Irving was founded in 1903, took its name from the writer Washington Irving, and was incorporated in 1914. It now stretches from the Trinity River levees to the edge of DFW Airport, and part of the airport sits inside the city limits. The 2020 census counted 256,684 residents, and the Census Bureau's July 2024 estimate was 258,060, which makes Irving one of the twelve largest cities in Texas. Punctual, good and professional. Condor Moving System is my go-to moving guys now. Fairly priced for the level of professional moving service they provide to their customers. They were very good in communication to me and among themselves. I have had many bad experiences with multiple movers before it. Condor is the first ever company that I found nobody to complain about, which is maybe a pretty rare thing to say about relocators.Thomas C Davison
Movers did a great moving job even though it was a not smooth and it's a very long job. Best value for the money we spend. They stayed professional and were kind throughout the move process. They recognized my items and if I needed to change the things, they did it for me rapidly. Very friendly teamwork. Will surly use them again!Denis Tanney
These movers did a best job even though it was a tough and time taking job. Best value for the money it cost. Stayed professional and were helpful throughout the day of move. Honored my goods and if I required things changed they did it for me in little time. Very coordinated teamwork. Will definitely use them again for coming movers!Marks Josephine
Local movers in Irving, TX: hourly rates and a binding estimate
A local Irving move is billed at $175 an hour for two movers and a truck. Each job carries a four-hour minimum, which is labor plus a trip charge for the drive out from Fort Worth. Irving sits about 27 to 31 miles from our yard, so the trip charge here can be more than one hour, and your estimate spells it out. Before move day you receive a binding estimate in writing that names the crew size, the truck and the total. On the day, the foreman tours the rooms with you first. Anything added since the walkthrough goes onto a rewritten estimate that you sign before the first box leaves. In Irving the biggest swings in a total come from freight-elevator waits in the towers, long hallways in garden-style complexes, and how much is still not boxed when the crew walks in.
Las Colinas: towers, canals and Lake Carolyn
Las Colinas began as a family ranch and was laid out from 1972 as one of the first master-planned communities in the country, covering more than 12,000 acres. Today its Urban Center wraps around Lake Carolyn and the Mandalay Canal, with mid-rise and high-rise apartments stacked above shops and offices. A tower move goes smoothly when these three things are settled early:
- A freight elevator slot at the building you leave and the one you move into, booked for the same window the crew arrives.
- The loading dock or garage rules, including truck height limits for covered parking and which entrance the concierge wants us to use.
- The certificate of insurance the management office asks for. Send us its wording and we'll email the COI before move day.
Away from the lake, Las Colinas also has single-family neighborhoods such as Hackberry Creek, Cottonwood Valley and University Hills, and some of its golf-course communities are gated. Send the gate code or guard contact a few days out. If a narrow drive means our 26-foot box truck can't reach the door, the survey will catch it and we'll price a smaller shuttle truck before you book.
Valley Ranch and north Irving
Valley Ranch was a working cattle ranch until development took off after I-635 was built along its southern edge. It is best known as the Dallas Cowboys' headquarters and practice site from 1985 until the team moved to Frisco in 2016. The neighborhood is threaded with more than five miles of canal walkways and is run by the Valley Ranch Association, so check its rules on moving trucks and parking before you set a date. Children here attend Coppell ISD or Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD rather than Irving ISD, which matters if you're moving within Irving for a particular school.
Central and south Irving
South of SH 183 are the older parts of the city: the original downtown around the Downtown Irving/Heritage Crossing rail station, and established neighborhoods that filled in during the 1960s, when Irving's population roughly doubled in ten years. Irving ISD serves most of this area. On older blocks, tell us whether a truck can park at the curb or whether we should plan a longer carry to the door. In apartment communities along the Airport Freeway near Irving Mall, reserve a parking spot near your stairwell with the leasing office, and try for a mid-month date if your lease lets you.
Moving services in Irving, TX: packing, disassembly and storage
Our moving services in Irving go past loading and driving. Taking apart and reassembling bed frames, dining tables and similar furniture is included at no extra cost, though we leave particleboard and flat-pack pieces assembled. Packing is optional and priced separately, from the whole home to a few rooms or just the kitchen, and the choices are on our packing and crating page. If your new lease starts after your old one ends, we can keep your things in our Fort Worth warehouse, billed monthly. Our moving and storage page explains how it works.
Corporate relocation in Irving and office moves
Las Colinas is home to more than 2,000 companies, and firms such as McKesson, Caterpillar, Kimberly-Clark and Vistra keep their headquarters in Irving, so employee transfers in and out of the city are routine. For corporate relocation in Irving, we bill employers and relocation management companies directly, so the person transferring doesn't pay up front. We move offices on evenings and weekends for an extra charge, and we tell you that charge when you book. The office movers and corporate relocation pages show how we plan a commercial move or a group of household moves. Our guide to choosing trustworthy movers in Irving covers what to ask before you sign with anyone.
Moving out of state from Irving
Condor holds its own interstate operating authority. The crew that packs the truck at your Irving address drives it and unloads it at your new home, and no broker sells your job to another company. Four things set an interstate move apart:
- Volume, not hours. A move to another state is priced on the cubic feet you ship. Prices start at $1,200, there is a 200 cubic foot minimum, and the binding estimate comes from a room-by-room inventory.
- Hourly inside Texas. Moving from Irving to Houston, Austin or San Antonio stays on the hourly rate, with a binding estimate.
- A delivery spread. Because one trailer can carry more than one household, your estimate gives a range of delivery dates. If your new home isn't ready, we can put the shipment in storage in transit.
- Lanes with their own pages. Irving families often head to Texas to Illinois, Texas to New York, Texas to North Carolina or Texas to Oklahoma. The full list is on our long-distance movers page.
Every interstate move runs under USDOT 1126171 and MC-458180, and the federal Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move booklet comes with your estimate.
The drive from our Fort Worth yard to Irving
Trucks leave 4009 E Loop 820 S, Fort Worth, TX 76119, go north on Loop 820 and then east on SH 121/183, the Airport Freeway, into Irving. With clear roads, typical drive times are:
- Central Irving (City Hall): about 27 miles, 35 minutes
- Las Colinas Urban Center: about 29 miles, 40 minutes
- Valley Ranch: about 31 miles, 42 minutes
The Airport Freeway, SH 114 and the Bush Turnpike (SH 161) slow down sharply at rush hour, and concerts at the Toyota Music Factory or big events at the Irving Convention Center fill the roads around Las Colinas. We look at those calendars when we set your start time.
