Dallas Movers

Dallas is home turf for us. Condor Moving Systems has moved Texans since 2003 from our Fort Worth location, about 30 miles west on I-30, and our own trucks and crews work Dallas neighborhoods and suburbs every week. Moving across town? You pay by the hour, on an estimate that's binding. Moving to Houston, Austin or anywhere else in Texas? That's hourly too. Moving out of state? You pay by the cubic foot, and that number is in writing before the truck is loaded.

Punctual, good and professional. Condor Moving System is my go-to moving guys now. Fairly priced for the level of professional moving service they provide to their customers. They were very good in communication to me and among themselves. I have had many bad experiences with multiple movers before it. Condor is the first ever company that I found nobody to complain about, which is maybe a pretty rare thing to say about relocators.

Movers did a great moving job even though it was a not smooth and it's a very long job. Best value for the money we spend. They stayed professional and were kind throughout the move process. They recognized my items and if I needed to change the things, they did it for me rapidly. Very friendly teamwork. Will surly use them again!

These movers did a best job even though it was a tough and time taking job. Best value for the money it cost. Stayed professional and were helpful throughout the day of move. Honored my goods and if I required things changed they did it for me in little time. Very coordinated teamwork. Will definitely use them again for coming movers!

Hourly Local Moves in Dallas

Type of estimateBinding (not-to-exceed on request)
Comes withTruck, crew, pads, basic take-apart and put-back-together of furniture

Add a room or drop a sofa before load time, and the foreman updates the estimate on paper for your signature before the crew lifts anything. Minimums and fine print live on the Texas local movers page. For outer suburbs such as Frisco, McKinney and Rockwall, the trip charge may be more than 1 hour, depending on the distance from our location.

Moves between Dallas and Fort Worth, Arlington or anywhere else in the Metroplex are local DFW moves. See also our Fort Worth movers and Arlington movers pages.

Keep your hourly move short

  • Finish packing and taping boxes the night before
  • Reserve the freight elevator from the moment the crew is due, not an hour later
  • Move your own cars out of the driveway so the truck can back in
  • Point out fragile or high-value pieces at the start so the crew wraps them first

Dallas Housing, Neighborhood by Neighborhood

Uptown, Downtown, Victory Park and the Design District

Apartment and condo towers here nearly always want a certificate of insurance, a booked freight elevator and a dock time, and many set weekday move hours. Forward the building's rules and we'll issue the COI ahead of time.

Highland Park and University Park

The Park Cities are separate towns with their own parking rules. In Highland Park, a moving truck can park in a resident-only zone for up to two hours while loading or unloading household goods. Large homes with long front walks, tight side yards and detached garages are common, so we plan the crew for carry distance.

East Dallas: M Streets, Lakewood and Lower Greenville

Many older homes here load from the back, off a narrow alley shared with neighbors' garages and trash carts. Fences, low wires and parked cars can block an alley, so we look at access before moving day and decide whether the truck stands in the alley or out front. In-state we run 26-foot box trucks, and local moves usually have no shuttle charge unless it's truly impossible to get the 26-foot truck to your door.

Preston Hollow and North Dallas

Estates on big lots, gated drives and long driveways. Tell us about gate codes, guard houses and any HOA or service-entrance rules.

Oak Cliff, Bishop Arts and Kessler Park

Some of the few real hills in Dallas, with steep streets near Kessler Park and older homes with long front steps.

Lake Highlands, White Rock and Casa Linda

Ranch houses and two-stories on established streets, with alleys in many blocks.

Deep Ellum and the Cedars

Converted lofts with freight elevators, older brick buildings and limited street parking, especially on weekend nights.

The suburbs

Plano, Frisco, McKinney, Allen, Prosper, Richardson, Garland, Rowlett, Rockwall, Mesquite, Irving, Las Colinas, Coppell, Carrollton, Farmers Branch, Addison and Grand Prairie. Most newer neighborhoods north of LBJ and along the Sam Rayburn Tollway have HOAs; some restrict truck parking overnight or require notice. Ask yours.

Getting Around Dallas

  • Tollways. The Dallas North Tollway, the President George Bush Turnpike and the Sam Rayburn Tollway (SH-121) are cashless NTTA roads. A TollTag or compatible tag avoids mailed bills.
  • LBJ (I-635). The TEXpress managed lanes run alongside the main lanes; congestion near US-75 and I-35E is heavy at rush hour.
  • Central Expressway (US-75). The main north-south route from downtown to Richardson, Plano and Allen.
  • I-35E and I-30. I-35E runs past the Medical District and Love Field toward Denton; I-30 is our direct route between Fort Worth and Dallas.

A local move from Frisco to Oak Cliff can spend a big part of an hour on the road at rush hour, so we time it when we can.

Storms, Ice and Heat

Spring severe weather. North Texas gets frequent hail and occasional tornadoes, usually March through June. An EF-3 tornado tore through North Dallas on October 20, 2019, so storms aren't strictly a spring event. We don't load or unload under a warning.

Winter ice. Ice storms and hard freezes, like the February 2021 winter storm, can shut down roads for days. If ice is in the forecast, we'll talk with you about shifting the date.

Summer heat. Highs top 100°F in many summers. An early start helps, and heat-sensitive items such as candles, vinyl and electronics are packed and loaded with care.

The Dallas Moving Calendar

  • State Fair of Texas. Late September through October at Fair Park brings heavy traffic and closures in South Dallas and along I-30 east of downtown.
  • College move-ins. SMU in University Park, UT Dallas in Richardson and the University of North Texas at Dallas move students in during August.
  • Summer. Dallas ISD, Plano ISD and most area districts start classes in mid-August, so June and July fill up with families.
  • The 30th and the 1st. Lease turnover makes the last weekend of any month the hardest to book; mid-month dates are easier to get.

Leaving Dallas: Moves Across Texas and Out of State

Moves that stay in Texas, including Dallas to Houston, Austin or San Antonio, are billed by the hour like a local move: from $175 per hour with a 4-hour minimum, on a binding estimate. Once you're leaving Texas, the hourly clock no longer applies. We charge by how many cubic feet your belongings fill, and that rate already covers the road between here and there; you won't find a distance line. Out-of-state moves start at $1,200. The estimate is binding, and when a relocation policy calls for a not-to-exceed figure, we write one.

Car drive times between downtowns, rounded, using OpenStreetMap routes and no breaks. A moving truck is slower.

Next day, on a dedicated truck: we can do it when the drive is under roughly 8 hours. Out of Dallas, that puts Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Shreveport, Little Rock, Lubbock, Houston, Austin and San Antonio in range.

Farther away: expect 1–10 business days to most of the country. Allow 1–21 business days for the Bay Area, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, the Dakotas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Upstate New York and New England. The count begins on the first day you're ready to take delivery. We lock in your pickup day at no charge; locking in the delivery day costs extra.

How to Get Your Quote

  1. Zoom walkthrough. Most Dallas customers pick this: prop up your phone, show us each room and closet, and we build the list live.
  2. By phone. Fine when you know exactly what furniture is going and about how many boxes. For a binding phone quote with no video or in-person survey, you sign a written waiver of the survey.
  3. In person. A Condor surveyor visits your home. In-home surveys are available across Dallas-Fort Worth.

Included With Every Dallas Move

Whether it's Lakewood to Lake Highlands or Plano to Phoenix, our crew takes apart beds, tables and other basic furniture and puts them back together at the other end; that's never an upcharge. Every piece is wrapped in pads and set where you want it, and a single consultant is your contact the whole way. Out-of-state shipments are tagged and listed on an inventory you sign. The baseline coverage, released value protection, costs nothing extra. It's our basic liability as your carrier under federal rules, 60 cents per pound per article, and it's moving coverage, not insurance. If you want full value replacement, you can buy it through Baker International; we don't sell it ourselves. The coverage choices page explains both.

Packing costs extra, every time. Hand us the whole house, or just the kitchen, closets, holiday bins, garage and attic. Prefer to do it yourself? Cartons and kits are sold in our store.

Licenses, Military Moves and Claims

Texas moves, across town or across the state, fall under TxDMV registration 006041428C. Leave Texas and federal FMCSA rules apply; our numbers are USDOT 1126171 and MC-458180, and before your interstate move you'll receive the booklet Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move. Service members: we handle PPM moves, retiree moves and government-arranged shipments, and when your orders call for weight tickets, we supply them; no other move needs them. And if something arrives broken or goes missing, our team works the claim with you afterward. Begin here: file a claim.

Dallas-Area Communities We Serve

Dallas, Highland Park, University Park, Preston Hollow, Lake Highlands, Oak Cliff, Plano, Frisco, McKinney, Allen, Prosper, Celina, Richardson, Garland, Rowlett, Rockwall, Mesquite, Irving, Coppell, Carrollton, Farmers Branch, Addison, Grand Prairie, Lewisville, Flower Mound, DeSoto, Cedar Hill and Duncanville.

Dallas to Fort Worth, and Everywhere Between

A good share of our Dallas work is moves inside the Metroplex: Dallas to Fort Worth, Plano to Arlington, Irving to Southlake. They're local moves, billed hourly, and the trip between the two cities is part of why the minimum includes a trip charge.

Picking a route. I-30 is the most direct link between downtown Dallas and downtown Fort Worth. I-20 serves the southern suburbs like Grand Prairie, Mansfield and Cedar Hill, and SH-114 and SH-183 connect Irving and Las Colinas with Grapevine, Southlake and Hurst-Euless-Bedford. We choose the road based on time of day.

What changes between the two cities. Fort Worth neighborhoods like Fairmount, Arlington Heights and Ryan Place have older homes, alleys and big trees, much like East Dallas. Newer areas in north Fort Worth, Keller and Haslet mirror Frisco and Prosper, with HOAs and wide streets.

Moving for work. Corporate relocations bring many households to Plano's Legacy area, Las Colinas, Uptown and the Alliance corridor. If your employer needs a not-to-exceed estimate, ask for it with your quote.

Selling one house and buying another in DFW

When both closings fall on one date, timing gets tight. Talk with your consultant before you pick the dates; loading the day before the sale closes, or holding your belongings in storage until the purchase funds, are the usual ways to make it work. We can also keep your loaded truck overnight and deliver the next morning, for an extra overnight fee.

Moving an office in Dallas

Office buildings in Uptown, the Arts District, Las Colinas and the Legacy area usually require a COI and a freight elevator booking, and many restrict moves to evenings or weekends. We can schedule office moves on evenings and weekends when needed; after-hours and weekend work carries an extra charge, which we disclose when you book. See office moves.

Dallas Moving FAQ

What's the hourly rate for movers in Dallas?

It starts at $175 an hour. The smallest job we book is 4 hours, which is a 1-hour trip charge and 3 hours on the clock for labor, and the estimate is binding.

You're in Fort Worth. Do you charge extra to come to Dallas?

The 1-hour trip charge is part of the 4-hour minimum, and Dallas is part of our home DFW service area. For outer suburbs like Frisco, McKinney and Rockwall, the trip charge may be more than 1 hour, depending on distance.

Can you load from the alley behind my M Streets house?

Often, yes. We check the alley first; if it's blocked or too narrow, the truck stands out front and the crew carries.

My Uptown building asked for a COI. Is that a problem?

Not at all. Email us the management office's sample certificate, and it will be on file with them days before the crew shows up.

How is a move from Dallas to Atlanta priced?

By the cubic feet of your shipment. The rate already includes the trip, and long-distance moves start at $1,200.

Is a Dallas to Houston move priced by the cubic foot?

No. Moves within Texas are hourly, like a local move, from $175 per hour with a 4-hour minimum. Cubic-foot pricing applies only to moves out of state.

Could my things arrive in Oklahoma City or Houston the morning after pickup?

Yes, on a dedicated truck. We offer next-day when the drive is inside about 8 hours, and both of those cities are.

Does the $175 rate include packing?

No. Packing is quoted separately as an add-on. Taking furniture apart and reassembling it is part of the base move.

Do you put the truck on a scale?

Not for civilian moves. Pricing goes by cubic feet; scale tickets only come into play on military moves that require them.
