Best Affordable Neighborhoods in Dallas

If you’re moving to Texas and have your eye on the Dallas metro area, you may be overwhelmed by the sheer number of neighborhoods you have to choose from. Dallas isn’t too pricey for such a huge city, but it is a bit more expensive than the rest of the state, so one way to narrow your search is by looking at cost of living, particularly home prices and rent costs. Below are some of the best affordable neighborhoods in Dallas, with some handy home price data.

Lake Highlands

Median Home Price: $266,181

Average Monthly Rent: $881 (1 bedroom), $1,075 (2 bedroom)

A large collection of subdivisions in Northwest Dallas near the Garland and Richardson suburbs, Lake Highlands features a low cost of living, a well-rated school system (the Richardson district) and a low crime rate. One natural highlight that attracts visitors is Lewisville Lake, created in the 1920s and later expanded. It was developed as a reservoir but is now the site of many recreational activities such as boating, fishing, and swimming. The lake now has six marinas and three restaurants.
