Texas to Tennessee Movers
Tennessee's own law splits the state into three Grand Divisions, and they really do feel like three different moves. West Tennessee centers on Memphis and the Mississippi River. Middle Tennessee is Nashville and its fast-growing ring of suburbs. East Tennessee runs from Chattanooga through Knoxville into the Smoky Mountains and sets its clocks an hour ahead. Condor Moving Systems has moved Texans to all three since 2003, with our own trucks and crews, from our Fort Worth and Houston locations.

West, Middle or East Tennessee
West Tennessee: Memphis and the river
Memphis, Germantown, Collierville, Bartlett and Arlington. This is the closest part of Tennessee to Texas. Trucks arrive over the Mississippi River on the I-40 Hernando de Soto Bridge or the I-55 bridge from West Memphis, Arkansas. Germantown and Collierville are leafy suburbs with large lots; midtown Memphis has older homes with narrow driveways and alley garages.
Middle Tennessee: Nashville and its suburbs
Nashville, Franklin, Brentwood, Murfreesboro, Mount Juliet, Hendersonville, Spring Hill and Clarksville. Much of what we deliver here goes to two kinds of addresses: newer subdivisions with HOA rules, and downtown or Gulch condo towers that require booked freight elevator times and a certificate of insurance from the mover. Send us the building's rules early so the time slot is set before the truck leaves Texas.
East Tennessee: Knoxville, Chattanooga and the mountains
Knoxville, Maryville, Oak Ridge, Chattanooga, the Tri-Cities and Sevier County. East Tennessee is on Eastern Time, an hour ahead of Texas. Cabins near Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Wears Valley are often reached by steep, narrow, switchback roads that a full trailer can't climb. A smaller shuttle truck handles those. Shuttle service is charged in addition to your estimate and starts at $450.
The Route: I-40 Most of the Way
From Dallas–Fort Worth, the usual path is I-30 northeast to Little Rock, then I-40 east across Arkansas to Memphis. I-40 keeps going east through Jackson, Nashville and Knoxville, so most Tennessee deliveries never leave it for long. Chattanooga moves leave I-40 at Nashville for I-24 southeast, or come up I-59 from Birmingham.
From Houston, trucks typically head north toward Texarkana and join I-30 and I-40, or go east on I-10 and north through Mississippi on I-55 to Memphis.

How Long Delivery Takes
Your Tennessee shipment is delivered within 1 to 10 business days, counted from the first day you can receive it. We guarantee your pickup date. If you need a set arrival date, a guaranteed delivery date can be added for an additional charge.
Next-day delivery is only offered within an 8-hour drive. Memphis is the closest Tennessee city, and our routing check puts it just under 8 hours from Dallas even before a loaded truck's slower pace. That's too close to promise, so Tennessee moves use the standard window.
Pricing a Move to Tennessee
We price Tennessee moves by the cubic foot, so you pay for the space your belongings take on the truck. The cubic-foot rate for your route already includes the drive, and you won't find distance listed as its own charge. Long-distance moves start at $1,200.
Your estimate reflects:
- The cubic feet of everything going to Tennessee
- Any packing you add (full or partial)
- Crating for glass, art, mirrors or stone
- Pianos, safes and other heavy items
- Freight elevators, stairs or a long carry
- A shuttle truck for mountain or tight-street addresses (charged in addition to your estimate, from $450)
- Storage in transit
- A guaranteed delivery date, if you choose one
Binding, and in writing. The estimate we give you is binding for the inventory on it. If you add items before loading, the foreman revises the estimate in writing and gets your approval first.
Pick how you'd like to be quoted:
- Zoom video survey. The one most customers choose.
- Phone. If you can give an accurate item list and box count. For a binding phone quote with no video or in-person survey, you sign a written waiver of the survey.
- In-person survey. Available only in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
What Comes With the Move
- A consultant from first call through final delivery
- Basic disassembly and reassembly of standard furniture
- Pads wrapped around every furniture piece
- Numbered tags and a signed inventory at loading and delivery
- Placement of furniture and boxes in your chosen rooms
- A guaranteed pickup date
- Released value protection, the federal minimum, at no charge
- Claims support after the move (file a claim)
Packing is an add-on and never part of the base price. Our crew can pack the boxes for your kitchen, closets, decorations, garage and attic, either the whole home or a few rooms.
Reviews From Our Customers
Punctual, good and professional. Condor Moving System is my go-to moving guys now. Fairly priced for the level of professional moving service they provide to their customers. They were very good in communication to me and among themselves. I have had many bad experiences with multiple movers before it. Condor is the first ever company that I found nobody to complain about, which is maybe a pretty rare thing to say about relocators.Thomas C Davison
Movers did a great moving job even though it was a not smooth and it's a very long job. Best value for the money we spend. They stayed professional and were kind throughout the move process. They recognized my items and if I needed to change the things, they did it for me rapidly. Very friendly teamwork. Will surly use them again!Denis Tanney
These movers did a best job even though it was a tough and time taking job. Best value for the money it cost. Stayed professional and were helpful throughout the day of move. Honored my goods and if I required things changed they did it for me in little time. Very coordinated teamwork. Will definitely use them again for coming movers!Marks Josephine
Tennessee Weather and Terrain
Spring storms. Middle and West Tennessee see tornado warnings from March into May, and Nashville has been hit more than once in recent years. We stop work while a warning is active.
Winter ice and mountain snow. Ice can glaze I-40 between Memphis and Nashville, and snow closes mountain roads in East Tennessee more often than the interstates. Keep a fallback date for a December-to-February move.
Hills and ridges. Middle Tennessee is rolling country, and many Franklin, Brentwood and Nashville homes sit on sloped lots with long driveways. East Tennessee adds steep ridges and narrow county roads.
Lakes, Ridges and Older Neighborhoods
Lake homes around Nashville
Percy Priest Lake and Old Hickory Lake bring lakefront and lake-view homes into the Nashville moving mix, in places like Hermitage, Mount Juliet, Hendersonville and Gallatin. Many sit on sloped lots with the garage at street level and the living space a floor below. Photos of the driveway and the stairs help us size the crew.
Chattanooga's mountains
Lookout Mountain, Signal Mountain and Missionary Ridge rise right out of Chattanooga, and the roads up them are steep and winding. Some can't take a full trailer. Tell us early if you're moving to the mountain so we can plan the approach.
Midtown Memphis and Cooper-Young
Older Memphis neighborhoods have early 1900s houses with front porches, narrow driveways and garages off the alley. The truck may need to park on the street, which makes the carry longer. A photo of the front of the house tells us a lot.
Williamson and Rutherford County subdivisions
Franklin, Brentwood, Spring Hill, Nolensville, Murfreesboro and Smyrna keep adding subdivisions. HOA move-in rules are common here: where trucks can park, what hours they can work, and sometimes advance notice to the management company.
Fort Campbell, Arnold AFB and NSA Mid-South
- Fort Campbell, home of the 101st Airborne Division, straddles the Kentucky line next to Clarksville
- Arnold Air Force Base, near Tullahoma, a major Air Force test center
- Naval Support Activity Mid-South, in Millington north of Memphis
We set up gate access ahead of time with crew names, IDs and truck information. Weight tickets are part of a move only when it's a military move; if yours needs them, we can provide them. Condor handles PPM moves, where the service member arranges the move and the government reimburses it, along with retiree moves and government-arranged shipments.
Universities and Move-In Weeks
Vanderbilt and Belmont in Nashville, the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Middle Tennessee State in Murfreesboro, the University of Memphis and Tennessee Tech in Cookeville all move in during August. Knoxville is especially busy on fall Saturdays when Neyland Stadium fills, so we keep campus-area deliveries off game days when we can.

Moving to Tennessee: Your Questions
Can my things arrive in Memphis the next day?
No. Our routing check puts Memphis close to 8 hours from Dallas, and a loaded truck takes longer, so it falls outside our next-day limit. Expect 1 to 10 business days, or add a guaranteed delivery date for an extra charge.
Is a move to Knoxville priced higher than one to Memphis?
Each route has its own cubic-foot rate, and that rate includes the drive. Your shipment's size usually affects the total more than the destination. Long-distance moves start at $1,200.
Will my delivery time be in Central or Eastern Time?
It depends where you're going. Memphis, Nashville and Clarksville are Central, like Texas. Knoxville, Chattanooga and the Tri-Cities are Eastern. We confirm your appointment in local time.
Can you deliver to a downtown Nashville condo?
Yes. Send us the building's move-in rules as early as you can. Most towers want a reserved freight elevator time and a certificate of insurance from the mover, and we plan the delivery around that slot. Send us a sample certificate from your building, and we'll provide a COI that matches it.
Do household shipments go over a truck scale?
No. We price by cubic feet. Weight tickets are only for military moves, and we provide them when a military move calls for them.
Our Franklin closing date moved. What happens to our furniture?
We can hold it in storage in transit and deliver once the house is ready, working from the same tagged inventory. Storage in transit is held in Texas, at our Fort Worth or Houston location. The first 30 days are free; after that, it's billed monthly.
What protection do I have against damage?
Released value protection is included on every move at no extra charge. It's the carrier's basic liability under federal rules, 60 cents per pound per article, and it's moving coverage, not insurance. Full value replacement, which covers repair, replacement or a cash settlement, is available through Baker International; Condor doesn't sell full value protection itself. You have nine months after delivery to file a written claim, and our team will help.
Does someone need to come to my house for a quote?
No. Most customers do a Zoom video survey. A phone quote works if you can give us an accurate list and box count.
