Exit 105 in Tinton Falls. Our drivers use the New Jersey Turnpike, I-287, I-78, I-80 and other truck routes, so the route to a North Jersey town may not match the route a map app suggests for a car.

Getting there from Texas

From Dallas and Fort Worth the usual route runs I-30 to Little Rock, I-40 to Knoxville, then I-81 north through Virginia into Pennsylvania and I-78 east to the Lehigh Valley and New Jersey. South Jersey moves may instead come up I-95 or the Turnpike from the Delaware Memorial Bridge. Houston loads often begin on I-10 and I-12 before turning north on I-59.

Rounded, from OpenStreetMap routing between city centers, without stops. Trucks run slower than cars and follow federal hours-of-service limits.

Hoboken and Jersey City Curb Space

Hoboken reserves curb space for moves through Temporary No-Parking signs. Residential moving signs have to be purchased 10 days ahead and are posted seven days before your date. Each sign covers about 15 feet, and a moving truck needs at least two, so order enough. Jersey City and other Hudson County towns have their own rules; check with the city or your building manager once you have your date and forward what they tell you to your consultant.

On narrow, double-parked blocks, the crew may need extra time for the walk between the truck and your door. Where a full-size semi can't get access, a smaller shuttle truck brings your things to the door. Shuttle service is charged in addition to your estimate and starts at $450.

Weather, Seasons and the Calendar

  • Nor'easters. From late fall through early spring, coastal storms can bring heavy snow inland and flooding along the Shore and the Meadowlands. Leave a cushion day if you're moving in winter.
  • Summer Shore traffic. Friday afternoons and Sunday evenings on the Parkway and Route 37 are slow from June through August.
  • College move-ins. Rutgers in New Brunswick, Princeton, Stevens in Hoboken, Montclair State and Rowan in Glassboro all bring late-August and early-September traffic to their towns.
  • School year. Families with kids often target late June through mid-August so children start the school year in their new district, which makes those weeks busy.

Military Moves

New Jersey's installations include Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in Burlington and Ocean counties, Picatinny Arsenal in Morris County and Naval Weapons Station Earle in Monmouth County. Base deliveries need gate access arranged with crew names, IDs and truck details. Weight tickets are required only on military moves; if your military move needs them, we can provide them. Our military work includes PPM moves (you set up the move and are reimbursed by the government), retiree moves and shipments arranged by the government.

Your Estimate, Explained

How it's priced

Long-distance moves are priced by cubic footage alone. The per-cubic-foot rate already includes the trip from Texas to New Jersey, so there's no separate distance charge. Condor's long-distance moves start at $1,200, and a full household to New Jersey will run higher, based on your inventory.

Binding estimates only

Your estimate is binding. If your list changes before the truck is loaded, the foreman writes up the revision and you approve it first.

Main cost factors

  • Cubic feet of furniture and cartons
  • Packing add-on and materials
  • Stairs, elevators and long carries
  • Crating for art, mirrors or stone tabletops
  • Pianos, safes and fitness equipment
  • Storage in transit
  • A guaranteed delivery date

Keeping it down

  • Downsizing for a Hudson County apartment? Sell or donate the extras before your survey.
  • Do some or all of your own packing.
  • Pick a fall or spring date instead of the summer rush.

Three Ways to Get Your Quote

  • Zoom video survey, our most popular option. You show a consultant your home over video and we build the inventory together.
  • Phone quote, if you can tell us accurately what furniture is going and roughly how many boxes. For a binding phone quote with no video or in-person survey, you sign a written waiver of the survey.
  • In-person survey, available only in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Get a head start with our moving inventory.

Every Move Includes

Our crews disassemble basic furniture before loading and put it back together at your New Jersey address. That's standard on every move. Each piece is padded, tagged with a number and listed on an inventory you sign at pickup and again at delivery. Furniture and boxes go into the rooms you choose, and one consultant stays on your move from survey to delivery.

Coverage starts with released value protection, the federal minimum, at no added cost. It pays 60 cents per pound per article and is moving coverage, not insurance. Full value replacement is available through Baker International; Condor doesn't sell it in-house. Look over the coverage options before your move.

Packing is an add-on, never included. Choose a full pack, or a partial pack for just the rooms you want help with: dishes and glassware, clothing, holiday decorations, garage shelves and attic storage.

Federal Rules and Claims

A move from Texas to New Jersey is interstate, so it's regulated by the FMCSA. Condor holds USDOT 1126171 and MC-458180, and you'll receive the federal booklet Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move. If anything is lost or damaged, you have 9 months from delivery to file a written claim, and we help you with it after the move. Go to file a claim.

Before packing, check the non-allowables list; propane tanks, paint and ammunition can't go on the truck.

New Jersey Paperwork

New residents have 60 days, or until the out-of-state license or registration expires if that's sooner, to transfer a driver license and title and register a vehicle with the New Jersey MVC. Both can be handled at one out-of-state transfer appointment.

We load anywhere in Texas, including Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, Houston, San Antonio and smaller towns statewide.

We deliver throughout New Jersey: Jersey City, Hoboken, Weehawken, Newark, Montclair, Ridgewood, Paramus, Hackensack, Morristown, Summit, Princeton, New Brunswick, Edison, Bridgewater, Red Bank, Toms River, Cherry Hill, Haddonfield, Moorestown and Atlantic City.

From a Texas Slab to a New Jersey Basement

Most Texas houses are built on a slab with everything on one or two floors. Many New Jersey homes, especially older ones in North and Central Jersey, have a basement, a finished attic and narrower stairways. That changes how a delivery goes.

  • Basement furniture. If a sectional, a pool table or a home gym is going downstairs, measure the basement stairs and the turn at the bottom. Older stairways often have low headroom.
  • Attic and third-floor rooms. Cape Cods and older colonials can have steep, narrow stairs to the top floor. Tell us which pieces go up there during the survey.
  • Front steps and walkways. Many homes sit above the street with a flight of steps from the sidewalk. We plan the crew size around that carry.
  • Driveways. Shared driveways and single-lane drives are common in older towns. Let us know if the truck will need to stay on the street.

Moving into a Hudson County tower

  1. Ask management for the move-in packet and the certificate of insurance sample.
  2. Book the freight elevator and loading dock, usually on a weekday.
  3. Order Temporary No-Parking signs if the building has no dock (in Hoboken, 10 days ahead).
  4. Send the COI sample and your elevator time to your consultant.
  5. On delivery day, meet the crew in the lobby with your keys and the building contact's phone number.

Moving to the Shore

Shore towns get crowded from Memorial Day through Labor Day, with parking on narrow streets and heavy weekend traffic. Some homes are raised on pilings after past storms, adding a long flight of stairs. Off-season moves, from October through April, are usually easier, but watch for nor'easters.

What to keep with you

Carry documents, medication, laptops, jewelry and a few days of clothes in your car. Pack a first-night box with bedding, towels, a few dishes and a phone charger, and mark it so the crew loads it last.

1–10 business days, counted from the first day you're ready to receive it. A guaranteed delivery date is available for an additional charge.

Can a moving truck use the Garden State Parkway?

Not north of Exit 105. Our drivers route on the Turnpike and other truck routes instead.

Hoboken uses Temporary No-Parking signs. Residential moving signs are bought 10 days ahead and posted seven days before your date, and a truck needs at least two.

The price is set by the cubic feet of your shipment. The per-cubic-foot rate includes the trip, and there's no separate distance line on the estimate.

Is packing included?

No. Packing is an add-on, full or partial. Furniture disassembly and reassembly is included on every move.

How long do I have to get a New Jersey license?

60 days after becoming a resident, or sooner if your Texas license expires first.
