Texas to New Mexico Movers
Moving from Texas to New Mexico takes you west, uphill and back an hour on the clock. Albuquerque sits more than a mile above sea level, Santa Fe is close to 7,000 feet, and the whole state runs on Mountain Time. Three Ways West
How your truck gets to New Mexico depends on where you're going.
Albuquerque, Santa Fe and the north. From Dallas–Fort Worth, the route runs northwest on US-287 through Wichita Falls and Childress to Amarillo, then west on I-40 past Tucumcari and Clines Corners. Santa Fe deliveries leave I-40 for US-285 or continue to Albuquerque and come up I-25.
Las Cruces and the south. Trucks follow I-20 west across West Texas to I-10, pass through El Paso and reach Las Cruces about 45 minutes later. This is also the route for White Sands Missile Range and, by way of US-70, Alamogordo and Holloman AFB.
The Permian Basin and the east side. Hobbs, Carlsbad, Lovington and Artesia are reached through Midland–Odessa or Lubbock. Clovis and Portales come in through Lubbock on US-84.
Is Next-Day Delivery Possible?
Next-day delivery on a dedicated truck applies when the drive is inside 8 hours. For New Mexico, that's Hobbs from Fort Worth. Clovis, Portales and Carlsbad come in between 7 and 8 hours from Fort Worth in our routing check, before allowing for a loaded truck, so they don't make the cut. Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Las Cruces are about 11 hours or more.
For everywhere else in New Mexico, delivery takes 1 to 10 business days from the first day you can accept your shipment. We guarantee your pickup date, and you can add a guaranteed delivery date for an additional charge.

Pricing for New Mexico Moves
Long-distance moves at Condor are priced by cubic feet, meaning the space your furniture and boxes take on the truck. For New Mexico, the rate for your route already includes the drive west, so there's no extra charge for distance on the estimate. Long-distance moves start at $1,200.
What moves the total up or down:
- Cubic feet of everything you're bringing
- Packing (whole home or selected rooms), if you add it
- Crates for art, pottery, mirrors and glass
- Pianos, safes and big gym equipment
- Stairs, tight historic doorways or a long carry
- A shuttle truck when a trailer can't reach the house (charged in addition to your estimate, from $450)
- Storage in transit
- A guaranteed delivery date or a dedicated next-day truck
The price is binding. Before we load, you'll have a written, binding estimate for the items listed. If the inventory changes, the foreman writes the revision up and you approve it before loading.
Quote options, in order of how often customers pick them:
- Zoom video survey from your phone
- Phone quote, if you can give an accurate item list and box count (for a binding phone quote with no survey, you sign a written waiver of the survey)
- In-person survey, available only in the Dallas-Fort Worth area
What's Included
- A consultant who stays with your New Mexico move from the first call through delivery
- Basic disassembly of standard furniture at pickup and reassembly at delivery
- Blanket padding on every piece of furniture
- Numbered tags and an inventory you sign in Texas and again in New Mexico
- Placement of furniture and boxes in the rooms you choose
- A guaranteed pickup date
- Released value protection, the federal minimum, at no cost
- Support with any claim after delivery (claim form)
Packing is never included in the base move. When you want us to pack boxes of dishes, clothes, decorations, garage items or attic storage, we add it to your estimate as a full or partial pack.
Reviews
Punctual, good and professional. Condor Moving System is my go-to moving guys now. Fairly priced for the level of professional moving service they provide to their customers. They were very good in communication to me and among themselves. I have had many bad experiences with multiple movers before it. Condor is the first ever company that I found nobody to complain about, which is maybe a pretty rare thing to say about relocators.Thomas C Davison
Movers did a great moving job even though it was a not smooth and it's a very long job. Best value for the money we spend. They stayed professional and were kind throughout the move process. They recognized my items and if I needed to change the things, they did it for me rapidly. Very friendly teamwork. Will surly use them again!Denis Tanney
These movers did a best job even though it was a tough and time taking job. Best value for the money it cost. Stayed professional and were helpful throughout the day of move. Honored my goods and if I required things changed they did it for me in little time. Very coordinated teamwork. Will definitely use them again for coming movers!Marks Josephine
Living at Altitude: Homes, Weather and Roads
Adobe, pueblo-style and older homes
Santa Fe, Taos and older Albuquerque neighborhoods have adobe and pueblo-revival houses with thick walls, deep-set doorways and low beams. A sectional or a tall armoire that fits a Texas living room may not turn the corner. Measure doorways before your survey, or show them to us on the Zoom call.
Narrow streets and long dirt roads
Streets near the Santa Fe Plaza and Canyon Road are narrow and short on parking. Outside town, many homes in places like Placitas, Corrales, the East Mountains and around Taos sit on unpaved roads. Send us a map pin or photos of the drive. If a full trailer can't reach the house, a smaller shuttle truck finishes the trip. Shuttle service is charged in addition to your estimate and starts at $450.
Wind, monsoon and snow
- Spring wind, roughly March through May, can be strong enough on I-40 and the eastern plains to slow or stop high-profile trucks.
- Monsoon storms arrive in July and run into September, with afternoon downpours and flash flooding in arroyos.
- Winter snow is common at Santa Fe, Los Alamos and Taos elevations, and I-40 through Tijeras Canyon east of Albuquerque can close during storms.
We'll talk through weather with you if your dates fall in any of those windows.
Mountain Time
New Mexico is one hour behind Dallas, Houston and Austin. Your delivery appointment is set in local Mountain Time; El Paso shares that time zone with New Mexico.
Balloon Fiesta week
The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta takes over early October, and traffic around the north side of town near Balloon Fiesta Park is heavy at dawn and dusk all week. If you're delivering to the North Valley or the Northeast Heights that week, we'll plan around it.
Southern New Mexico and the Permian Basin
Las Cruces and Mesilla
Las Cruces is New Mexico's second-largest city and sits in the Mesilla Valley along the Rio Grande, about 45 minutes from El Paso. Neighborhoods range from new subdivisions on the East Mesa to older adobe homes near Old Mesilla's plaza, where streets are narrow and parking is limited. Many Las Cruces residents commute to El Paso, so we see plenty of moves in both directions across the state line.
Hobbs, Carlsbad and the oil patch
Hobbs, Lovington, Carlsbad and Artesia sit in the New Mexico side of the Permian Basin, and many of our moves there are tied to oil and gas jobs. Housing is a mix of established neighborhoods, newer subdivisions and rural properties on caliche roads. If your new place is out on a lease road or a ranch property, photos of the drive help us plan.
Roswell and the Pecos Valley
Roswell is the largest city in southeastern New Mexico and the home of New Mexico Military Institute. It's a longer haul than Hobbs, about 9 hours from Fort Worth in our routing check, so Roswell moves use the standard delivery window.
Kirtland, Holloman, Cannon and White Sands
- Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, which also hosts Sandia National Laboratories
- Holloman Air Force Base near Alamogordo
- Cannon Air Force Base west of Clovis
- White Sands Missile Range between Las Cruces and Alamogordo
Each one needs gate access arranged in advance: crew names, IDs and truck information. Weight tickets are part of a move only on military moves, and we can provide them when your military move needs them. Civilian New Mexico moves aren't weighed. We handle PPM moves (you arrange the move and the government reimburses you), retiree moves and government-arranged shipments.
Los Alamos National Laboratory also brings a steady stream of moves into Los Alamos and White Rock. Those addresses are reached by NM-502 up the mesa, so plan for mountain road time.
UNM, NMSU and Eastern New Mexico
The University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico State in Las Cruces and Eastern New Mexico University in Portales start fall classes in mid to late August. Student apartments near campus turn over in the weeks before, and many complexes require reserved move-in times.
After You Arrive: New Mexico MVD
- Title and register any vehicle you bring from Texas within 30 days to avoid late penalties.
- Every vehicle coming from another state needs a VIN inspection. Call your local Motor Vehicle Division field office first; availability varies.
- Apply for a New Mexico driver's license once you're a resident. A current Texas license usually means no written or road test, just a vision check.

New Mexico Moving FAQ
Can you deliver to Albuquerque the next day?
No. Albuquerque is about 11 hours from Fort Worth in our routing check, well past the 8-hour limit for next-day delivery. Plan on 1 to 10 business days, or add a guaranteed delivery date for an extra charge. Hobbs is the one New Mexico city we can reach next day, from Fort Worth.
Is a move to Farmington more expensive than a move to Clovis?
Each route has its own cubic-foot rate, and that rate includes the drive. There's no separate distance line. The size of your shipment is usually the bigger factor. Long-distance moves start at $1,200.
Will my oversized sectional fit through an adobe doorway?
Sometimes not. Measure the doorways or show them on the Zoom survey, and we'll note what needs to come apart or go in through another door.
Do my belongings go over a truck scale?
No. Household moves are priced by cubic feet. Weight tickets come up only on military moves, and we provide them when one needs them.
What should I do about the time zone change?
Nothing special. We'll schedule delivery in Mountain Time and confirm it with you ahead of the day.
My Las Cruces rental won't be ready for a week. Can you store my things?
Yes. Storage in transit holds your tagged shipment until you're ready. Storage in transit is held in Texas, at our Fort Worth or Houston location. The first 30 days are free; after that, it's billed monthly.
What happens if something breaks?
Released value protection is included on every move at no extra charge. It's the carrier's basic liability under federal rules, 60 cents per pound per article, and it's moving coverage, not insurance. Full value replacement, which covers repair, replacement or a cash settlement, is available through Baker International; Condor doesn't sell full value protection itself. You have nine months after delivery to file a written claim, and we'll help you with it.
Do I need someone to visit my home for a quote?
No. A Zoom video survey is the most popular option. If you can give us a precise item list and box count, a phone quote works too.
