Texas to Kentucky Movers
Kentucky is a two-time-zone state, and the line between them runs almost down the middle. Paducah, Bowling Green and Hopkinsville keep Central Time like Texas; Louisville, Lexington and Northern Kentucky are on Eastern. That's a good clue to how different the regions are. Condor Moving Systems has moved Texas households into every part of Kentucky since 2003, from our locations in Fort Worth and Houston, on our own trucks with our own crews.

How the Truck Gets There
From Dallas–Fort Worth, trucks take I-30 to Little Rock and I-40 east across Arkansas and into Tennessee. For Western Kentucky, they turn north toward Paducah through west Tennessee. For the rest of the state, they stay on I-40 to Nashville and take I-65 north to Bowling Green, Elizabethtown and Louisville. Lexington is an hour east of Louisville on I-64. Northern Kentucky comes in on I-71 or I-75.
From Houston, the route usually runs north to Texarkana and joins the same I-30 and I-40 path.
Louisville's toll bridges. The I-65 bridges and the Lewis and Clark Bridge across the Ohio River are tolled through RiverLink. A delivery inside Kentucky doesn't need to cross them, but if you'll commute to southern Indiana, set up a RiverLink account; drivers without one pay a higher rate.

Delivery Dates
Kentucky deliveries arrive within 1 to 10 business days, starting from the first day you can accept the shipment. Your pickup date is guaranteed, and a guaranteed delivery date is available for an additional charge.
Next-day delivery is reserved for destinations within an 8-hour drive. All of Kentucky is beyond that from Texas, so every Kentucky move uses the standard window.
What You'll Pay and Why
Kentucky moves, like all our long-distance moves, are priced by cubic feet, the space your household takes on the truck. Your route's cubic-foot rate already includes the drive; there is no separate charge for distance. Long-distance moves start at $1,200.
Line items that can change the price:
- Total cubic feet
- Packing by our crew, if you add it (full house or partial)
- Crating for art, glass, mirrors and antiques
- Pianos, safes and other heavy pieces
- Stairs, a hillside lot or a long carry
- A shuttle truck when a trailer can't get to the door (charged in addition to your estimate, from $450)
- Storage in transit
- A guaranteed delivery date
Binding estimates only. We write a binding estimate before loading, and the price holds for the listed inventory. If you add belongings, the foreman updates the estimate in writing and you approve the change before loading.
Choosing how to get quoted: most customers set up a Zoom video survey and walk us through the house on a phone. A phone quote is an option if you can give an accurate list of items and a box count. For a binding phone quote with no video or in-person survey, you sign a written waiver of the survey. In-person surveys are available only in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Included on Your Kentucky Move
- A consultant who handles your move from the first call to the last box
- Basic disassembly and reassembly of standard furniture
- Pads on every piece of furniture
- Numbered tags and an inventory you sign at each end
- Placement of furniture and boxes in the rooms you choose
- A guaranteed pickup date
- Released value protection, the federal minimum, at no charge
- Help filing a claim after delivery (claims)
Packing isn't part of the base move. If you want our crew to pack dishes, clothes, decorations, garage or attic boxes, it's an add-on, priced as a full pack or a partial pack.
Customer Reviews
Punctual, good and professional. Condor Moving System is my go-to moving guys now. Fairly priced for the level of professional moving service they provide to their customers. They were very good in communication to me and among themselves. I have had many bad experiences with multiple movers before it. Condor is the first ever company that I found nobody to complain about, which is maybe a pretty rare thing to say about relocators.Thomas C Davison
Movers did a great moving job even though it was a not smooth and it's a very long job. Best value for the money we spend. They stayed professional and were kind throughout the move process. They recognized my items and if I needed to change the things, they did it for me rapidly. Very friendly teamwork. Will surly use them again!Denis Tanney
These movers did a best job even though it was a tough and time taking job. Best value for the money it cost. Stayed professional and were helpful throughout the day of move. Honored my goods and if I required things changed they did it for me in little time. Very coordinated teamwork. Will definitely use them again for coming movers!Marks Josephine
Homes, Hills and Horse Country
Older Louisville neighborhoods. Old Louisville, the Highlands and Crescent Hill have Victorian and early 1900s homes with tall front steps, narrow side yards and on-street parking only. We plan the carry from wherever the truck can stop.
Bluegrass farms. Horse farms around Lexington, Versailles and Paris often have long, gated drives and narrow bridges. Let us know the gate code and whether a full trailer can turn around.
Eastern Kentucky. Many homes are reached by narrow county roads up hollows, sometimes with low bridges or tight curves. Where a full trailer can't reach the house, a smaller shuttle truck finishes the trip. Shuttle service is charged in addition to your estimate and starts at $450.
Northern Kentucky. Hillside lots in Fort Mitchell, Fort Thomas and Covington mean steep driveways and stairs.
Lake Country and Western Kentucky
Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley, the two reservoirs on either side of Land Between the Lakes, draw retirees and second-home owners to Murray, Cadiz and the lake communities around them. Lake homes there often sit down a steep drive with stairs to the main floor. Paducah, the region's largest city, has a mix of older homes near downtown and newer subdivisions on the west side.
Bowling Green's Growth
Bowling Green has grown with Western Kentucky University and a long list of manufacturing employers, so a lot of moves there go to new subdivisions with HOA rules. Ask your HOA about truck parking and work hours before move-in, and pass the answers to your consultant.
What to Keep With You on the Drive
Because Kentucky's registration deadline is short, keep these in your car rather than on the truck:
- Your vehicle title (or lienholder details) and current Texas registration
- Proof of insurance
- Your Texas driver's license and documents proving your Kentucky address, such as a lease or closing papers
With those in hand, you can schedule the sheriff's VIN inspection and visit the county clerk soon after you arrive.
Kentucky Weather
- Spring and late-fall storms. Western Kentucky in particular sees tornado warnings in spring and again in November and December. We stop work while a warning is active.
- Winter. Snow and ice reach the whole state, and eastern Kentucky's mountain roads close more often than the interstates.
- Flooding. Heavy rain can flood creeks and low roads in eastern Kentucky quickly. If your destination is in a flood-prone hollow, keep a backup date.
Derby Week in Louisville
The Kentucky Derby runs at Churchill Downs on the first Saturday in May, and the week leading up to it fills Louisville's hotels and slows traffic around the track and downtown. If your Louisville move falls near Derby week, ask us about shifting the delivery a few days.
Fort Knox and Fort Campbell
- Fort Knox, near Radcliff and Elizabethtown, home to Army Human Resources Command and Army Cadet Command
- Fort Campbell, on the Kentucky–Tennessee line near Hopkinsville and Oak Grove, home of the 101st Airborne Division
Base access is set up ahead of time with crew names, IDs and truck details. Weight tickets only matter for military moves; if your military move needs them, we can provide them. Our military work includes PPM moves (you set up the move and are reimbursed by the government), retiree moves and shipments arranged by the government.
Kentucky College Towns
The University of Kentucky in Lexington, the University of Louisville, Western Kentucky in Bowling Green, Eastern Kentucky in Richmond, Murray State and Northern Kentucky University all move students in during August. Apartments near campus usually require reserved move-in times.
Your First Weeks as a Kentucky Resident
- Vehicle registration comes first. Kentucky gives new residents 15 days to register a vehicle brought from another state. Go to the county clerk in your county of residence with your Texas title, proof of Kentucky insurance and a sheriff's VIN inspection.
- Driver's license: apply for a Kentucky license within 30 days of establishing residency. A valid Texas license generally means no driving test.

Kentucky Moving FAQ
How long will my move to Kentucky take?
Plan on 1 to 10 business days from your first available delivery day. If you need a fixed date, you can add a guaranteed delivery date for an extra charge.
Will my delivery be on Central or Eastern Time?
Western and south-central Kentucky (Paducah, Bowling Green, Hopkinsville) are Central. Louisville, Lexington, Elizabethtown and Northern Kentucky are Eastern. We confirm your appointment in local time.
How do you price a Kentucky move?
By cubic feet, with the drive included in your route's rate. Long-distance moves start at $1,200, and your binding estimate is in writing before we load.
Does the truck stop at a scale?
No. We price by cubic feet. Weight tickets are part of military moves only, and we provide them when a military move needs them.
Can you get onto a horse farm with a long gated drive?
Usually. Tell us about the gate, any bridges and the turnaround space, or show us on the Zoom survey.
Our Lexington house won't be ready for two weeks. What happens to our things?
We can keep them in storage in transit and deliver once you're ready, from the same tagged inventory. Storage in transit is held in Texas, at our Fort Worth or Houston location. The first 30 days are free; after that, it's billed monthly.
What if something is damaged?
Released value protection is included on every move at no extra charge. It's the carrier's basic liability under federal rules, 60 cents per pound per article, and it's moving coverage, not insurance. Full value replacement, which covers repair, replacement or a cash settlement, is available through Baker International; Condor doesn't sell full value protection itself. You have nine months after delivery to file a written claim, and we'll help you through it.
Can you quote my move without visiting?
Yes. A Zoom video survey is the most popular way. If you can list your furniture and boxes accurately, we can quote by phone.
